Posted December 29, 200618 yr http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/col...&id=2710222 Interesting that Sheridan mentions that the Heat are in the running for a number of players on the list, specifically Maggette, Artest, McInnis, and Morris Peterson. He also has Posey #6 on the list. It is also interesting that the Heat could trade Posey straight up for either Maggette or Artest and it would work under the cap.
December 29, 200618 yr Author I'd take Posey. I love what Posey brings too, but if you can trade him for a talent like Artest you have to do it. Yes he's crazy, but i'm sure Riley would love the chance to coach him. It would definately be a gamble, but one you have to take if the opportunity presents itself.
December 29, 200618 yr I'd do Posey for Artest in a cocaine heartbeat. ALSO: Can someone with Insider copy and paste the article here?
December 29, 200618 yr Bring Eddie Jones and Morris Peterson, trade Posey and Simien, but not Kapono or Wright. I still want Eddie and I love Peterson in Miami. And with Kapono emerging on both offense and defense, I still think Posey could be traded.

And with Kapono emerging on both offense and defense, I still think Posey could be traded. You really want Eddie Jones back? For what reason? He brings nothing to the team that Kapono, Posey, and Wright doesn't, but he's older, more expensive, and not as good as any of those players at this point in his career. I'd rather bring Shandon Anderson back than Jones.

And that one game in Miami just SCREAMED "Please trade for me." 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 7 points. Eddie Jones wants to be here. He'll be last year's Shandon/Derek Anderson.
December 29, 200618 yr Artest would work nicely for us but like stated before he is a gamble. Maggette could fit the plans that we need. Kapano has really stepped up but if there is one person we have to move to upgrade I suppose it would be Posey.

December 29, 200618 yr I think the Kings and Clips want to try and compete so might want something similiar in return, ie why they might be good trading partners with each other.
December 29, 200618 yr Eddie has been injury plagued for a while now, I'll pass. After last night's Bulls game, I am really confident that we have enough 3 point/perimeter threats. Kapono is just ridiculous, Williams can light it up on occasion and we all know about Posey. It also looks like Quinn can hang with them in that area as well. What Miami needs is another playmaker in addition to Wade. Williams isn't it, but I can't blame him. And Walker obviously isn't the solution. Just someone to get the ball to the open shooters, and drive if necessary.

He has a huge impact on a game even if he only gets 10/5.

