A couple of notes from around the league

Well guys this week is going to be the most stressful for Marlins fans since Game 7 of the WS. Is the fix in? I just going to say there are alot people in MLB that don't want to see the Fish in the playoffs(remember my post back in the spring about the WS banner in LF :plain )

A couple of notes I've gather about a couple of free agents. first, Millwood WILL NOT resign with the Phillies. Millwood a Brave? :whistle Also another former Brave LHP D. Moss, now with O's will probable not be tender.Basically they want to clear alot of payroll. For who? Vlad G. Again Moss a Brave? I read the Castillo post about the Cubs looking a Castillo. Well the rumor is John Henry has give the word to Boy wonder to go hard after Castillo. Also names like Pedro and Millar will start the recruitment once the season ends. Which NY team will win for Sheff services? :D

Side note, I know alot of you are going to disagree with me BUT has anyone caught the quotes by Luis Gonzalez about Dodgers RHP Edwin Jackson. Lets just say the kid impress the hell out Gonzo with his 95-97MPH just nasty stuff. O ya He was one of the names along with the FSL pitcher of the year LHP Greg Miller in the Lowell deal. Just watching Cabrera play I don't know if now it wouldn't have been a bad move if the Marlins don't make the playoff. Just my opinion...be gentle

Millwood won't be going back to Atlanta. Ted Turner still has an amazing amount of money, but AOL Time Warner is dropping and the reason the braves got rid of millwood was to cut 10 million off the payroll.

With the disappointing season Kevin Millwood has had, he deserves around 7-8 million, but there will be a crazy team that is willing to give him 10-11 million. At this point, the most likely scenario is Kevin Millwood joining Tom Glavine in New York for the Mets.

According to W.I.P (which you guys probably don't know about, but its THE sports radio station in the Philly area), it was reported by Glen Macnow, IMO, the most accurate and one of the most creditible people on WIP that the Phillies would get Bartolo Colon. He didn't say any more than that, but he told us to remember that we heard it from him first. This was on our board, but i was listening too.

Macnow was right about the Flyers signing Hackett and even had insight on the Phillies getting kevin millwood before any of us even know what the hell he was talking about. If Macnow says something like that, its believeable. Just some FYI for you guys.

Don't you guys have a lot of FAs coming up? Lee? Enc maybe? Castillo? Which ones are most valuable to your team and who would you plan to keep/go after?

Colon hasnt been too good anyway this year.....

and DLee isnt a FA

but he's not coming back...probably.

right? This is either the last, or next to last year of arbitration eligibilty for Lee. We can either offer him arbitration or not. If we do, both parties are bound by the $$$ set by the arbitrator although we may trade him before or after arbitration. My guess is we offer him arbitration, then trade him and let someone else go to arbitration with him. This is not uncommon.

We also can opt to not offer arbitration in which case Lee (or anyone else in similar circumstances) would become a free agent, able to sign with whoever he chooses. We would get a draft pick as compensation. The longer his years of service and his perceived value will determine the level of the draft pick.

Hope this helps.

and ps....

its no longer aol time warner.

its now simply time warner.

due to aol being the piece of garbage many have said since the aquired it...time warner has finally gotten smart and dropped that name from their company name and logo.

they were a decent to good company prior to getting that crap.

IbleedPhillieRed, I think the reason and ONLY reason Millwood was trade to Philly was because Maddox surprise everbody by taken that 10million tender(I think thats the number)Because the Braves wanted to keep Millwood. Millwood does want to go back to Atlanta, and has told friends that. Also alot will depend on what Sheff is offered in the open market, because if Sheff leaves they'll try to go back to the old Atlanta way pitching pitching pitching

I thought WIP had a bad rep with Phillies fans and news. Even when WPHT, their sister station, aired the Phils they still were bad concerning the Phillies.

Just so you know, the Braves have Maddux, Sheffield, Castilla, Javy, and a few other noteables as free agents this offseason. Maddux is a possible name to go to San Diego, and Millwood could come over as a replacement for him, possibly.
