Posted September 17, 200321 yr I was thinking next year i hope cab's can play short and maybe we can trade gonzo and lee for a good starting pitcher.i think this will be our starting five if hopefully guerrero comes here. 1.Pierre. 2.Castillo. 3.Vlad. 4.Lowell. 5.Encarnacion. 6.Conine. 7.Castro. 8.Cab's.(since there's no spot to put him in) 9.Pitcher.
September 17, 200321 yr Cabs played SS before 3b and LF so he can't be that bad. SS is an important position and experience is needed. How about trade Encarnacion and put Cabrera in Left? Is Encarnacion signed next year?
September 17, 200321 yr Author I think cab's will look strange at short but if he does good no problem!and i think enc is signed through next season."CAPE"?
September 17, 200321 yr I think we have a core that works. Sea Bass and Cabs are a big part of it. Sea Bass was brought in for the glove, not the bat.
September 17, 200321 yr Why is castro there. Pudge will come back next season but i hope we can squeeze in Castro in some games.
September 17, 200321 yr Conine pitched for UCLA and in the minors. Lets put him as our ace too.    Cabs a SS, Conine as staff ace.     Sounds good to me.
September 17, 200321 yr Vlad? Orlando Cabrera? This is the same 'Let's sign Tejada' conversation we had yesterday. Who d'you want to talk about tomorrow? Roger Clemens?
September 18, 200321 yr I've been wondering myself how Cabrera would handle shortstop in the majors. It seems pretty clear that Gonzo will always be the least productive player in our lineup offensively and -- let's face it -- while he does make the occasional defensive gem at short, he also makes the occasional boneheaded play. If Cabrera could handle playing shortstop (and he's stated that he's always wanted to play shortstop), that would allow us to have both Conine (in left) and Lee (at first) in the lineup next season. If Cabs could play short, then instead of looking to trade Lee this offseason, we could trade Agon and let Pudge sign elsewhere. An infield of Lee, Castillo, Cabrera, and Lowell would be pretty scary. I don't know if it's financially possible, but production-wise it'd be a good course of action.
September 18, 200321 yr We could do what DownRodeo said. Lee is a very key player ( well, at least in the 2nd Half) and i think he should still have him next season. Very good idea...

I think Gonzo is way better than what y ou say he is. He is one of the best at making double plays and you have to have a real shortstop in the majors. You cant get away with even andy fox at SS. What makes you think you can get by with Cabrera when he's not a SS. He outgrew it and is not rangy/quick/flexible enough to handle it.
September 18, 200321 yr That's a very good idea. If we do that we can have A-Gon as (what else?) a late-inning defensive substitute. His defense could be well used in the 9th of a close game with Loop on the mound, and that would help satisfy those of you who have something against him. Barring injury, Cabs should be a very productive player next season, and since I-Rod will probably be leaving anyway next season, we can use Castro/Redmond as the catcher. The only question is if we'll be able to keep D Lee next year because of the financial situation. In that case what I'd do would be keep Miggy at Lf, and maybe try Conine at 1st.
September 18, 200321 yr i would atleast like to see Cabs at SS.... maybe the Marlins are thinking along our lines
