September 12, 200620 yr Derek Jeter does not deserve the MVP. I don't see how you can possibly make a case that Derek Jeter absolutely DOES NOT deserve the MVP. I feel 4-5 players are plenty deserving, and I could make a pretty rich case for any of them.
September 12, 200620 yr I'd take Morneau, Dye, or even Mauer over both Jeter and Ortiz. Papi does sound like he's whining a bit in this article and he apparently kinda disses his teammates with the lineup comment. red sox are still my 2nd favorite team by far.
September 12, 200620 yr Derek Jeter does not deserve the MVP. Your right....Morneau or Mauer do.... Hell no. There is a Twin that deserves MVP, but his name is Johan Santana. As for Papi, for him to imply his own lineup isn't that good is unfathomably stupid on his part, but the rest of what he said seems to be out of frusteration so I have little problem with it, unless he's actually naive enough to think he should be MVP. Jeter is going to win, but that's sad because Morneau, Mauer, Santana, Dye, Thomas, and Konerko are all more valuable.

I think a guy who goes an entire season without an extra base hit in "close and late" situations does not deserve the MVP. He's a good player having a good season but he's no MVP. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...amp;compare.y=8
September 12, 200620 yr Author To that, Jeter replied "I don't have to do it in his lineup." "I'm not thinking about the MVP right now," he told reporters Monday. "We're thinking about winning a division. We've still got something to play for." He then added, "No one here's focused on individual awards." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2584168 Zing.
September 12, 200620 yr Ortiz sounds real dumb for puttin the rest of his lineup under the bus...who gets on base for his homers??? Who represent all those RBI's he gets???
September 13, 200620 yr "It's already taken care of," said Ortiz. "[Jeter] knows me. He knows that sometimes some guys from [the media] make things sound the way they're not supposed to. Come on, dude. That guy is one of my favorite players. You never talk [negatively] about Derek Jeter, bro. It's wrong. That guy plays his [rear end] off." "It had nothing to do with Derek Jeter," said Ortiz. "Everything is all about Derek Jeter and I haven't mentioned Derek Jeter at all. I talk about guys who go for being an MVP candidate through the years in baseball history, and they always choose for home run and RBI guys, am I right or wrong?" http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/ne...sp&c_id=bos
September 13, 200620 yr So Ortiz made some questionable comments about the MVP race........ whats the big deal? from reading this thread you would think he was caught on video clubbing baby seals in Alaska.

By saying that "close and late" has no credibility are you saying that Jeter's pathetic performance in the 7th inning or later in one run or tied games over this entire season doesn't really matter?
September 13, 200620 yr When ESPN has the exact same statistic, yet Jeter has vastly better numbers in it, I'd consider that statistic to be disputed, thus the statistic is really up to inteperation. This causes the lack of credibility.

This causes the lack of credibility. The MLB and ESPN stats are different stats, they use different formulas. Just because they're different stats doesn't make the MLB stat meaningless and it doesn't give it a lack of credibility. I suggest you look up the MLB formula and then look up Jeter's stats under the MLB formula and what you'll find is that this season Jeter has been pathetic in the 7th inning or later in one run or tied games. If you think the MVP should go to a guy who choked all season long in the most clutch of situations that's fine with me.
