Flags of Our Fathers/Letters From Iwo Jima

That is a huge cast. Some folks are calling it the next Saving Private Ryan. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Let's see...

Paul Walker, Ken Wantabe, Ryan Phillipe, Barry Pepper (Private Ryan alum), Robert Patrick, Jesse Bradford

Any other notables?

Adam Beach (Windtalkers, Joe Dirt, Smoke Signals)

Neal McDonough (Band of Brothers, Minority Report)

Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot)

David Patrick Kelly (The Warriors, 48 Hours, Commando, The Crow, Twin Peaks, K-Pax)

I went ahead and renamed this thread so we can discuss both movies here as to avoid repetition and to combine information

Here is a joint trailer for the films, it is from the Japanese site:

It looks visually amazing. I can't wait for this.

The trailer gave me the chills.

Looks like Eastwood is getting another Oscar.

Isn't the other title supposed to be "Red Sun, Black Sand?"

Everything new I've seen on it has the title renamed it and the Japanese title for the Japanese film translates to 'Letters from Iwo Jima'.

I saw this trailer, and it does look disappointing. I would prefer not to see a bunch of WWII vets committing suicide, especially since my grandfather is a former WWII pilot.

I hope Clint Eastwood doesn't ruin what could be the greatest movie of all time and turn it into some depressing sh*tty drama.

FoOF is more drama than war movie.

Much more character oriented.

Clint Eastwood could never ruin anything. That is quite impossible.

-Opening battle scene is a near carbon copy of Saving Private Ryan

How is that a bad thing?? They were both beach landings, of course they're going to be similar.

I think the first half of the movie is going to be awesome, spectacular, and an instant classic... but the second half when they do all the drama bulls*** is going to be awful.

Presnell was in like what, 8 minutes total (if that) in SPR?

That's not alot. Not enough to even be distracting or noticeable.

Saw it. Should've seen The Prestige.

Too choppy and seemed to go nowhere at times. Plus I thought the ending was rushed after the middle kind of dragged.

Wasn't terrible, but definitely not a memorable movie.
