Good News as it looks like Beinfest and Company will be locked up long term.

Beinfest, other top brass to get extended deals

HOUSTON ? The Marlins may be playing elsewhere by 2010, but they'll have the same architects.

As early as today the team will announce it has extended the contracts of General Manager Admin Beinfest and assistant GM Michael Hill through the 2010 season. Vice president of player personnel Dan Jennings and vice president of player development and scouting Jim Fleming also had their deals extended.

Beinfest and Fleming both worked for Jeffrey Loria when he owned the Expos. Loria brought them south when he purchased the Marlins in February 2002. Jennings left his front-office post with the Devil Rays midway through 2002 to join the Marlins. Hill came on board from the Rockies two months later.

This group assembled the 2003 World Series champions. Loria is hoping it laid the foundation for a future title run with the prospects accumulated through the offseason's high-profile trades.

Entering his fifth season as Marlins GM, Beinfest's name surfaced as a possible candidate for the Dodgers' GM post after they fired Paul DePodesta in October. The new deal should take Beinfest out of a possible GM search in Washington if Jeff Smulyan's ownership group buys the Nationals. Smulyan and Beinfest know each other from the Mariners organization and some have speculated about a possible reunion with the Nationals.

The contract extensions also help explain why Cincinnati native Michael Hill didn't take up the Reds' offer to interview for their vacant GM job earlier this year. The Marlins denied the Reds permission to speak with Jennings, probably because his new contract was in the works as well.

Good.

Now if they could only dump the higher ups.....

Good on Hill, boo on Beinfest.

What have you got against Beinfest?

For real?? He has done nothing but good for us...
