Ward Burton looking to make NEXTEL Cup comeback in 2007
Will UPS follow DJ to Toyota next season or will they stay with the 88? "One of the things we're working on is the sponsor,'' said Burton, which makes the No. 88 car more viable since its deal with UPS is up after this season. "I'm working on a couple of things to try to bring something home.'' They'll probably follow Jarrett.

Bruins fire head coach Mike Sullivan
Bruins fire Sullivan after two seasons as coach BOSTON -- Mike Sullivan was fired Tuesday after two seasons as coach of the Boston Bruins, incoming general manager Peter Chiarelli's first major move with the team. No replacement was announced. The Bruins finished last in the Northeast Division last season. In 2003-04, Sullivan's first season, they lost in the first round of the playoffs. But former general manager Mike O'Connell chose not to retain many veterans during the lockout that wiped out the 2004-05 season, a decision that helped lead to his firing March 25. He was replaced with Chiarelli, who has been assistant GM in Ottawa and can't take over the Bruins until July 15. Because of the unusual arrangement, Chiarelli decided to talk with possible replacements before deciding whether to keep Sullivan. "Peter had not met Mike prior to coming to Boston and he felt that it was incumbent upon him to get to know Mike before making a decision on the coaching situation," said assistant GM Jeff Gorton, who has been running the team since O'Connell was fired. "Mike went to Ottawa a couple of weeks ago and they had a good discussion about the game and how it needed to be played in order to have success. Peter advised Mike that he would be talking to other candidates. He went through that process and his decision was that at this time we are better served to have a clean slate," he said. Team spokeswoman Heidi Holland said Sullivan didn't want to comment Tuesday. Chiarelli was hired to a four-year contract on May 26 and held his first news conference in Boston five days later. Sullivan watched from the back of the room. Awaiting his fate is an "awkward" situation, Sullivan said then. "I'm anxious to have that conversation with Peter. ... I also understand that it's a necessary part of the business, and the reality is when you don't have success change is inevitable," Sullivan said at the time. The 37-year-old Sullivan succeeded O'Connell to become the 26th head coach in Bruins history. O'Connell had taken over late in the 2002-03 season after Robbie Ftorek was fired. O'Connell added Sullivan, who was head coach at Boston's AHL team in Providence, as an assistant coach. That had been Sullivan's only season at Providence, where he went 41-17-9-4. After Boston's season ended, he returned to Providence for the AHL playoffs. After playing four seasons at Boston University, Sullivan turned pro in 1990 with San Diego of the International Hockey League. O'Connell was his coach there. Sullivan joined the NHL with San Jose in 1991-92, the start of an 11-year playing career in which he had 54 goals, 82 assists, 136 points and 203 penalty minutes in 709 games. Sullivan also played for Calgary, Boston, Nashville and Phoenix. He retired after the 2001-02 season. ESPN

Duke AD hurt in boating accident, son charged
Duke AD hurt in boating accident, son charged RALEIGH, N.C. -- Duke athletic director Joe Alleva injured his head during a boating accident on a lake north of Durham, and his son was charged in the wreck. Joseph David "J.D." Alleva, 27, was charged with operating a boat while impaired Friday after the ski boat he was driving ran onto a pile of rocks at Hyco Lake. Sgt. Tim Sasser of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said Tuesday that J.D. Alleva refused to give officers a breath or blood sample, but three officers smelled alcohol on him several hours after the accident. The boat was going about 18 mph or more in a no-wake zone when it hit the rocky bank of a canal on the lake, driving most of the boat out of the water and damaging its hull, Sasser said. After the accident, the younger Alleva swam about three-quarters of a mile to the nearest lake house to use a telephone to call for help, Sasser said. His father was treated at a a hospital, where he got 42 stitches to his head. "The nurse counted 42 outside stitches in the middle of his forehead into the hairline. It was a curved cut that penetrated deep," Sasser said. "They did several inside stitches. He took a pretty good lick. I call that a severe injury." In a statement issued Tuesday, Joe Alleva said he wasn't seriously injured and was back at work. He said the accident "occurred as we were trying to navigate our way back to shore in dark, rainy conditions." The statement did not mention the charge against J.D. Alleva. Alcohol use has been a hot topic at Duke this spring. The school canceled the season of its nationally ranked men's lacrosse team after an exotic dancer told police she was raped by team members at a party in March. Three players were charged and face trials. The younger Alleva played baseball at Duke from 1998-2001, the same year he was charged in Durham County with driving while impaired. ESPN

