Good news, Joe G said that Matt Herges returned to the team in time for last nites game, and will be on the roster as available for tonite. His son is improved.

Yikes.

My wife's having our first kid in 3 weeks. Thats gotta be really hard.

Wow. Congrats to you both.

Thanks.

Baby has pneumonia but his condition has stabilized. Great to hear.

It's not that out of the ordinary for a baby born a little premature to have pneumonia or other respiratory issues.

Hopefully that's all this is and the Herges family can breathe a sigh of relief.

Good to hear that the baby is well enough for Matt to rejoin the team. Maybe this is what was on his mind all along.

Here's to a full recovery by the child, I know what being sick that young is like.

Thanks everyone for being stand up about this. I know we may have gotten on Matt's case a bit, but y'all showed you're not a hard-hearted bunch afterall.

We're not gonna throw Matt under the bus just yet :lol

Get well soon Baby Herges, everyone's rooting for you.

It must be tremendously difficult for Matt and his Wife.

Back again: Herges returned for Thursday's game after flying back home and missing Wednesday's match-up because of his infant son's illness.

Girardi said that Herges' wife had told him to come back for the game since the Marlins head right back to Florida, and the pitcher would be away for only 10 to 12 hours.

"His son is by no means out of the woods," Girardi said. "I told him if he wanted to stay, stay. "

Don't take this as an indictment against Herges' abilities or performance this season, but.....

There's no way he should see a pitching mound tonight unless it's an absolute blowout. Who knows what the pressure of a close game coupled with what his son is going through could do to the poor guy. I think he should get as big a break as possible.

I agree he should be used very sparingly until this is resolved.

If the worst does happen (God forbid) will Joe give him as much time as he needs or is there a limit to how much time he can take off ? Does one get put on the DL or how is that worked out as to a replacement ?
