April 14, 200620 yr No Sampson today it seems since hank is gone with ESPN. Instead they have Admin Beinfest taking all questions. I only got to hear a few on the way to work. One was a call about stokes when he talked about how he feels he is a rusty and needs ABs. But he had an amazing spring. Anyone got it on and able to listen?
April 14, 200620 yr Samson chickened out it seems. What a piece of garbage that midget is....I can't stand him.
April 14, 200620 yr Only caught the back end of the show... I'll try to post a few of the Q & A's. Beinfest is a stand-up guy. Always liked him. This is the guy who should be promoting the team instead of Samson. Roxy Bernstein is doing the show this morning, good choice! Lots of praise for Beinfest from most of the callers. People appreciate the job he's done here. :thumbup (and I'm paraphrasing here obviously) Q: Question on your trading philosophy. If you're trading a player, would you take less talent in return to get him out of the division as opposed to trading him within the division? A: We're not as comfortable dealing within the division, would prefer not to, but we'll do it if they have the players we want in return (as we showed with the Mets). Q: Miguel's production seems to have tapered off a little around August of last year, any thoughts on him this season? A: I didn't notice any slump. I think he's pretty comfortable, might see him trying a little too much this year but I think he'll be fine. Talked about Jacobs & Willingham hitting behind him. I think there's one more segment coming up... Blah blah blah talking about how the Nationals are talented... Q: Firesale seems to put black cloud over the franchise. If Willis & Cabs have great years they're set to make a bundle. If we lose them it'll be devastating. A: Not really a subject for today. Enjoy the championships and look forward to the next one. People were very upset after '02 when we lost Cliff Floyd, Dempster, Clement, Alfonseca, and look what happened. Dontrelle & Miguel are not on the brink of free agency, it's a little different from other situations lately. We'll tackle those issues as they arise. Q: Some idiot asking what's to stop Cabrera from saying "I don't feel I'm making the money I should, I'm not playing another game until I do." A: You saw it with Alfonso Soriano. But this isn't an issue with Miguel. He knows how the system works. Mature enough to handle situations. He's a professional, he has good representation.
April 14, 200620 yr Meh. Nevermind. commercial break It just seemed kinda long. So I wondered. Hanley = For Real :thumbup
April 14, 200620 yr anymore updates would be appreciated Nothing is going on. Just cheering (Commercial) and talk about bands (music). This is very random. I was looking up some stuff about Uggla and one of the links brought me to this picture. :lol
April 14, 200620 yr Why do I just hear cheering? I've always thought that sounded like a massacre was occuring.

I would feel more comfortable hearing that "Cab and Willis are the face of this franchise they won't be leaving if we can prevent it." Or something along those lines. Beinfest is one of the best, unheralded GM's in the league. What he's done w/ such limited resources is incredible. Article from Joe Buck 10/2004: Admin Beinfest, Florida ? He did it again. Last year Florida GM Admin Beinfest made a flurry of mid-season trades that not only improved his own club, but also demoralized his closest competitor: the Philadelphia Phillies. Things are a bit different this season ? the Marlins have a legitimate shot at vaulting past Atlanta for the division lead?and their wild-card competition may come from outside their division ? but Beinfest has once again helped his team immensely. Beinfest upgraded his bullpen and beefed up his lineup with the acquisitions of Guillermo Mota, Paul Lo Duca and Juan Encarnacion. And what?s more, while he was adding all these pieces ? without giving up much, mind you ? two of his competitors, the Braves and Phillies, did virtually nothing. I say Beinfest did the best job (again) of any Major League GM?I give him an A.
April 14, 200620 yr I thought Roxy was pretty good in this role. Beinfest definitely always sounds better than Samson. I really wanted to hear "no, we are NOT trading Dontrelle" but I knew that wasn't gonna happen. They were getting a lot of calls so I don't buy it when these radio hosts say they don't talk as much about the Marlins because there isn't enough interest.

Hosting shows on KNBR and along the Cal Radio Network comes in handy.

What's it matter if he said that? I think he answered the question perfectly. And the "tackle those issues as they arrise" comment that you disliked was pretty much the same as what you wished he would of said. Things happen, cant say they'll be here forever and ever, then people are all mad when they go. Cant say they'll be traded ASAP because Loria would not live through the night, and Beinfest would have his genitals removed with a rusty knife by fans angered at the trades. And someone would get Sampson just for the heck of it, toss him out of bed in his footie pajamas and tickle him to death. Your way to negative man.
April 14, 200620 yr Yep, you're right. I'm too negative by saying Beinfest is one of the best GM's in the league and just asking for an ounce of certainty from by stating that Cab and Willis are the future face of our organization. :confused
