Coaches Poll is Out

Doesn't that show Florida as #2 in both polls?

The AP poll isn't a part of the BCS, the Harris poll is.

I'll go on the record and say that I hope USC wins tonight...UF just doesn't deserve to go to the title game this season

You are lame sir!

Anyways, I really hope Florida makes it. If Michigan goes to the title game (especially if they win), there should be riots against the BCS.

Florida is #2. I read where the computers will have Michigan #2. It's going to come down to the Harris Poll.

I think you read bad information. Supposedly the computers will have Florida #2. Florida will easily pass Michigan in the final BCS poll - as they should.

I heard it on ESPNEWS last night. Of course, I could have heard wrong.

Perhaps but not because of Michigan. The 2nd place team in a so-so (this year) conference has no valid claim to play in the title game.

Oh...how can I be expected to keep track of all this sh*t. I just assumed the Harris poll was the AP poll.

Why should Florida go instead of Michigan? Someone explain that one to me.

Florida lost to Auburn. Michigan lost to Ohio State.

Plus, Michigan's schedule was harder. I don't think anyone can dispute that, even if the SEC is a tough conference to play in.

I personally think if you lose a game you have no right to bitch about not going to the National Championship.

The fact that Boise State went undefeated and doesn't have the chance ot play for it all is a crime. You can say who did they beat all they want, but who did they lose to? Nobody. You can't say that about Florida and Michigan.

The system is a joke.

Florida played the toughest schedule in the country if you go by winning %.

Florida won its conference, Michigan didn't. Florida hasn't lost to Ohio State yet. Florida has a harder schedule, I think most people agree with that. I don't get how you "don't think anyone can dispute that."

It's Michigan's fault they played the best team in the country? What if Ohio State beat Florida OOC? Do they go over Michigan just because they won their conference?

The "you didn't win your conference argument" is flawed.

From ESPN.com :

1. Florida beat nine teams that are projected to play in bowl games. Michigan beat six.

2. Michigan beat five teams that finished the season with losing records. Florida beat two teams with sub-.500 records.

3. Florida's 12 Division I-A opponents had a combined record of 89-57. Michigan's 12 opponents had a combined record of 84-61.

4. Michigan's best win is considered a 27-13 victory over Wisconsin on Sept. 23. The Badgers are 11-1 and have climbed to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 poll, despite having played only one ranked opponent -- the Wolverines -- the entire season.

5. The 12 teams Florida defeated finished the season with 11 combined wins against opponents which were ranked in the AP Top 25 poll at the time the game was played. The opponents Michigan defeated claim just three wins against ranked teams (Notre Dame beat Penn State. Indiana beat Iowa. Vanderbilt beat Georgia. The Nittany Lions, Hawkeyes and Bulldogs, it should be noted, haven't been ranked in seven weeks).

6. The Gators went 3-1 against ranked opponents, beating then-No. 13 Tennessee, No. 9 LSU and No. 8 Arkansas and losing at No. 11 Auburn. The Wolverines went 1-1 against ranked opponents, beating a highly overrated No. 2 Notre Dame team (that lost to Michigan and USC by a combined total of 46 points) and losing at No. 1 Ohio State 42-39 on Nov. 18.

7. The Gators' average margin of victory against Division I-A teams was 13.5 points. They won seven games by 14 points or fewer, six by less than 10. The Wolverines' average margin of victory was 17.3 points. They won six games by 14 points or fewer, two by less than 10.

8. The Gators played Western Carolina, a Division I-AA team, and won by 62 points. The Wolverines played Ball State, which should be a I-AA team, and won by eight.

9. Since the Wolverines last played and lost at Ohio State, the Gators won at Florida State (The Seminoles are 6-6, but rivalry games are tough to win. Just ask USC coach Pete Carroll) and then beat the No. 8 Razorbacks, who defeated then-No. 2 Auburn and No. 13 Tennessee by 17 points each.

The way I see the whole rematch thing is this:

-Michigan had its chance to beat Ohio State and if they did that, they could be national champions.

-If Florida is left out, they never will have gotten the chance to play OSU and be national champions.

Why give one team a second chance when there's another team that deserves a shot and hasn't gotten one yet?

Ball State would kill Western Carolina. That's a stupidass comment.

Why give one team a second chance when there's another team that deserves a shot and hasn't gotten one yet?

That's not what it should be about. Don't even think of it like that. Who is the more deserving team Florida or Michigan? The fact michigan played OSU already shouldn't matter.

A Michigan friend of mine has said that Urban Meyer is classless for openly campaigning and bashing Michigan.

I don't find it classless personally, since he is trying to accomplish his goal of winning a national title, but I also have not seen him bash Michigan. If anyone has any transcripts of him doing so, I would greatly appreciate you posting them.

P.S. What team that has proven that they are good has Michigan beaten to deserve to go to the title game?

