Players to get rid of

"Amezaga's one of those scrappy players that you hate to play against but love to have on your team"--Rich Waltz

I like him.

You love to have him on your team if you love a player who can't bring in runs when they are right there for the taking and can't play good defense.

yep :thumbup

Amezaga. What good is a utility player that is below average at defense? He is far below average at outfield defense, too short to be a decent first basemen, and the weak arm hurts at third and short.

yeah...that chone figgins guy sucks...AA is our chone and this is his first chance at legit playing time...and again...not a starter...but a valuable bench guy...and if you cant see that...then im glad you arent the marlins GM

Chone Figgins is infinitely better than Amezaga. Figgins can play the outfield - well. Amezaga can't play the outfield worth a damn. Basically you're looking at a utility infielder with a weak arm who can hardly hit. Alright! :plaindance

when i see you do it better, ill believe you...until then...ill stick with rich waltz and my own opinion of an extremely valuable bench player...he is like alex cora that can play the outfield and switch hit

so you started out with a comparison to chone figgins, and now you are down to an alex cora comparison

amezaga's similar to both of them, not necessarily equivalent

Might I introduce you to Andy Fox and Damien Easley?

He's 2-24 this year as a righty. Hell of a switch-hitter. He's not much better for his career from the right side. He plays the outfield with the ability of a high school jv player.

maybe this is why andy fox doesn't have a job

Andy Fox suck(s)(ed). Damion has pop in the bat.

And neither was necessarily Fox. Yet they were servicable if not very good utility players for us. Oh, and Amezaga has a higher average and on base percentage than Easley did. To call him not worthy of consideration of such a role is incredible.

Amezaga's defense is fine. He doesn't get the best reads off the bat in the outfield, but what else do you expect from someone who has been an infielder his entire career?

Over time, he is bound to improve in that area and become a solid outfielder. He can play well defensively at short and second. He isn't your prototypical corner infielder, but he can play there if neccessary.

he's a very good utility player. alot like pablo ozuna for the chi-sox last year. the poor-man figgins comparison is also a good one. poor man's being the key word...figgins is a legit every day player, fredo is not.

it's not incredible...it's absolutley idiotic.

people just dislike him because he isn't a starting centerfielder and that's the role he's being forced into, simply out of neccessity.

as a bench player he is invaluable. his defensive versatility, speed and..at the very least...decent hitting ability make him an excellent role player.

As I was discussing today with the Marlins radio guys, if Amezaga was a 1, 2 tops a week, I wouldnt have a problem with him

but I cant stand the fact we are starting him 5-6-7 times a week

is it his fault he's forced into starting?

he's a utility player whos in the lineup every day..

I agree, he is one of the worst CF's in baseball. But as a ulility player, he's probably one of the best guys around you could have coming off your bench. he's hitting over .300 against righties, so if you need someone to get on base he would be the first guy you bring up as a PH. He can play any position, so he would also be convenient for the manager and a double switch. he's fast, so he can pinch run...and best of all, he plays for peanuts.

He'll be back next year, and i'm glad he will because he's an excellent role player. our bench is one of our biggest assets right now. Helms is a great corner-infield bench player...Borchard brings a power threat...Ross is streaky, but a solid 4th outfielder (IMO, anyway). Add in Amezaga next year if we can add a true starting CF...

no, it's not his fault he is starting and I doubt he is back next year...

just because I think a team will offer him over what we would offer him
