July 15, 200619 yr We recommend that you grade your movie in whatever scale you wish to use. Ex. Batman Begins - 10/10 - [Description] Spoilers are no longer allowed in this thread.
July 15, 200619 yr I saw You, Me, and Dupree tonight and I thought it was absolutely hysterical. I'm a big Owen Wilson fan, as I've always loved his whole whimsical world view, and he's in top form in this movie. Almost none of the other character's are even important, although Kate Hudson is charming as hell, and you really want to like her character throughout. Still, Owen Wilson, as in most movies he is in is the driving force, and he really does just steal the stage. And unlike most movies about the man child facing the real world, he stays the same throughout the movie, contiously believing in the good in everyone. I'd give it a 7/10, as it had a pretty crappy plot and for the most part, the cast was expendable, but the script was clever enough, and Owen Wilson particularly shines.
July 15, 200619 yr I also saw You, Me, and Dupree on Friday. Owen Wilson was the best part of the entire movie. You can't help loving his character, yet you feel for Matt Dillon and want to choke Wilson's character at various points in the plot. As Bob said, the plot was pretty crappy. But it is a comedy so we are not looking for a plot along the lines of "Life is Beautiful" or anything. Matt Dillon wasn't the right part for this. He played his part solidly enough that you wanted to choke Dupree and feel bad for Dillon. Kate Hudson does an alright job as well. But Owen Wilson as I said, played his part to a masterpiece. He was absolutely hilarious. Overall, I'd give it a 7/10 as well. Good movie to see with friends and have a good time.
July 16, 200619 yr Owen Wilson's character reminded me a lot of Bob from What About Bob. Unfortunately, Matt Dillon is no Richard Dreyfus, so it kind of lacked the spark of a What About Bob.
July 16, 200619 yr I saw this movie from Netflix last night. The movie chronicles the plot to assassinate the terrorists who killed the Israeli athletes at the Munich Games. I thought it was a new idea when I remembered I saw a TV movie with Steven Bauer called Sword of Gideon about the same subject. To me, the movie moved slowly at times, although it did show the wear and tear on a man's soul when he does this kind of job. I do wish they would have gotten into the more psychological aspect of the assignment. And there could have been more character development. Nice to see Daniel Craig- the blue-eyed pal of Lara Croft, Tombraider and newly named James Bond in this flik. I guess I expected more from Steven Speilberg. Eric Bana is great at anything he does. He is bendable-just like Russel Crowe. Eric doesn't put on a character- he inhabits him to the fullest. I am looking forward to many more movies with him at the helm. Munich 6/10 stars
July 17, 200619 yr I saw You, Me and Dupree tonight and was disappointed. I was under the impression that there would be a comedic aspect to this movie, and I was dead wrong. It earned a couple of chuckles from me, but never had me laughing and I was far from rolling.
July 17, 200619 yr I saw "You, Me and Dupree" on Saturday, and it wasn't as good as I thought. However, the reviewers bashing the movie were a little too harsh. It had it's moments, although for the most part they were at the beginning where Dupree 'makes himself at home'. After that the plot focuses more on the newlyweds and their marriage. Michael Douglas was great as Hudson's controlling father, and has some good moments when talking to Dillon at the office. There was also an appearance by Seth Rogan, who was in 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin", which was pretty funny. The best part has to be the dream sequence with Wilson, Douglas, and Hudson on Douglas' boat (which Dillon is imagining) where Lance Armstrong makes a cameo.
July 20, 200619 yr Author Clerks. - 7.5/10 - Okay, sue me. This was the first time I've ever seen this movie and I have to say I enjoyed it. I can definately see why it's considered a cult classic. Randal is definately more intresting than his friend, Dante. You just don't expect those things to come out of his mouth. Some of the plot lines were kind of disturbing. I felt like the movie didn't achieve much story-wise (umm yeah I'm going to hop on a train, tell you I love you and f*ck a dead guy) but all in all it was entertaining. You can always tell when you've seen a good movie when you don't look at your watch.
