September 10, 200322 yr Spoony had tommy-john surgery today. He's out all of next season and half of 2005. that $(&*&% :boo-woo :crying
September 10, 200322 yr should of had the surgery months ago. would of gotten him back possibly to start 2005.
September 10, 200322 yr The recovery time for Tommy John surgery is generally 12-18 months. Even it took the whole 18 months, that would be March of 2005, so he should definitely be back by 2005. Thats really got to be tough for a young player to know that he wont be playing at all the next season when this season isnt even over.
September 10, 200322 yr Hey, I wonder what McKeon has to say about the injury now... I think questioning Spoony was Jack's biggest mistake as a manager, though I guess that issue's long been buried...
September 10, 200322 yr i thought when sponey saw tha doctor before they didnt find anything? howcome now they find and before they didnt? i dont get it?
September 10, 200322 yr I dont know, maybe it is just me. But it seems quite often when a player goes out to visit Dr. Andrews, they are going to come away with TJ surgery. I agree, Das, this should have been done over a month ago.
September 10, 200322 yr should of had the surgery months ago. would of gotten him back possibly to start 2005. I agree. I said several times herein a month ago that I would not be surprised if Spooney could not come back this Season. I based that on the things Spooney was saying about his progress. Why did it take so long for his prognosis? Terrible incompetence on the part of someone in the (medical?) chain of command.
September 10, 200322 yr The whole Dr. Andrews thing has me confused. Didn't AJ visit him a couple of times before he finally was fully diagnosed and put under the knife? How come Dr. Andrews didn't identify Spooney's problem earlier on? It seems like he has been wasting time "resting." What gives?
September 10, 200322 yr Malman, I agree. "What gives?" A.J.'s prognosis was dragged out (it seems, but I'm not a doctor). Just reading what Spooney said over a month ago, two things were evident. Either Spooney was lying and wanted to take the rest of the Season off, or the Doctor's were screwing up!
September 10, 200322 yr Terrible incompetence on the part of someone in the (medical?) chain of command. I don't know about that. Dr. Andrews did a couple of MRI's and couldn't find anything. So I guess you must be calling Andrews incompetent. The only way they found this was to scope the elbow. I can see them not wanting to scope it until all other avenues were exhausted because scoping the elbow would've probably ended Spooneybarger's season right there, even if they didn't find much of anything. It would've been nice if they had done all this two months ago but I don't know that would've mattered too much on timing. Right now it's 19 months to the start of the 2005 season so even if recovery takes the high side of the normal 12-18 month recovery, it still has him back to start 2005. If it had been done earlier, maybe he could've come back late next year to test out the elbow a little but they seemed to want to go with the least invasive process possible. It was wrong in this case but I can't blame them too much on the philosophy.
September 10, 200322 yr Dr James Andrews is the best in the biz.... if at first he couldnt find anything, i trust him good luck Spooney, wish you well
September 10, 200322 yr Maybe THATS why the Braves were so ready to give him up....maybe the attitude problems were all a facade.
September 10, 200322 yr Spooney has been hurt since May! If he would have had surgery then, his recovery time would be 4 months quicker.
