September 2, 200619 yr vargas has a future with this team because he is lefty, no other reason...if he can ever prove on a regular basis that he can get guys out, he will be with the big team, until then, he is scrub who lefty who cant get guys out...and guys who cant get anyone out, i dont want a part of this staff, no matter how much anyone argues for him or puts up pointless stats(see abercrombie)...plain and simpley, if a guy sucks...you can tell...and it doesnt take someone getting paid for their opinion to tell you that...quite simply...if i had my way...i would have nothing to do with abercrombie, resop, messenger, mitre and vargas...they have proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that they arent major league players...are they the best guys on your back yard wiffleball league, sure...but they arent major league...some people need to get over that already

September 2, 200619 yr At the beginning of the year, all Marlin fans thought this would be a year to evaluate talent. All? Not this fan. I picked (bet) them to win the WS back at the end of March. Reasons: 1. 2nd best record in spring training. 2. Lowest RA (runs against) in spring training. Pitching wins championships. 3. A front office that has won the WS twice in the last 10 years. Yeah, they're jerks but they seem to know what they're doing. 4. A young team that wouldn't be sucking wind/getting hurt in Aug. & Sept. like a lot of older teams. 5. A team that never had a losing season before. Like the general in "The Battle of the Bulge" said of his green troops: "They have never tasted defeat." 6. Crazy odds!!!
September 2, 200619 yr NO FUTURE: Reggie Abercrombie Cody Ross Joe Borchard Wes Helms Matt Treanor Chris Aguila Eric Reed Brian Moehler Matt Herges Joe Borowski Randy Messenger Jason Vargas Sergio Mitre Jeff Fulchino I disagree on most of these guys. All can or will have a future and can be productive, it's just a matter of their roles being figured out. Reggie, Cody, and Borchard all have made meaningful contributions to the team at different times, whether it was last night's go ahead/game winning HR, doing the same for 2 runs off Roger Clemens, etc. I don't think any of the 3 should be the full time CF, so maybe we don't have room for all of them. But you can't treat them like they're not a part of the team's success when they've scored a lot of meaningful runs to tie or win games. We've seen what Moehler can do in long relief when he came in for Ricky a week ago. He can be effective in the right role. I'd like to think the same of Vargas & Mitre, but they both need to find consistency. Both of them have shown ability in the past. Consistency and finding a role though is what they need - be it as the lefty specialist or the mop-up/blow-out guy. And did Fulchino even really get a fair look? I can't even remember seeing him in more than one or two games. And I don't remember him getting lit up bad either. And Helms and Borowski have a future, either here or elsewhere, just depends on what they want. Helms has been easily our best clutch pinch hit option time and time again, and I really don't think that's too easy to find. And Borowski has done his job - 31/35 saves. That's almost half of our 66 wins this season.