If I were the Gator's, I would prefer NOT to play in the title game. I really think the only team capable of beating OSU right now is Michigan. They went into Columbus and nearly pulled it off. A rematch on a neutral field could end be reversing the result. Florida has enough injuries and makes enough mental errors to be crushed by OSU in a title game.

But if Florida goes to another game, wins, and Michigan beats OSU, I think a split title like 04-05 between LSU and USC could definitely happen, especially in light of UF's lead in the AP poll over Michigan. I think this is UF's best path towards a title.

I really don't think they can beat OSU.

But as far as the two teams go, I think a team that didnt win its conference but won a NC would make no sense.

I liked what the color guy on CBS (Danielson?) did by ranking the team's win and then comparing them against each other. Doing that, Florida easily had the better schedule.

Michigan getting another chance is a joke. It makes the first match up meaningless and it gives the Wolverines a 'do over'....they had their chance, they didn't win. It's done.

I havent heard Meyer openly campaign, if anyone heard him after the game last night he didn't campaign at all. He may have more recently but after the game he was total class.

Do you really think that Florida players are sayin to themselves, "gee, maybe we should let another team play OSU because we can't beat them!"

Who has Michigan beat of consequence that makes you think they are so good?

They beat Wisconsin. Wisconsin is good. Don't kid yourself.

I know you have a man-crush on the SEC, but Michigan beat Wisconsin. 'Nuff said.

Both teams have an argument, but Florida wins the argument, hands down.

Plus, Michigan's schedule was harder. I don't think anyone can dispute that, even if the SEC is a tough conference to play in.

Oh really, let's break Michigan's "hard" schedule down. Forget Ohio State, we already know where they are ranked, plus Michigan lost to them. So let's look at how quality their wins were.

1. 5 of their opponents had losing records: Vanderbilt, Michigan State, Indiana, Northwestern and Ball State. I don't think we need to discuss these teams anymore. That leaves us with 6 teams to talk about.

2. 2 of their opponents were exactly .500: Minnesota and Iowa. Let's break them down.

Minnesota: Finished exactly .500. Their only win against a team with a winning record was North Dakota State, not even a division 1 team. They went 0-6 against teams with winning records, 0-4 vs teams in the top 25, and were outscored 119-43 in those games. Solid team.

Iowa:Finished exactly .500. Their best win was over Purdue. 1 of their 6 wins was vs a DII team, 3 more against teams at the bottom of their own conferences. 0-3 vs top 25 teams.

3. Central Michigan. Mid conference team. Sure they won the western part of the MAC conference, but can we count this win as impressive? They still finished 9-4 on the year and lost to every decent team they faced (Michigan, Boston College, Kentucky and Northern Illinois). Moving on, 3 teams to go.

4. Penn State finished 8-4. Sounds pretty solid, until you look at the schedule. They finished 0-4 vs ranked opponents. That means every win they had was against a non Top 25 team. Yeah thats right, they beat up on such in conference powers such as Northwestern, Illinois, Purdue, Michigan State and Minnesota. Oh yeah, their great out of conference schedule included Akron, Temple and the D2 Youngstown State Penguins.

5. Notre Dame. I think we all saw how overrated they are. They went 1-2 against top 25 teams, including getting beat by a combined 46 between Michigan and USC. They also had a last minute drive to escape UCLA and had an absolute miracle comeback to beat 4-7 Michigan State. Need I say more.

6. This leaves us with Wisconsin. Sure they went 11-1. Too bad they played 1 top 25 team all year, and lost. They had a horrible conference schedule that included wins over Indiana, Northwestern, Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue, Illinois and Iowa. Now I know people will say they can't control who they play in conference, it's not their fault. I agree, so let's look at their out of conference schedule, since they made that themself. Powers sch as Bowling Green (4-8), San Diego St (3-9), Buffalo (2-10), and the Western Illinois Leathernecks (5-6). That's a combined out of conference record of 14-33 (42%), and I'm supposed to be impressed by Wisconsin's 11 wins? Not quite.

So yeah, I'd like to dispute your claim.

They beat Wisconsin. Wisconsin is good. Don't kid yourself.

Who has Michigan beat of consequence that makes you think they are so good?

No, of course they arent saying that and I wouldn't expect them to.

And I never said Florida was less deserving. In fact I said that it would suck if a team that didnt win the conference won a national title. I do think Florida is more deserving. But in light of their injuries and their tendency to make mistakes that teams like OSU punish you for, I don't know that they can beat that team. They might be better off playing a worse team in another bowl, winning, and splitting a title. Michigan on the other hand has shown the ability to play with OSU and could end up winning on neutral ground.

I'm not saying that this is what Florida is going to want. It's just something for the discussion. If Florida doesnt get picked, it really isnt the end of the world for them.
