March 13, 200620 yr If spring training continues to play anywhere near the way it is, there is no reason whatsoever to rush Sanchez or Petit for that matter. Send them down to the Southern League and pitch for a few months. Come August they'll be ready when we need them.

Come August they'll be ready when we need them. ya, I'd really much prefer to have Sanchez as a starter than a reliever. agree on Petit as well. I'd like to see him get some AA and maybe even some AAA starts before we see him about mid to late season.
March 13, 200620 yr It's really not as bad as it sounds if Sanchez is in the pen. This guy might be better off as a closer than as a starter, and we ave an excess of potential starting candidates. Putting him in the pen will let more of our oung arms get major league experience, and if he is healthy enough he will be ready to start if we need him to, assuming he is not our closer. The reason I believe he can be our closer is because Joe Borowski has been the most hittable pitcher I have ever seen the last two years and Bowyer doesn't appear to have the control he needs.

Face facts -- this team WILL BE HORRENDOUS this year and so the only point is to play for the future. If you can get equal value in a trade, fine, but if Olsen's an A- prospect, you don't trade him for a C- prospect when you have no realistic short term goals!

You may be right about the value of Olsen compared to Gathwright, and the fact that we won't really compete this year with Gathwright. The thing is, Gathwright could be a guy who could be a great leadoff hitter for this team for years, and no I don't need to see any stats that show your opinion otherwise. All I've ever heard from AL managers and reporters is that this guy is excitement when playing and can do the same things for us that Pierre did. We have to make an effort to be the best we can desptie circumstances, and the truth is that none of our CF options are as ready to start as Gathwright and that we have a massive excess of pitching talent. A lot of good it will do to have top prospects in AAA for years, just like Gathwright might be with the Rays without a trade
