The Tigers currently have the best record in the big leagues at 47-24.

Alot of this credit should go to their front office, led by Dave Dombrowski for not only what he brought it, but for what the Tigers no longer have. The following is a look at players that the Tigers lost after their 2005 campaign, what those players are doing with their new teams, and what the Tigers have replacing them.

Rondell White

Tigers let him walk in the off-season and he signed a free agent deal with the Minnesota Twins.

White is currently batting .182 with 15 RBIs in 54 games. He has a .209 OBP.

Replacement: Marcus Thames | .303/.378/.658, 14 HR, 24 RBI

Nook Logan

Sent down to AAA Toledo after seeing action in 129 games in '05

Logan is currently batting .179 in 39 at bats.

Replacement: Curtis Granderson | .287/.384/.490, 10 HR, 34 RBI

Jason Johnson

Tigers let him walk in the off-season and he signed a free agent deal with the Cleveland Indians

Johnson is currently 3-7 with a 6.00 ERA in 13 starts.

Replacement: Kenny Rogers | 10-3, 3.17 ERA, 57 SO, 1.10 WHIP

Wilfredo Ledezma/Sean Douglass

Ledezma is in AAA Toledo while Douglass is currently playing in Japan for the Hiroshima Carp.

Ledezma is 4-3 with a 2.52 ERA. Douglass is not playing American baseball.

Replacement: Justin Verlander | 8-4, 3.21 ERA, 53 SO, 1.25 WHIP

Kyle Farnsworth

Farnsworth was traded to the Atlanta Braves during the '05 season and then signed with the New York Yankees

Farnsworth is 2-4 with a 4.70 ERA in 33 games. He also has 4 blown saves in 5 chances.

Replacement: Joel Zumaya | 3-0, 2.34 ERA, 44 SO, 1.02 WHIP

DD is one of, if not the most, underrated GM in the game today. Each one of his 'losses' was plugged in with a player who is far surpassing what the other player did in 2005 or for their new team.

Should be a virtual lock for any executive of the year award.

We know all about Dave; Still love him for what he did here (responsible for a lot of the guys involved in our '03 Series as well).

Zumaya and Verlander have made this staff immensely saturated and as a fan of pitching--I am definitely rooting for the Tigas to get far.

Def. Dave is the man! We have had some great GM's....

And Leyland is god!

A healthy Magglio isn't hurting either.

Jason Johnson was DFA'd be the Indians today.

Rondell White sucks so hard, but it seems like whenever anyone goes to Minnesota, they stop learning how to hit.

Good thread. Dave Dombrowski, along with his assistants, scouting personnel, and overall front office staff have totally turned around the Tigers franchise that was mired in awfulness during the Randy Smith Era in Detroit. There was no farm system (it was ranked near the bottom), nothing on the major league level, and no free agent ever wanted to come to Detroit.

Dombrowski, through the Amateur draft and rule 5 draft has created a great young group throughout the minor leagues and in the pros. Not only is Verlander, Zumaya and Granderson making noise in the pros, but they have guys waiting in line down in the minors that could step in and perhaps produce now (Humberto Sanchez, Jordan Tata).

It's been fun watching this team grow ever since that disastrous 2003 campaign.

the Tigers are showing you don't need star players to win...

they have the best record in baseball, but will only have one All Star, and that's only because they have to under the rules...it shows the depth and balance of the team

I just wished my dad (a Tigers fan) would shut the f*** up about them

Very true, though that's also partially because they seemingly always try and plug holes with washed up retreads like White and Tony Bautista who might not have been able to hit anymore anyway.

Castillo, though, is playing reasonably well for them, but he's also a guy who acquiring made sense.

BTW, Maggs has hit two bombs tonight through 4 innings vs the Brew Crew.

10-0 Tigers. Going for their 5th win in a row right now.

Last night on Baseball Tonight, Kruk stated that the Tigers trade Joel Zumaya for John Smoltz. Heh.

Kenny Rogers and Ivan Rodriguez should both make the team.

Justin Verlander and Zumaya have outside shots.

Rogers yes, but no way is Pudge more deserving than Mauer, Posada, or Martinez...

Verlander and Zumaya have no chance...Rogers Kazmir and Zito will make the pitching staff because they're the most deserving on their respective teams...then you have Santana, Conteras, Mussina, and Halladay...as for the other four spots, three of the last spots have to go to Paplebon, Ryan, and Nathan...then the last spot either goes to Schilling, Rivera, or Shields, so there's really no room for either of them
