Posted March 18, 200619 yr Been to a few ST games (next on Tuesday vs. Dodgers.) Most impressed by Wes Helms and Matt Cerpicky. Helms is very smoothe, wherever he plays. Guess I have over-anticipated Mike Jacobs. But, it's early. If this was Opening Day I would have Helms at first. Cerpicky is a frustrating decision. Looks good defensively but not much offensively. But, watch him at the plate. He is intimidating as hell. This lefty twirls his bat in his right hand menancingly as the pitcher settles. God, he looks like a ball-player! Looking forward to seeing Anibal Sanchez. Not surprised to see Matt Herges is doing well and being respected. He was (for at least one season) an excellent closer. And good to see MaverickBall back on line.
March 18, 200619 yr Cool first post but I believe his name is Matt Cepicky. He played for Washington last year. I have been impressed that Andino is competing pretty well for the shortstop/2nd base job as poorly as he played last year and the fact that he seemed to have a bad work ethic/attitude.
March 18, 200619 yr Great first post. I've been to about 5 or 6 Spring Training games (I still have about 3 games to go) and I agree that Cepicky looks pretty good. Also Han Ram, it seems like whenever he is batting he always gets on base.
March 18, 200619 yr Author HollyBerry, Wow this is a fun ST! HanRam has SS. Andino's best asset is that he is 2 (?) years younger. Those of us ignorant wonder why he isn't being worked at 2B, even if it means sending him to AAA. (Persoanlly, I would give him to Perry Hill for 3 weeks at 2B.) Realistically, the issue is the starting rotation. My confidence in Moehler and Vargas are diminishing. Maybe today I will get envigorated. For sure, we have the right Manager. And the best HollyBerry.
March 18, 200619 yr Thanks. We have so many talented starting pitchers this season. It is going to be exciting to see who makes the rotation. I thought I would share these pictures I took from ST. I am not sure if you have seen them before. http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...showtopic=57410

Not sure how that is happening, considering Jason Vargas has a 1.64era in 11 innings and Big Moe has a 0.00era in 8 innings... hopefully a few more starts will give you more confidence in them

I don't have a problem with the Marlins fielding a steady rotation with Willis, Vargas, Moehler, then splitting up starts with Mitre, Johnson, Olsen, Nolasco, and Petit. We have a lot of talent here. It will have growing pains, but this is one of the least areas of concern on the ball club. 2B, CF, RP, 1B (Jacobs is scaring me a little), and wherever Hammer doesn't play is what I'm concerned about. Especially those first three.
March 18, 200619 yr Do not return to this message board until you have taken four (4) months of intense grammar/spelling classes at your local community college. Completely unacceptable and unforgivable. Welcome! :mischief

He gets compared to Pettitte by his coach, what could be better than that when you have only been out of college for a year?
March 18, 200619 yr Welcome to the board Senior! Girardi will a have more than a few tough choices as spring training winds down. I'm guessing today's starting line-up could well be what we end up seeing on opening day (with the D-Train starting of course).

I'm not giving up on him but I reaffirm my "confidence is diminishing."