July 21, 200619 yr Yeah, I'm watching Clerks now. I love this movie. It doesn't have any plot to speak of, but the dialogue more than makes up for it.
July 22, 200619 yr Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Finally saw it today after planning to see it on opening weekend. Very good I actually like this one better then the first. Better storyline, better enemy, and much better action sequences. The action sequences were so entertaining...over the top and ridiculous and combine humor and adventure in them really well. The final battle scene that started with Jack, William, and Norrington and evolved into what it was is one of the most entertaining scenes you'll find in a movie. I absolutely loved the ending and can't wait to see what the 3rd one brings. 8/10
July 22, 200619 yr Author My Super Ex-Girlfriend Terrible. The story really, really sucked. There was absolutely no humor whatsoever. Luke Wilson and Anna Faris were horrible casting desicions for these roles. Luke Wilson sucks at being inferior and I can not picture Anna Faris as a smart person (Scary Movie franchise and Hot Chick, Hello?). Wanda Sykes character was pointless and her lines seemed kind of forced into the screenplay. Uma Thurman was great but couldn't they come up with another name for her superhero? G-Girl, give me a break. Rainn Wilson was just okay in his role as Luke's best friend, however, it was so hard to like him (and I'm a regular viewer of The Office). Once again, the story really, really sucked. 3/10 - Uma's exotic undies brings it up a notch or two.
July 22, 200619 yr it was so hard to like him (and I'm a regular viewer of The Office). That's probably why it was so hard to like him :lol . Clerks 2 was awesome. Hysterical, with a surprising amount of heart. I guess Kevin Smith is getting soft in his old age, although there's a donkey out there that would disagree. 9/10 (but I'm a Kevin Smith fan boy.)
July 23, 200619 yr Saw Clerks II tonight...hilarious. Probably the best comedy I've seen a good while. Some of the scenes had me rolling 8/10
July 23, 200619 yr Just saw You, Me, and Dupree Good for a few laughs, but the movie/bad plot kind of pissed me off. Probably a movie that is better to rent. Definitely thought it was going to be a lot funnier. 5.5/10
July 28, 200619 yr Clerks II Saw it tonight. I liked it alot. I don't think it was as funny as the original and I still prefer Mallrats and the aformentioned Clerks to this one as far as the View Askewniverse goes. I came in expecting more great Randal/Dante dialogue and definitely got it. I thought Elias was a great character, too bad we won't get to see more of him. Rosario Dawson was such a good addition to the cast as well. It's hard to really wrap up a movie series/collection like this and she brought a lot to the table in terms of comedy and storyline. Few A-list actresses, if any, would have done a film like this but you can tell shes more real then alot of celebs and was a fan of Kevin Smith's work and was down for the film and I'm glad she was. It wasn't as funny as I thought it was going to be and some of the dialogue was long winded and I would have rather seen the running time extended if only for more laughs but while also cutting out some of the 'love story'. Didn't really care for the soundtrack either. Overall a good film, got what I expected and it wraps things up well. 7/10
July 29, 200619 yr Lady in the Water Ok, first of all...I get why the critics were so harsh. It's an unbelievable tale of a 'narf' who is chased by a 'scrank' (or whatever the name is). The characters are too easily convinced that the 'legend' is true, blah blah blah. But down to the nitty gritty, it was an enjoyable flick with many 'scary' moments. I thought the depth of some scenarios was great, and Shyamalan managed to keep the story fluid and entertaining. I think Paul Giammatti is an amazing actor (he pulled off quite a believable stutter); and M. Night didn't do that bad as an actor. There was some subtle irony and humor within the storyline that the average person might not catch (the film critic had a couple of those moments), and I thought the creativity was definitely there--albeit far too convenient. Overall, I give it a 6.5/10. Not my favorite Shyamalan flick, but it definitely beats 'The Village'.
