News and information about the new stadium thread

Featured Replies

No one cares if Joe from Palm Beach wants the stadium in Hialeah, or if Moe from Kendal wants it in Miami, or Admin prefers it elsewhere. I don't care about traffic patterns at 6 pm. I don't give a darn about how long it takes anybody to go anywhere, or how far is this place from that place.

No ranting or raving will change the minds of the powers-to-be about where the new stadium will be built or if it will have a roof, an umbrella or a huge hat.

The only thing I want to read here is information regarding the progress of any deals from the people that actually have some kind of actual knowledge about the subject.

I think I speak for most of the members of this board.

That is why I started this thread

Thanks

Great post above.

Today is a big day for the Marlins even though they are not on the field.

Well, I spoke with my friend at MLB and my guy at the Marlins and here's what I've learned:

This down-town site is the preference of MLB.

It is the preference of the Marlins to not own the stadium and simply rent time there, so as to let others deal with maintenance costs.

The Marlins believe that if they can break ground on or around New Years '07, they can be into the stadium by 2009 (ambitious).

MLB will not allow the Marlins to leave South Florida.

MLB will now attempt to broker a meeting/peace between Miami and the Marlins.

Finally, the Marlins have grown less interested in Hialeah because of complaints/concerns voiced from MLB.

That's all for now...

Thanks Swift.

But who are they kidding about getting the park done in 27 months?

That's what I said. The Marlins think it can be done.

Also forgot to mention that my MLB guy also is a little concerned about the speed with which the Marlins think this can be completed on the negotiations end; he used Washington and the Twins as examples of the glacial pace for stadium negotiations.

Thanks Swift.

Yeah, why would MLB want to do anything at a quick, efficient pace? :confused

Thanks Swift.

It really depends on a) who supervises construction and b) what is built.

Alot of the larger, more complex components will have to be engineered (as in design, wind and stress-tested because of unique weather conditions here, etc.) and fabricated. The more they can approximate an already existing structure (let's say MinuteMaid for example) the quicker it can be built.

It will be interesting to see if it is in fact Miami, who get's control over construction, once a primary demand of the Marlins. The worst thing that could happen is either the city or county builds it ad you have another PAC on your hands, with mega-cost-overruns.

My info supports Tswifts info as well.

Broker is putting it nicely.

"Finally, the Marlins have grown less interested in Hialeah because of complaints/concerns voiced from MLB."

Hialeah is not on the table.

BTW as Marlin fans nobody should say anything but good things about what the mayor of Hialeah has tried to do IMO.

Big Day. :whistle

Good Points on construction 2003. Also the small site will not help on construction time.

The Nationals expect their stadium to be open for the 2008 season. When did they start construction?

Big day as in possible press conference later today or big day as in we'll agree to meet again if things go well(I think we are all tired of that type of big day)?

Also, I totally agree with you about the Mayor of Hialeah. No matter if the stadium is eventually built in Miami, Hialeah would deserve a huge amount of credit. It seems as though they were the ones that kept the whole situation from completely falling apart when the OB deal died. If/when the Marlins do get a new stadium, I hope Robina gets the recoginition he deserves.

a stadium can be built in 24-27 months considering the year round construction weather in miami-dade...hell the nats want to open up their place in 2008

it can be done and it isnt crazy, especially if it's a roofless stadium

Thanks Swift.

Typically, I agree with you letting the county or city handle construction. But, if Loria only wants to rent it, then the governing body is not going to let him dictate and run construction. Loria doesnt know who he has to provide the kickbacks to, the city does. Seriously, the issue is do you want to let Samson run the construction? This could be a big fun filled fiasco in the making.

Thanks Swift.

good points

I doubt the Marlins can have it both ways (not own the place and run the construction project)

I emailed the editor of the Ballpark Digest site about the story written yesterday (the one that created an argument at the other thread). He responded to me last night and is sticking with the story, saying that his sources on this issue are "impeccable". You can believe it or not but that is what he says.

Oh, and I will post the link to the Local10 story from yesterday again, just to get people up to speed on what we were talking about:

No offense to anyone in here, but I would rate the editor of Ballpark Digest as more reliable than a random Internet poster on a message board, but nonetheless he gets his "scoops" wrong quite frequently, and on top of that he never owns up to his mistakes (that I have seen).

That being said, the site is a good clearinghouse for ballpark articles and reviews of stadiums.

My blog tries to stay away from unpublished rumors and to keep track of the current events and documents in the ballpark project.

We try to get articles, videos, and documents like County Memos up there for people to read.

You loser.

Seeing the PAC take years and havea ll tehse problems (both time-wise and financially) it doesn't make me feel good about a stadium built with the same people in charge.

Was there anyone but one commissioner who mentioned building downtown without a roof, and then only as a possibility?

I haven't anything else that really even suggested that as a possibility.

this is very true, that should be kept in mind when reading ballpark digest

The roof comment came from the channel 10 article. Although the comment was not totally accurate I can say there is something to it.

Think compromise.......

gobucks, who has been on the money about the city of miami for a few months now, pointed out there is breaking news in the wplg article. a few posters including myself pointed out the only thing that would be considered breaking news in the article was the roofless stadium comment. gobucks proceeded to quote me and responded with a :whistle smilee.

that is where the roofless stadium talk began

the only compromise i can think of is building a stadium with a dome and adding the components to making it retractable later on when funds are allocated.

Maybe this was discussed and I missed it someplace, but wouldn't the more rational compromise be to build a stadium without a roof and add it later than to build one with a roof that doesn't move only to make it move later?

I don't set the realities....just tell you what they are.
