July 30, 200620 yr I got an engagement present from my buddy who is from Atlanta (goes to school with me) and he flew me out to Atlanta friday and we got a chance to catch the Braves-Mets game on Saturday. I'm happy to see baseball just about anywhere but after being to Turner I now only have Dolphin Stadium and the Skydome left of all the parks on the east coast that I haven't seen yet. I was really suprised by how much I liked Turner. I always thought it would be generic as hell and just a solid early 90s park in the mold of it's counterparts that were built at the same time. It's a really good park. It looks great, they open the park 2 and a half hours early (more parks should do this) and they have a good museum inside the park that only costs a dollar. I ate at the Chop House which is inside the park and for the money and the fact that you can sit down before the game and get served, get a bigger and better quality portion for your money I reccomend eating there instead of in the concession stands and then just get your beer or soda during the game. Here are some pictures from the stadium. I wasn't used to this camera so alot of the shots are off centered and at a slant. It was a fun time and if you have a chance to catch a game here definitely do it.
July 30, 200620 yr Glad you enjoyed your time at Turner. Ive seen several Marlins series there and I always have a real nice time. The fans there are pretty cool too and dont give me and my brother too much steam for wearing our Marlins jersey's. We usually sit in the visitors side dugout seats but we have sat (stood actually) in the $1 standing room only seats way out (and up) in left field. Now if they would only retire the chop............
July 30, 200620 yr Author Now if they would only retire the chop............ Agreed. They do it too much. Down 7-8 runs and they are still doing it repeatedly. :banghead
July 30, 200620 yr Awesome pictures Passion. Thanks for taking the time to writeup the thread. I think it's really cool how teams with history keep parts of the old park around in what seems like random places outside the stadium (if that makes any sense). I think one of my favorite looks at the newer built ballparks is the brick that is being used for the outside construction. Out of curiosity just how annoying is it to watch a game with all that chop crap going on? Thanks for sharing again!
July 30, 200620 yr Author It's not really annoying as much as just stupid and it seems to me to make their fan base seem out of the game when they are still doing that 'rally cry' in improbable situations. The crowd was fine but I don't think they are into the game much. It's not a lively crowd even when the game was tied or while they were briefly ahead.
July 30, 200620 yr Awesome pictures, man. Hope you had fun. Now if they would only retire the chop............ :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup One of the most annoying gimmicks ever. I'd rather listen to peanut man for the remainder of my life then have to listen and see the chop. Very annoying.
July 30, 200620 yr Great pics...thanks for posting em. I'm glad you had a good time. Turner looks like a nice place. I wouldn't mind visiting there someday.
July 30, 200620 yr Nice pics :thumbup I'm definitely going to stop by that museum when I go to Turner (hopefully next summer).
July 30, 200620 yr Miri and I went a couple of years ago and I agree, it really is a great place to watch a game.
July 30, 200620 yr The Dolphin Stadium scoreboards are better. :hat Ive been to the old Braves stadium, Fulton County Stadium, I havent been up to Turner Field yet.
July 30, 200620 yr The Dolphin Stadium scoreboards are better. :hat Ive been to the old Braves stadium, Fulton County Stadium, I havent been up to Turner Field yet. Actually they're not. You'll see when you go to Atlanta. In this one instance, bigger is not better. :mischief
July 30, 200620 yr I have been to Fulton County Stadium once, and Turner Field twice. I LOVE Turner Field. The people are really nice out there. Max and I were there for a random game against the Mets. We were in our Marlins gear and the usher was talking to us about the Marlins, asking how we like Atlanta, etc. I would like to go back and see the new screen.
July 31, 200620 yr I was at Turner field 5-6 years ago. Awesome stadium to go to. Probably one of the better parks that I've been to. I agree with you in that I aws expecting a cookie cutter park, but was a lot better than I expected. I'd like to go back sometime in the near future. Thanks for sharing the pics and congrats on the engagement.
August 1, 200620 yr I love TF. Probably one of the greatest baseball expirences as far as the new ballparks go. ITs no Yankee Stadium, but its #2 on my list (of 5 including Fulton County) of ballparks, and ahead of Dolphin Stadium for sure. You really brought back memories. I just wish that the stadium was in a city where the fans were more into the game! BTW, did you see the Chris and Drew gameshow? My friend is Chris. Also, do they still have the Bravo Club...some good winnings when I lived in Atlanta! You almost always won instantly! We usually sit in the visitors side dugout seats but we have sat (stood actually) in the $1 standing room only seats way out(and up) in left field. the Sky Field section to me is amazing. I got to take a tour of the stadium when nobody was there and got to enjoy a nice view of the Atlanta skyline. Not only that, but there is real grass up there, misty fans, and a mock 1st base line for the kids to run. Plus the grass is on an incline so you can picnic. And, with that $1 ticket, you can walk around the whole park and stand in concourses and see the different views! My seats were usually in the 200 level along the 1st base line...great seats and you just walked upstairs when it rains and watched from the concourse which is covered and still has a view. That or you sit in the top 10 rows...and you even can watch on the little TV. I also sat in the outfield once, and as far as outfield seats go, it was not as good as DS, but it was still a good seat! One of the guys who worked in the mail room at my dads office was Ted Turner's usher...got one autograph there (Javy Lopez' and it faded!) and got to sit in Ted Turners seats on many occasions! QUOTE(TheDon @ Jul 30 2006, 11:16 AM) Now if they would only retire the chop............ Agreed. They do it too much. Down 7-8 runs and they are still doing it repeatedly. They used to do it less. When Turner Field opened, they considered retiring it...but instead they gradually did it more and added different versions!
