Of course Heat fans are going to say Wade, and of course I am going to say Kobe. Give me either and I am happy. Same age, ya. Obviously at this point in their careers, you would want Wade.

April 15, 200620 yr I don't know why Lefty keeps acting like Kobe is in the twilight of his career or something right now, that's a foolish assumption and point to make.

Lefty you are right, Wade puts up better numbers % wise then Kobe was. However if I am starting an expansion team, and I can have 1 player in the league I am taking Kobe. He can carry a team by himself farther then Wade could ever dream of, and quite frankly this isn't even an argument until Wade gets at least one ring on his finger. Wade has never even been to an NBA Finals, much less won a championship. And don't go blah blah what has Kobe ever won without Shaq. Wade in his rookie season without Shaq: Made the second round of the playoffs, almost made it to the eastern conference finals against a tough Indiana Pacers team. Kobe's first year without Shaq: Didn't make the playoffs. Wade's rookie year's team made the second round of the playoffs but they grabbed a 4 seed by going .500! Wade has a much higher FG %, averages more steals, blocks, assists and rebounds.... Come on now, guys... If you play with Shaq your numbers are higher. Well maybe not for blocks, but certainly you can't compare Wade's shooting to Kobe's when Kobe is needed to score every trip down. And it's true that Wade doesn't need to shoot three pointers as much as most of the league's big time scorers but it is also apparent that his shot is no where near their level etiher.
April 15, 200620 yr Shaq doesn't affect Wade's shooting. If anything, his presence on the inside hinders Wade, since Wade likes to penetrate to the basket. When Shaq misses games, Wade's points go up, and his FG% goes slightly down because he has to take on more of a scoring load. As for Wade's rookie season, we would have finished with a much better record if Wade hadn't missed 21 games.
April 15, 200620 yr Put Dwyane Wade on this years Lakers team instead of Kobe and they win 30 games. That said, if I'm building a team and can have one or the other, I take Wade because Kobe's a dick and will eventually ruin anything I build.

Stastically Wade>Kobe As a player Kobe> Wade And thanks for dragging me into this. You certainly make a good argument that Kobe might be more dominant at carrying a team when he is by himself. But one of the biggest knocks on Kobe as a player is his role in ending that incredible duo they had going. He cared more about it being his team and having the ball in his hands than he did about racking up the titles. And right now he seems to care mostly about being a one man scoring machine. So that said, if one is building a title contender, does Kobe's track record fit well with this? Would share the ball with other stars on the team? Will he mesh with other stars on the team? What happens when the other stars complain and Kobe has to be a leader? Which superstar do you trust in that situation, Kobe or Wade? This reminds me of when Tmac was with the Magic and he was a scoring machine. In fact we won the similiar number of games as Kobe. But Tmac wanted other stars and he wanted to play in a well rounded team-he wanted a title contender more than leading the league in scoring. Initially he deferred to Yao before Van Gundy told him to take over. He wanted to play with Shaq or a dominant big man. Kobe seems to prefer the opposite, ie the situation he is in now. He prefers this to the situation 99% of players in the league would kill for, to play alongside Shaq.

Actually, it was Mitch Kupchak's decision to give the reins of the team and the huge money to Kobe. Kupchak made the choice of who he was going to build the future Lakers around, and he made the wiser choice going with the younger player. Shaq isnt worth what he is paid right now or in the future, Kobe is. I think it's a literal slap in the face to Bryant as a player to suggest that he'd rather wallow in mediocrity and the bottom/out of the playoff picture every year so he can boost his scoring average. I would put Kobe's drive to win right now higher then anyone in the league. While I don't like him much as a man off the basketball court, on it I love his tenacity, passion, and desire. Something most dont have and something that is plaguing the NBA. To compare him to McGrady is a slap in the face as well. When the going got tough for Tracy in Orlando, he jumped ship and abandoned the team who paid him loads of money and made him the franchise. Kobe knows its his team and is going to do what it takes to get them over the hump and not bail on it. Kobe has improved in year 2 without Shaq significantly with a semi-poor supporting cast. I've never known why people always dog him for having a high scoring average. The point of the game is still to score points, is it not? Last night Kobe put up 50 (61% FG). Kwame had 20. Odom had a triple double. The Lakers won.

Shaq isnt worth what he is paid right now or in the future, Kobe is. Like you said, Kobe did not run Shaq out of town. Did Mitch Kupchak trade Shaq to try and get Kobe to sign with the Lakers and come back to L.A.? Probably, but that isn't Kobe's fault. Kobe would have been in Chicago through a sign and trade if it wasn't for some Bulls' money issues (people seem to forget that), so to suggest that Kobe ran Shaq out of town is flat out wrong.
April 15, 200620 yr Put Dwyane Wade on this years Lakers team instead of Kobe and they win 30 games. That said, if I'm building a team and can have one or the other, I take Wade because Kobe's a dick and will eventually ruin anything I build. I don't know. You might be right. But this years Lakers team...or especially last year's Lakers team...they're not that different from Wade's rookie team. As we all know by now, the Heat made the 2nd round that year. And, yes, I know they only went .500. But Wade didn't really become the man on that team until later on in the year...and that transition coincides with the team's rise in fortunes. They finished the year on a 17-4 streak. If Wade did more than Kobe with a team whose 2nd and 3rd options were Odom and Caron Butler...how can we really say that Wade would only win 30 games with this years Lakers? On the other hand, Kobe may be better equipped for this year's Lakers team...or at least the Lakers team that he has, in a sense, created. Kobe is better equipped than Wade to win games by himself, I won't argue that. He'll also lose a lot of games by himself. But if I'm picking one guy to carry a crappy team to the level of average, I'm picking Kobe. However, if I want to contend for a championship, I'm still going with Wade. Kobe's massive ego and ball hoggery can pull a crappy team up from the bottom, but it can also keep a good team from becoming great. Because he's still going to lose some games on his own. Wade almost never does that. He's a more consistent performer who allows other people to pick up the slack when he is having an off-night. The problem with the year's Heat team is that no one besides Shaq seems willing to play that role. Antione can apparently only score when he's the go to guy. But I digress.
April 15, 200620 yr Kobe is an amazing talent. Nobody can carry a team by themselves. When was the last championship team to have only one identifiable stud? You can't base a player's value solely on who he plays with. That being said, I think Kobe puts pressure on himself to take all the shots--and in a given 82 game season, if he was more selfless--I guarantee you that some of his role players could improve. But when he tries to dominate games all the time, it's hard for him to do that. BTW, don't get me started on 'switching Wade with Kobe'. Wade played with Odom in '03 and they had an amazing run once Wade was healthy. I think they would be an absolute dynamic duo if put together again. Does this say something about Kobe's selfishness? I really don't know. But when I saw Wade play with Odom (and mind you, everyone else around them were basically role players), it was a thing of beauty.

Please Odom is almost putting up the exact same numbers this year then he did with Wade. In fact he is shooting better from the field, from 3, and is averaging more assist this year. He averages 2 less points per game, and .5 less rebounds. So I wouldn't call his year with Wade a "career" year.