Not with his knees like this, he can't spread the floor as well as he did in the past. He's still a nice shooting threat and good passer, but we need a guy like Wade who can drive and dish to the open man; or drive and get to the free throw line.
December 29, 200618 yr Updated: Dec. 28, 2006, 12:28 PM ET Post-Iverson: Who's next to be traded?By Chris Sheridan ESPN.com Archive Joe Maloof wasn't all that comfortable giving a public reading on his level of satisfaction with Ron Artest, but when the question was posed Wednesday in a way that he felt comfortable answering, the co-owner of the Sacramento Kings relented. Have he and his brother Gavin fallen out of love with Artest? "No, not at all. He's had two great practices, he's upbeat, he's made comments lately that make a lot of sense. So I don't want to make any other comments other than Artest has been great," Maloof said. But those who spend more time around the team than the co-owners would beg to differ, and the scuttlebutt going around the league this week was that Geoff Petrie has decided the most prudent course of action is to cut the cord with Artest before an already shaky situation grows even more unstable. Barring a trade in the next 24-48 hours, Ron-Ron's last chance to salvage his relationships with Mike Bibby and coach Eric Musselman will come over the course of a five-game home stand that begins Saturday night. An offer of a straight-up swap for Corey Maggette of the Los Angeles Clippers is on the table, but there are many, many other scenarios involving Maggette in play to keep the Artest deal just an option for now. But something is clearly going to give soon with Maggette, which is why he tops Insider's two months-into-the-season list of the 10 players most likely to be traded: 1. Corey Maggette, Clippers It's now been a full year since the Clips first tried to deal him to Indiana in a trade that fell through when Maggette couldn't pass the Pacers' physical, and he -- just like every other key player on the Clippers -- has had a precipitous drop in production this season while waiting for another deal to go down. The prevailing belief around the NBA is that Maggette will be gone from the Clippers within the next two weeks. Possible destinations: Kings, Heat, Jazz, Spurs, Rockets ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for Corey Maggette 2. Ron Artest, Kings One major player agent, usually the overly cautious type, went so far as to tell Insider he "guarantees" Artest will be traded, saying Sacramento has had a change of heart after believing earlier this season that the best way to move forward would be to deal Mike Bibby. One team to keep in mind in the whole Artest mix is Miami, as the Heat's interest in Allen Iverson showed how Pat Riley -- one of the few who would welcome the challenge of coaching a head case like Artest -- is looking to do something major in his effort to repeat. Possible destinations: Clippers, Heat, Warriors ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for Ron Artest 3. Morris Peterson, Raptors He'll undoubtedly be gone from Toronto by the time the trade deadline arrives in late February, but he'll be gone by mid-January if Bryan Colangelo can get some dependable size or a low first-round pick for a player whose usefulness in Toronto has expired and whose $4.5 million salary comes off the cap in June. And because the Raptors are about $2 million under the cap, they can take back a higher-salaried player than usual. Interest from around the league heated up after Peterson lost his starting job to Fred Jones. Possible destinations: Celtics, Heat, Hornets, Jazz, Bulls, Pacers ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for Morris Peterson 4. Jeff McInnis, Nets He's clogging up a much-needed roster spot in New Jersey, where Rod Thorn has turned desperate following the season-ending knee injury to Nenad Krstic. McInnis's $3.6 million salary comes off the cap in June, and Thorn is now said to be willing to include a lottery-protected No. 1 draft pick in a deal. Portland reportedly turned down McInnis and Jason Collins for Jamaal Magloire. Possible destinations: Heat, 76ers ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for Jeff McInnis 5. P.J. Brown, Bulls Currently going through a cooling-off period after publicly expressing his displeasure with his role in Chicago, where he lost his starting job early in the season. Plenty of teams want him, but the Bulls want to hang on to his expiring $8 million contract -- and Mike Sweetney's -- until closer to the trade deadline, when Kevin Garnett or another capable low-post scorer could come onto the market. Possible destinations: Nets, Lakers, Mavericks ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for P.J. Brown 6. James Posey, Heat His expiring $6.4 million contract is one of the few chips Pat Riley has in his arsenal, along with youngsters Dorell Wright and Wayne Simien and the expiring contract of Jason Kapono. A package of all four, plus a No. 1 pick, could get the Heat a $12 million player or players in return. ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for James Posey 7. Earl Boykins, Nuggets He certainly hasn't looked expendable playing alongside Allen Iverson in Denver's last two games, but his role and his number of shot attempts will both dry up when Carmelo Anthony finishes his 15-game sucker-punch suspension, and the Nuggets are expected to try to pawn off a salary for a draft pick to avoid paying the luxury tax. ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for Earl Boykins 8. Gerald Green, Celtics Amid all the duplication and youth on Boston's roster, Danny Ainge is much more reluctant to part with Delonte West, Al Jefferson and Tony Allen than he is with Green, who had 18 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and two steals in a rare start Tuesday night at Denver. ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for Gerald Green 9. Mike Dunleavy, Warriors We were tempted to put him higher on this list, but various voices around the league cautioned there's more smoke than fire here, in large part because of his base-year compensation status, although there's still more interest in Junior than there is in another Warrior long rumored to be on the block, Troy Murphy. ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for Mike Dunleavy 10. Jamaal Magloire, Trail Blazers Has a big contract ($8.3 million) that comes off the cap after this season, but Portland seems set on keeping him until closer to the Feb. 23 trade deadline. ? ESPN.com's Trade Machine: Make a deal for Jamaal Magloire Honorable mention: Bonzi Wells, Rockets (trade eligible after Jan. 5); Jerome James, Knicks; DJ Mbenga, Mavericks; Beno Udrih, Spurs; Eddie Jones, Grizzlies; Andre Miller, 76ers; Matt Harpring, Jazz; Jackie Butler, Spurs. December 29, 200618 yr It's funny how alot of the same people that ran Eddie Jones out of town want him back now that his replacement (Antoine) is even worse. Anyway, I wouldn't object to bringing EJ back...as a free agent in '07. He can sign for the vet minimum ala Zo and Payton and be another veteran contributing off the bench. I also like the sound of bringing Mo Pete down here. He's a nice player and can bring consistency off the bench instead of this hot/cold nonsense we've grown accustomed to with the Heat. Oh yeah, and one more thing...keep Posey! He's one of the better defenders on the team and he's proven to be a clutch player. Keep him and sign him to an extension in the offseason. And Antoine - do whatever, ANYTHING, to get rid of this guy. Ugh.

I never liked that we traded Eddie away. He was my favorite NBA player for a long time and when he came to the Heat, I loved it. It's a shame that he, Zo, and Rasta never got a chance to all play healthy together. After the terrible start in the 01-02 season, the Heat played like a championship team with all those geezers on the team. Eddie Jones hit big shot after big shot after big shot. God, I loved that team. EJ, JJ, Rod Strickland, Rasta, Zo, Stepania, Ellis, Gatling, House, and of course... KENDALL GILL.

December 30, 200618 yr EJ was clutch in that 01-02 season. There was only one year that actually mattered when he was here, too. The contract was ridiculous, but hey, it's not my money.

It's nothing personal. I don't hate the guy for making his money, but it sucks that he financially locks the team up from making another move.

You act as if he put a gun to someone's head and demanded that money. At the time, he and Rasta were worth the money and things didn't turn out the way we wanted but it wasn't all their fault. They expected a healthy Zo and they were injured a little bit. Anyway, it worked out for the better. Drafted Caron and Rasual after being 10 games under .500. Did really bad the year after and got Wade in the draft after Zo decided to turn on us. Also got Odom. THANKS TO ANTHONY CARTER! Traded Caron, Rasta, and Odom for Shaq. Traded EJ, Rasual, and Woods for J-Will, Posey, and Toine. It's kind of funny actually. Where would we be right now if Zo never got messed up and if Anthony Carter resigned in time?
