9/2, 7:05 PM - Marlins(66-68) at Milwaukee (62-73)

Recommended Posts

If the Marlins are going to extend the Milwaukee Brewers' losing streak to nine games on Saturday night, they are going to have to beat ace Ben Sheets for the second time in a week.

Sheets and Josh Johnson will be square off for the second time in six days when the teams play the second game of their three-game series at Miller Park.

"The one guy that I saw in their rotation a lot was Ben Sheets," Florida manager Joe Girardi said of his days as a player. "He's got great stuff."

The Marlins have won 10 of 12 and are hoping to remain in the National League Wild Card race. Johnson will play a big part if Florida is to stay close.

The rookie right-hander leads the National League with a 2.87 ERA, is tied for fourth with a .667 winning percentage, and has held opponents to a .230 batting average. He beat Sheets on Monday, holding the Brewers to two runs on eight hits and no walks, while striking out seven in 7 2/3 innings.

Miller Park will be at capacity, or close to it, on Saturday night. All fans attending will receive a Robin Yount bobblehead doll.

Pitching matchup

FLA: RHP Josh Johnson (12-6, 2.87 ERA)

Johnson is 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA in his last three road starts. In those starts, he has pitched 20 innings, giving up only 13 hits and six walks while striking out 16. He has held opponents to a .191 batting average in that span.

MIL: RHP Ben Sheets (4-6, 4.62 ERA)

Sheets has pitched at least seven innings in his last four starts, but has struggled due to a lack of run support against the Marlins in his career. He is 1-3 with a 2.57 ERA in his last five starts against Florida, and just 2-4 in his career.

Player to watch

Laynce Nix, a former second-round draft choice of the Texas Rangers, is getting regular playing time in Milwaukee. Obtained in the trade that sent Carlos Lee to Texas in July, Nix homered on Friday night in the ninth off Florida closer Joe Borowski.

Washington beats Arizona, 7-6 (first of two).

Braves over Phils, 4-3 (also first half of double header).

Yeah, and the Phillies blew a save and lost in the ninth and Arizona blew it in the ninth and lost in extras. Heartbreakers....Hopefully we can take advantage.

Agreed this is a must win. Hopefully the reds wins their game and we do the same.
