German and Martinez

German, Martinez updates: A couple of relievers on the disabled list are close to returning.

Franklyn German, who threw rehab assignments Saturday and Sunday for Class A Jupiter, likely will be activated Tuesday.

The team wanted to see how German's right shoulder responded to pitching in back-to-back games. He was given a day of rest Monday.

German went on the disabled list May 10 with shoulder tendinitis.

Also, right-hander Carlos Martinez is throwing well and could be activated during the upcoming road trip, which begins Friday at Colorado.

Martinez went on the disabled list April 17 with a right elbow sprain.

On Monday, Martinez threw 21 pitches in one inning of an extended spring game. To get the right-hander some more pitches, they put a runner on base even though he didn't allow a baserunner, just to get extra work.

His velocity was up to 94 mph, where it was before he went on the disabled list.

When Martinez returns, he will be eased into a setup role.

Girardi was asked if Martinez could be activated on the upcoming road trip. The manager replied: "It's very possible."

Good to see Martinez is throwing the heat again.

We knew this....

The bigger question is who is gone or demoted?

Pinto, Kensing, and Petit have been great. Herges is trash and Wellemeyer has been disappointing.

You just answered your own question. It's just how are we going to get rid of Herges thats the issue

Wellemeyere is all but gone, and Pinto or Herges would be the other two to decide with.

Petit will be suited for the long relief or 6th inning imo and u throw in Kensing for the 7th inning after Martinez gets back to normal with Jobo still closing things up for now.

The pen will most likely be...

Borrowski

Kensing

Messenger

Herges (I wish Pinto would stay over him but we know that wont happen)

Petit

Martinez

German

So you're saying Wellmeyer will be gone?

Yea, if you look at the way he's been used it's pretty clear that he'll be the odd man out. I think every game he has pitched in has been mop up duty.

And when Mitre gets back someone will have to be DFA and by sending down someone like Petit, Messenger or Kensing down to the minors it solves nothing.

I hope you're right...I really don't want to see Petit sent down.
