Brighthouse Networks

Featured Replies

After joining these forums I realized that I'm not the only Marlins fan who can't watch their team. In order to watch them, I would have to sign a huge contract for a satelite provider, since I'm in an MLB.tv blackout area. Being a college student, that is out of the question. The only cable provider up in the 407 happens to be Brighthouse Networks, who for some reason do not offer FSN Florida. This happens to be very frustrating being that most of us are Marlins fans up here, not Devil Rays.

Being that this is a forum with many Orlando fish-atics, I came up with an idea. Do you all believe that it is possible to petition to Brighthouse in order to get them to start carrying FSN Florida? Because if it is possible, I would gladly head it up with any support. Let me know what you all think.

I'm under the impression that it is mostly FSN that is causing the problems in Orlando, not Brighthouse. But overall, it sucks.

FSN Florida is a basic cable channel that charges a certain amount for itself per subscriber. ($2-3 usually)

Bright House Networks, like Time Warner before it, refuses to carry and pay for FSN Florida. They want to put it on Digital Cable. FSN is not a digital channel and almost every other cable company carries and pays for it as a regular cable network.

Once Sun Sports' contract with Bright House is done, FSN/SUN will go to the table as one and you can bet Bright House will add FSN or risk losing the Magic, Gators, and Golden Knights games SUN has and risk alienating even more people and having them go with Dish or DirecTV.

Melbourne saw a bunch of this when they wouldn't add FSN after the Marlins moved.

the most helpful post of all time. when does the contact run out?

Not sure....the last time Time Warner (now BHN) pulled Sunshine Network (now Sun Sports) until the new contract was signed back in early 2003. That was before News Corp. got FSN Florida from Cablevision.

I would say it happens sooner rather than later.

It could also happen the next time Time Warner and WOFL FOX 35 or WRBW My65 come up for negotiations for must carry.

In other words, the days of no FSN in Orlando's Bright House are numbered. The big FOX machine will strike at BHN with fury....if BHN doesn't sell out first.

Bright house Networks is a very fusturating cable company when it comes to Marlins Games.

I was in Orlando in 2003 going to school, and when I called BHN about FSN, the consversation went a little like this:

BHN: Hello, How can I help you

ME : Uh, when I signed up, you guys said you carried FSN.

BHN: Whats FSN, I've never heard of it.

ME : Fox... Sports... Net...

BHN: I'm sorry, I not sure what that is

ME : The channel the Florida Marlins play 95 of thier games on.

And even now, they are still being a little screwy. BHN in Citrus County Florida does carry FSN and shows marlins games on the channel. But... They don't show Marlins games on SUN even though they provide the channel too. But... if you go over the other side of the River into Levy County, Adelphia shows the games on SUN. WTH. Luckily, I live in Levy County. I dunno, I hate Brighthouse.

I am also a central-floridian who is a victim of BHN. We are totally Marlins-less here. I have followed them on the internet from day one of spring training. That needs to change! Thanks for the posting it gives me hope

I'm sure if we petition we can sway BHN to add FSN Florida when the SUNsports contract expires. I'll see what I can do.

Edit: This is the statement I came up with. Please add to or edit so we can get this underway.

"We, the sports fans of central Florida, wish that Brighthouse Networks include Fox Sports Network Florida in their cable packages. As fans of teams such as the Florida Marlins, the Florida State Seminoles, the Florida Gators, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, we are unable to these games on a regular basis. Since Brighthouse Networks does not offer FSN Florida, we are in short prohibited from viewing these teams and their games. Brighthouse Networks offers services to over 800,000 homes in the Orlando/Daytona/Melbourne region, and all of these areas are without programming they would be entitled to anywhere else. The undersigned thank everyone and anyone who participates with their support for a better sports experience."

I live in the Cocoa Beach area and the primary reason I am not a Brighthouse customer is because FSN is not offered. I am subscribed to directv and I do get all of the marlins games that are shown either on FSN or on Sun Sports. In your petition I would suggest mentioning that there are quite a few of us in the affected region that are satellite customers and would consider switching to cable if FSN were to be included.

Believe me,a bunch of the Gators tried to do this cause FSN also shows Gator basketball games and it didn't help, and there are a lot more Gator fans in central Florida than there are Marlin fans. Hopefully with the Gators looking to repeat in Bball, they will decide to add FSN for our poor souls in C.Florida.

Heck if we could get those games on the air that would be fantastic... but some of the local sports bars up here do get Fox Sports net. I know Smokey Bones does... and there a BBQ place.

haha great idea, i go to UCF too, sophomore though. what year are you?

Wow this stinks. Try and get national attention. Spam ESPN with e-mails about how Marlins fans don't get games. The Marlins are the en vouge thing to talk about right now and ESPN always needs filler stories.

I just started a thread on that board asking if they did. I didn't care much about it since I didnt move to Orlando untill late October last year and I got to see 95% of the games last year in Salt Lake City thanks to MLB.com.
