May 31, 200620 yr guys with all of the money that loria gets in revenue sharing u gotta beleive that hes just staking up his pockets this year and then will have to raise payroll atleast 10-15 million next year because of the free money he gets.. MLB should make it mandatory that he spend all of the revenue sharing on his team and not his art galleries!!!!
May 31, 200620 yr it was stated on one of the radio shows with sampson or beinfest that next year they will go up to 35 million. I bet spending money on long term contracts with willis and cabrera at least that is my bet. but the new collective bargaining agreement is this offseason so shall see.
May 31, 200620 yr Sampson was just on 790 and said that a new stadium does not necessarily guarentee a payroll increase.
May 31, 200620 yr Sampson was just on 790 and said that a new stadium does not necessarily guarentee a payroll increase. Let's clarify what he actually said: A new stadium "deal" does not in itself translate into an increased payroll. As long as they are at Dolphins Stadium they can't make any money. At the same time, the objective now is to continue to build this core team by adding players with specific skills so that by the time the stadium is open we'll be competing for another world championship. Samson went on to say though that knowing Jeffrey, if he smells a winner and sees the team in contention sooner, he'll spend money to get into the playoffs because he wants to win at any cost. I think that's a fair paraphrasing of what he said.

What lies, it makes me sick, I called the station right then but the interview was ending. Come on a 10 year old could figure this math out - the payroll is 15 million dollars and accoring to many sources we receive $ 30 million dollars in revenue sharing plus another $20 million to $30 million in TV, radio, Internet and Central Fund payoffs (generated by national TV contracts and licensing deals). (italics quoted from Jayson Stark ESPN insider article) So unless we are paying 45 million dollar a year rent ...umm....of course we are not....The Marlins are making a disgusting profit right now probably the highest % profit in MLB yet they still put 100 % blatant lies such as " we can't make money in Joe Robbie " HA ! :mad :mad   Another quick blurb from Jayson Stark and the main reason we should all be upset about this, unless of course you simply root for Jeff Loria and how money he can make...or stand to inherit some money from him. Talk about welfare, there's zero incentive for these teams (I.E...us ! the Marlins) to take that money and spend it. ... If they get better, they draw more people. If they draw more people, they get a better TV contract and they sell more hot dogs. And if you do that, you lose your $30 million a year [in revenue-sharing money only]. Then you actually have to run your franchise like a real business and make it work. I simply want a winning product not a money making product.
June 1, 200620 yr It's no secret Loria's objective is to line his pockets...He is an embarassment to MLB product of Bud Selig incompetance as a Commisioner...Selig likes these Baseball pimps like Loria
June 1, 200620 yr Revenues received from national sources are not an indication of profitibility at the local stadium. Revenues received from other teams' local revenue sources and transferred to you are not an inidication of the profitability of your team.

Revenues received from other teams' local revenue sources and transferred to you are not an inidication of the profitability of your team. Agreed. Why does everyone think that payroll and rent at Joe Robbie is all it takes to run a MLB franchise? Do people really think the minor leagues run themselves? That drafted players don't get signing bonuses? That the teams travel for free and stay in hotels for free? The front office is a bunch of volunteers that are there just because they love baseball? The grounds crews just love playing with turf so much they don't want to get paid? Security the same? Insurance companies give us policies just so they can have their names linked to professional sports? Etc, etc, etc. Loria is going to make $$$ this year? Good. He deserves it after losing $$$ since he took over and still given us 3 consecutive winning seasons with a World Championship thrown in. How long do the complainers think they would have their jobs if the companies they worked for consistently lost large wads of cash. With the support this community has shown this franchise over the years it is a miracle Loria and company are even trying so hard to keep the team here. We should be grateful for the commitment they have shown because we are truely not worthy of it. People need to wake up and stop complaining. Try going to the games instead of making up excuses why they can't or won't. Now THAT"S a rant.
June 1, 200620 yr I am always amazed how people read what they want to read. I was careful in choosing the words I did to paraphrase what was said yesterday. Samson was clearly talking about the internals of playing in PPS, which after all is where the core of their revenues SHOULD come from.

June 1, 200620 yr Means little to me either way if he makes a profit or not. He will still make it with a payroll around 35 million. I know Gammons and a few others have said they expect us to raise payroll to around there to be with the D-rays and a few others as the lowest payrolls in the league still so we get the huge revenue sharing still. Just we will get a more contending team. Perhaps a bullpen arm or two that is legit and lock up the 2 superstars long term.
