rferry
http://google.com/trends?q=florida+marlins...ate=all&geo=all As expected, huge surges around Opening Day. Searches mainly come from the affluent northern suburbs, with barely any at all from the rest of Florida. Folks in Atlanta and Chicago rank up there with Orlando. Venezuela far out paces searches from the U.S. http://google.com/trends?q=florida+marlins...ate=all&geo=all Compared to our regional rivals, the Braves and Devil Rays. Marlins searches dip dramatically mid-season. Good news is that the Devil Rays don't have much of the foothold on Orlando and Jacksonville as they do in the traditional media. Guest Juanky
But the Stadium should still be in South Miami... Maybe Miami people already know their way to the Marlin websites of choice :thumbup I can't remember the last time I typed 'Florida Marlins' into google. Maybe two years ago? prinmemito
It's interesting how much interest the team draws from Venezuela. I think that's a great market for the Marlins ready to happen. Hopefully we can exploit that in the future after we get our stadium.

I'm not sure it's so much of a statement of the untapped potential of the market as much as how well the club has marketed to the region. Surely it calls for the Marlins to try to work out a deal to sell rights to Marlins games much as the Mariners ahve done in Japan.
chickenman04
But the Stadium should still be in South Miami... Are you kidding me? 60% of Season Ticket Holders are from Broward County and another 10% are from Palm Beach. Why in the world does the county with less than 1/3 of the fanbase deserve to have the stadium? It won't happen, but its a crime that the stadium isn't in Broward. We learned a long time ago that the Hispanic fanbase this team has been after just won't go to games. This is whether the team is good or bad. I say that since 70 percent of the people at games come from north of County Line Rd, Miami should not have the stadium. Especially SOUTH Miami. It's a bad enough ride into Dade County as it is. rferry
He was being sarcastic. Anyway, it's not about deserving. We are nothing but pawns. It's about increasing future sales. Being close to busy centers between 5-7 is what the club wants. That is why every single owner of the Marlins have focused on a location toward the south, closer to downtown and more dense population centers. An area where people will want to go is what the club wants. An area that can be redeveloped into a booming tax district is what the county and city want. Maybe the reason that 60% of the season ticket holders are from Broward is because the stadium is a 15-20 minute drive from most people in Broward. Its 3 times that if you live in South Miami, Kendall, Pinecrest or 5 times that if you live in Cutler Ridge or Perrine, and 6 times that if you live in Homestead or Florida City. I'd like to know just what is wrong with the City of South Miami ? It's a very pleasant bedroom community with average to above average incomes, nice "downtown" area on Sunset Drive and borders on Coral Gables at many points. There is nowhere to put the stadium in South Miami, but I don't think you have a clue as to exactly where South Miami is located, and are speaking out of your a**. It's a bright spot in Miami-Dade County, not a black hole as you seem to think it is.

D.S. is much closer to Broward County than Miami and the people of Broward have proven they cannot support the Marlins. the stadium is like 15 minutes away from dense population centers of Broward and we are always in the cellar in attendance. putting the new stadium closer to the center of Miami and getting away from the county line is the way to go
chickenman04
My apologies to South Miami, I was indeed refering to the most Southern part of MIami-Dade County. I dont' think of the area as a black hole, I just think that you should put the stadium more central, but not too far to the South. As it stands we still are 70% of the fanbase, and you will lose a portion of the Palm Beach/Broward fans if they have to drive to a stadium next to the Orange Bowl. I am, however, 100% in favor of the area in Hiahleah (spelling?) where they want to put the park. I hope this works out, because its right off the highway and will be a nice compromise. chickenman04
you're not gonna suddenly get more Miami-Dade residents to show up to games because you put the stadium down by the Orange Bowl. A new stadium may attract more fans, but you won't suddenly have all of Dade County show up just because you moved the Stadium further south. If they're gonna go to a game, than they're gonna go to a game. To put the stadium all the way down there is to spit all over the fans from Broward and Palm Beach that have kept this team afloat for the past 13 years. It needs to be somewhere more central.
