Posted December 25, 200618 yr I'm goin next week from Thursday to Sunday.....Anyone got any places for me to go or things to do??? How far is the airport from the stadium? Are there areas to stay away from?
December 25, 200618 yr what stadium? are the eagles playing at the georiga dome? I havent been to atlanta in a long time so I cant be of any help to you, sorry
December 25, 200618 yr The airport is way to the south of town, while all of the stadiums (and most interesting places to go) are scattered around just outside of the downtown area. Of course the train will drop you off right in front of the Georgia Dome and the Philips Arena, so it's not a big deal that nothing is close to the airport. If I were you, I'd get a hotel somewhere along one of the rail lines and stick to MARTA for getting around, or at least for getting to the game. For a southern city, Atlanta's transit system is pretty impressive, so you shouldn't have any problem finding an accessible hotel or getting around.
December 25, 200618 yr The game is at the Georgia Dome and I believe i'm staying at the Omni right outside the arena.
December 25, 200618 yr Little sports bar in Suwannee (40 minutes north of Atlanta) called Jeffrey's Sports Bar. Ask for Donna. Philips Arena is REALLY nice. Go catch a Hawks game. Like Miri said, stay far away from Underground Atlanta. Turner Field is sweet but real empty this time of year.
December 26, 200618 yr Go to the Coke Factory :thumbup the factory's awesome. At the end they have unlimited free samples :thumbup

December 26, 200618 yr only go to the coke factory if you are a tourist...I've been before and can't stand it (the movie is annoying also becasue of the way it is filmed...I have a problem with my eyes that doesn't help) It is the biggest tourist trap I've seen. I'll assume you'll be there for the game this week? Saturday is the Chick-Fil-A Bowl also. Unfortunantly the Hawks are out of town as are the Thrashers. Turner Field does give tours as does CNN Center (which is attached to Phillips Arena and if nothing else has a great food court, so even if you don't like CNN or TV News, the foods good).... The tour of Turner Field is closed for the holidays. CNN CENTER TOUR INFO: Tours operate 7 days a week between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm and depart every 10 minutes. Reservations are highly recommended - tours tend to sell out hours and sometimes days in advance. Please call 1-877-4CNNTOUR or 404-827-2300 for reservations. Reservations not accepted and the tour office is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Adult $12 The CNN Studio Tour is 50 minutes in length. Also, the Turner store has great stuff in it and also you can make a video or take a picture of yourself at the CNN "desk" GEORGIA STATE CAPITOL TOURS: Georgia State Capitol Tours begin at the Capitol tour desk (located near the Washington Street entrance) and consist of a brief overview of Capitol history and the lawmaking process; a visit to the public galleries of the House of Representatives and Senate; and conclude with a visit to the Georgia Capitol Museum. Visitors are also encouraged to visit the "Hall of Valor," which houses Georgia?s priceless collection of historic flags. Tours are approximately 45 minutes in duration and group sizes are limited to 50. You are welcome to schedule a tour by calling (404) 656-2844, emailing [email protected], or submitting an online request. Walk-in visitors are also welcome. Other stuff you can do... SPORTS: Georgia Tech hosts Troy on Thursday 2:00pm and GT also hosts St. Francis (PA) (one of my schools NEC rivals ) Saturday at 8pm Georgia Aquarium (probably Sold Out) 11th Circuit Court of Appeals (I do not know if they offer tours) The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta The King Center-MLK Historical Site (National Historical Site) been there, its fun Zoo Atlanta Centennial Olympic Park...a nice place to walk around. NORTH OF DOWNTOWN: Also a short drive is The Varsity...EXCELLENT drive in fare! Great burgers! (it along with GA Tech is at station N3) at N5 (Arts Center) is the High Museum of Art and Atlanta Boutanical Gardens...both well very well known. NE7 (Lenox) feautrues Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza...great shopping. HOWEVER ONLY GO THERE DURING WEEKDAY DAYLIGHT HOURS!!!! Lenox features a Macy's Bloomingdales, and Nieman Marcus(my dad helped make the Macy's mens store lat Lenox ook how it is...I like to brag) while Phipps features many upscale stores including Sacks 5th Ave and Nordstrom Dunwoody Station (N9) features the Perimeter Mall...theres good shopping and food there and right across the street is where my dad used to work. I spent a lot of good times there! SOUTH OF DOWNTOWN: Airport WEST OF DOWNTOWN: NOTHING! EAST OF DOWNTOWN: E2-King Center DESTINATIONS NOT ACCESSABLE BY TRAIN: Jimmy Carter Library-I liked it a lot (you can catch a "16-Noble" bus or take a cab) thats all i can think of right now...if you have any questions let me know. I used to live in the area, so I'm pretty familiar with it