August 8, 200619 yr Finally watched Inside Man I really enjoyed the movie. The acting was great. Cast was awesome. Denzel is my hero. There was just something about it that left me wanting more. Not really sure what it was. The ending was just kind of flat if that makes any sense. Just a little anti-climatic I guess. Don't get me wrong it was still well done, just not 'great'. Definitely an entertaining film though. Everyone should check it out 7.5/10
August 10, 200619 yr World Trade Center So I fell into the emotional trap and decided to see it. I don't know what I expected, but this movie was certainly a tear jerker at points. I was extremely happy that they didn't get overly graphic, and even more impressed that they barely focused on the plane attacks themselves. Most of the movie is a series of back-and-forths between the cops and their respective families. The tone of the movie wasn't morbid at all, but the sense of loss and pain was definitely there (obviously). I think Oliver did a great job handling the story with delicacy and sincerity. I had to choke on a couple of tears, and I would recommend this movie to those that are interested in a true story of survival, hope, love and courage. I think to tell this story without glorifying anything was immensely difficult--but Stone did America proud. Nice acting all around by the 'big named' actors. Cage, Gyllenhaal, Hernandez, and even Steven Dorff made realistic portrayals. Maria Bello almost has a 'vacant' personality in this movie, but I didn't even mind. Michael Pena, I think, did the best acting in this film. It was, by far, his biggest role in a movie and he took it and ran IMO. I give this movie an 8.5/10
August 10, 200619 yr Why can't we review pirated or bootleg stuff? Is that relevant to the review? That being said, good idea for a forum.
August 12, 200619 yr Last night I watched the faux-history movie CSA: The Confederate States of America. Basically it is presented like one of those TV history programs, complete with commercials. Produced by Spike Lee, this movie showcases a potential alternate history of this country, where the South won the Civil War with European assistance. This changes the future considerably, where the new CSA becomes a world power that takes over Central and South America in order to establish an empire. It shows how history went in this timeline from the end of the Civil War to present day, and how vastly different things might have been if the South had been able to get that British and French assistance they sought. The commercials inbetween are for what were actual products that existed at one point or another, and are blatantly racist. At the end of the film, the historically accurate parts are explained to the viewer, to make things a little bit more disturbing. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys history, or has an interest in race-relations. At 90 mins long, it's a nice, short film. Rating: 9/10

Rating: 9/10 I'm intrigued, but I don't know if I'm intrigued enough to check it out yet. Keep in mind, I'm of the persuasion who thinks that Spike Lee makes two kinds of movies: Good movies and really bad movies. I would say my favorite Spike Lee Joint is Bamboozled. I own the DVD and have viewed it five times or more. The various threads of this movie seem similar to Bamboozled. So, maybe I'll check it out... Decisions, decisions. Edit: sees this move was merely produced, not directed, by Lee. My B. Argh, decisions, decisions, though. 20 buckaroos on Amazon and I'm considering it. (does online price comparison)
August 12, 200619 yr Why can't we review pirated or bootleg stuff? Is that relevant to the review? That being said, good idea for a forum. It could have something to do with the fact that pirated material is theft. :whistle

If I saw a pirated version of, say, Talladega Nights, and don't mention in my review, who gives a sh*t? I thought the vernacular was merely funny, but you've tried to turn this into another religious theft of holy art crusade.
August 12, 200619 yr You should just rent CSA, I don't know if you would want to watch it more than maybe twice. It's up to you.
August 12, 200619 yr You should just rent CSA, I don't know if you would want to watch it more than maybe twice. It's up to you. I'm a serial buyer. I have a thing about ownership. Purchases are usually based on a scale of my judgement based on actor, director and material as well as my interest in it. I usually take a couple of chances per year on DVD purchases and this might be one of those chances. I'll find a way to see it, though, in some fashion. :mischief2
