April 27, 200620 yr Why?...Mitre is the pitcher with the less upside and the one with the most trade value besides D-Train...Texas Rangers or Devil Rays would love to have Mighty Mite in thir rotation right now and they are two of the teams with the deepest farm system talent...Evan the Yanks would love Mitre as a 5th starter if they want to remain competitive with the Red Sox :lol That's exactly what the Yankees need to hang with the Red Sox, MITRE!!!!!! That isn't a far fetched idea Mitre has pitched very well for the Cubs and as you guys say hasn't pitched badly for us...With the Yankees he would do very well in the role of 5th starter...Especially with that Yankee offense Mitre didnt pitch even close to "very well" for the Cubs
April 27, 200620 yr Why did we trade for Mitre anyway then? Wouldn't you take him for free? He was the throw in to Nolasco and Pinto, and his sole purpose is to eat 180+ innings and keep an era in the low 5's in 2006, maybe develop into the 6th or 7th long reliever type longterm. He has 0 trade value, and if he actually becomes good versus the marginal stopgap pitcher he is now, the Marlins should keep him because he's el cheapo. It's silly to think the Rangers, or Yankees, would target him to "help" their rotation. Mitre is not deciding a pennant. They can do much better. The Marlins trade partners are the DRays, Angels, DBacks, Royals, etc.... teams with weaker young pitching, but excellent young hitting. Not contending teams looking to add pieces - we don't have those pieces to trade. No one is giving anything for Mitre, or Borowski, or Helms, etc
April 27, 200620 yr If Mitre is traded, it won't be until the deadline. I won't rule this out as a possibility, as a contender might be looking for a number four or five guy, while at that point we may be wanting to take a look at some of our guys who might have a higher ceiling. It's not something I'm expecting, but it can't be ruled out. A contender doesn't need a Serigo Mitre when they can land a Barry Zito or someone of that sort, you don't usually get regular guys in deadline deals, you get all-stars or very good vets in the final years of their respective contracts. Sergio Mitre will not bring back any valueble pieces in any trade (realistically), why deal him, all we would get would be a career minor leaguer OR maybe if we are lucky a VERY young guy in A ball with upside that is atleast 5 years away from the majors.
