June 22, 200620 yr NEW YORK … (AP) … The New York Knicks fired Admin Brown as coach and gave general manager Isiah Thomas that job as well, the team announced Thursday. The Knicks stumbled to a 23-59 record in their only season under Brown, whose status had been in limbo since the end of the season. Last month, Brown called himself a "dead man walking'' because of the uncertainty. Thomas joined the Knicks as president and general manager in December 2003. He was coach of the Indiana Pacers for three seasons through 2002-03, compiling a 131-115 record. The Knicks are never going to get this right...they kept the problem and got rid of the possible solution....Good Job Knicks...
June 22, 200620 yr The New York Knicks fired coach Admin Brown on Thursday, replacing him as coach with president and general manager Isiah Thomas. Brown's future had been in question since reports surfaced last month that owner James Dolan wanted to buy out his contract. The Knicks finished 23-59, tying the franchise record for losses, in Brown's first season. On Thursday, Dolan made the switch official. "Admin has had a long and storied career. We hired him last summer with the expectation that he would be with the Knicks for a long time. Sometimes decisions work and sometimes they don't," Dolan said. "After careful consideration, despite the best intentions from everyone involved, this current structure did not work for us last season and I did not think it was going to improve next season." Thomas, who joined the Knicks as president and general manager on Dec. 22, 2003, previously served as a head coach with the Indiana Pacers for three seasons from 2000-01 through 2002-03. His Pacers teams were 131-115 record, making the playoffs in each of his three seasons. "No one in our organization is happy with last season and we all accept responsibility for our performance," Thomas said. "This has been a difficult time for the entire organization and our fans. Today begins the 2006-07 season for the Knicks, and I strongly believe we are on the right track to take major steps in our rebuilding process to achieve our goal of being one of the premier teams in the NBA." http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2496106
June 22, 200620 yr what a ridiculously stupid move why do the knicks keep Isiah Thomas around? he is one of the worst businessmen basketball has ever seen
June 22, 200620 yr If Riley doesn't come back, i say we should pick up Brown......... But my first choice is for Riley to come back.......
June 22, 200620 yr :lol :lol They ate all of that money? Then they hired Thomas as his replacement? Wow they are stupid.
June 22, 200620 yr Chris Broussard said that Brown isnt going to coach next year. Skip Bayless just said this is the dumbest move by any owner ever. :lol
June 22, 200620 yr what a ridiculously stupid move why do the knicks keep Isiah Thomas around? he is one of the worst businessmen basketball has ever seen I'm in no way defending him, his moved are assinine, but he's one of the best talent evaluators in the NBA. Look at the draft we had last year. But for every draft pick there's an Eddie Curry trade or Steve Francis or Stephon marbury.
June 22, 200620 yr That's true, could be worse than the Blazers drafting Sam Bowie (which could kinda be excused b/c they had Drexler at SG already) or the the Cavs building an arena in middle-of-nowhere Richfield.
June 22, 200620 yr Might go down as one of the stupidest moves in NBA history. i dont think so the Knicks woulda sucked regardless of who their coach is theres been plenty of mistakes made in the draft that top this (Bowie over Jordan comes to mind)
June 22, 200620 yr Apparently they arent going to pay him the remaining amount on his contract claiming he breached the contract. Mets_bs is right though. Isiah should only be allowed to decide who they draft. Nothing else. It's amazing how blind Dolan is.