Dan Marino and Mark Cuban join financier's bid to buy Penguins
Cuban, Marino join financier's bid to buy Penguins PITTSBURGH -- Mark Cuban is known for baiting NBA officials, and Dan Marino is the most prolific passer in NFL history. But the Pittsburgh natives now want to expand into a different sport in their hometown -- hockey. The two have joined with a New York City financier in trying to buy the NHL's Penguins from Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux's group, which is selling the two-time Stanley Cup champions even as the team seeks a new arena deal. The group of prospective Penguins owners is headed by Andrew Murstein, the president of Medallion Financial Corp., a company that finances New York City taxicab medallions and originates consumer loans for recreational vehicles. Also included are principals in Pittsburgh-based Walnut Capital, a real estate management and development company. Walnut Capital CEO Gregg Perelman recently teamed with Cuban to buy a nine-story downtown Pittsburgh office building. Cuban, who grew up in suburban Pittsburgh, is the billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner whose holdings include a movie production firm and high-definition TV channel. Murstein was in Dallas on Tuesday, presumably to meet with Cuban about his involvement in the group. In the past, Murstein expressed interest in buying two NHL franchises, the St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks, and the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer. Todd Reidbord, Walnut Capital's president, said recently his group was the only one interested in buying the Penguins that has fully committed to staying in Pittsburgh. At least four other groups have expressed interest in the team, which is expected to be sold before the start of the NHL season in October. Lemieux's ownership group, which also includes California businessman Ron Burkle, bought the team in federal bankruptcy court in 1999 -- partly to protect the nearly $30 million in deferred money owed Lemieux on his contract. Lemieux's group has since paid back all money owed by the club before its bankruptcy filing, a rarity during such procedures. The uncertainty over the Penguins' arena status has clouded their future in Pittsburgh. Lemieux's group has partnered with Isle of Capri Casinos, which has agreed to build a $290 million arena if it wins the solitary license that will be awarded for a slot machine casino in the city. Gov. Ed Rendall has asked those two bidders to give $7.5 million a year toward an arena, with the Penguins contributing $8.5 million from the start and an additional $4 million per year, including $1.1 million in naming rights. The Penguins have declined to sign off on the deal, as the Isle of Capri bid would not require the team to make a financial contribution toward replacing the NHL's oldest and smallest arena. Murstein revealed the addition of Cuban and Marino in his group in an interview Tuesday with Pittsburgh radio station WEAE, an ESPN affiliate. Cuban did not immediately respond to messages from The Associated Press but confirmed his involvement in an e-mail to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. ESPN

Olivo & Treanor -- Playing Time Split
200-point difference and .280 average or not, a .316 OBP is terrible. And belongs nowhere near the word "better" even if it is in relation to a guy with a .200 point difference in OPS. Crap is crap. And slightly less smelly crap doesn't call for more opportunities. Perhaps I should have typed 'Olivo's not hitting much better than Treanor'. Anyways, .958 - 1.000 OPS in the past week You said they were both hitting the same. Thats ridiculous.
-
Olivo & Treanor -- Playing Time Split
Treanor's hitting about as well as Olivo anyway 214 AVG, 1 HR, 7 RBI vs. 286 AVG, 6 HR, 24 RBI. About as well? I think not.

who going weekend game vs red sox
Absoloutly ridiculous that they jacked the prices for this series vs Boston. Never heard of anything like that. I believe weekend games are more $ in general. On the board at the stadium, it says all tickets are priced the same except for this series and a few other games.

put him on the DL already! Looks like it would be retroactive to June 21, meaning he could come off July 6 (series right before the AS Break) They'll probably sit him till after the break.

Uggla might be out longer than ya'll think
Dan Uggla (hamstring) hit in the batting cage prior to Monday's game. Uggla will begin running the bases on Tuesday. If he isn't pain-free in the next couple days' the Marlins will likely put him on the disabled list. Jun. 27 - 11:48 am et Source: Palm Beach Post Another hammy gone. My guess is he'll be gone a few weeks. Possibly the 15 day DL. Its a loss but so far we have been pretty good without him. Hopefully Alf can keep it up.

Crowd problems in Dolphin Stadium questions
Good Lord! I have only been an MB.com member since like June of 2005 and I'll bet I have seen this thread or something identical at least once a week since then. Who gives a sh*t? The fans just stink in South Florida. Quit making excuses for us. It has nothing to do with rain, heat, stadium location. I had season tickets in 2003 and 2004 and do you know that the night the Marlins clinched the wild card, there may have been 15,000 on hand to see it? It was raining, but they were trying to clinch a spot in the f***ing playoffs for the love of God! If people aren't going to show up for that, or any of the other games in the second half of '03 and all of '04, then all the excuses and reasons in the world add up to doo doo. The only solution is to build a domed stadium in everybodies backyard with free parking, concessions, leather seats, AC, complimentary hand-job, two-ply sh*t paper, and free krispey kreme donuts. Then you MIGHT be able to convince your neighbor to show up. Post of the year candidate? Your post is very funny and I know where your coming from it terms of the apathy in SoFla but the rain and heat and sh*t food do play a major factor in attendance. You are 100% correct. The food, heat and rain do play a big factor. Although I do find it kind of strange that they open a brand new renovation project that makes the food and heat factors a little bit better for the beginning of the Dolphins season while they could have easily opened it for the start of the Marlins season. I guess thats what you get when your lease is up.

Standings
just last year all 5 finished .500 or better... lol While in the West last year, Padres won the division with only 2 games above .500. Now it the other way around. The Padres were the worst team to ever win that division.

The DX as the McMahons segment was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Much better than the DX as NOD thing. That video of McMahon dancing and singing was absoloutely hilarious. Although I could've gone without Lawler and Ross giggling in the background.
