October 9, 200322 yr 2k3 marlins,. jack said he only did it to get lowell some at bats to get sharp for next game
October 9, 200322 yr i think this is a move more for next season, but could be used this season. We need Conine, Cabs, and Lowell in the lineup...because, frankly, A-Gon has sucked this postseason.
October 9, 200322 yr well Alex is in the lineup for his D and honestly it hasnt been there in the playoffs YES he made some GREAT plays but we need him to make ALL the plays... i hope he can make up for it back home
October 9, 200322 yr i dont think it was for next season. jack said he did it because gonzalez strggled and lowell needed some AB and Cabrera has a homer. he said ''who do i take out' and he could get cabrera to prac some SS.
October 9, 200322 yr NL version of A ROD, I like the move , it makes our lineup so much stronger , who bats 8th ? Juan E or Niner? It is more likely Juan E due to the fact we could have him on 3rd , Pierre on 2nd and Louie on 1st with Pudge and Lowell hitting :w00t them in.
October 9, 200322 yr look... sea bass has to make ever play at short in order to warrant his being in the lineup. his bat has been crap. he has made too many mistakes frankly, whether they were truly his fault or not. if your not hitting, you sure as hell better be defending
October 9, 200322 yr I agree, Sea Bass needs to sit it out for a bit. For a guy who's been playing for several years, it's surprising what a mediocre hitter he remains to be. He makes rookie mistakes like chasing at bad pitches, getting behind early, and almost never getting walks. We also know he's a very, very streaky kind of hitter. And it's pretty clear he's not in one of his "good" streaks, so I think we should give the extra bat to someone who can win it for us. AGon in the postseason: 1 hit in 23 AB (.043 avg). Also, got 1 walk in an AB to make his OBP a whopping .083. Cabs is red hot, hitting .333 in the postseason. His OBP is .360 since he's still an over-aggressive rookie at the plate and only got 1 walk. Oh yeah, and in Game 2 (w/ Prior, mind you) he hit 2-4 with a jack. Think about it this way: For each defensive play that AGon makes that Cabrera wouldn't have, it's like he took away 1 hit from the other guys. For each hit Cabrera gets that Gonzo wouldn't have gotten, it's like we got an additional 1 hit. Cabrera's fielding is good--.986 at 3B this season--so I'm sure he'll be able to manage.
October 9, 200322 yr Too bad Jack doesn't see it our way. Cabrera short-lived at shortstop: Asked if anything should be read into the switch, McKeon emphatically said: "No. No. The lineup will be the same the next game. We aren't making any more changes." I'll go with what magic old man jack says, since he has consistently gotten away with some c**k-eyed decisions this postseason, leading us to victory. Maybe the benching will motivate Sea Bass to produce. It might be a good thing, especially considering how streaky he is.
October 9, 200322 yr the flip side of this argument of course, is that Alex's poor performance at the plate has not been the primary reason for either of the Marlins losses thus far in the postseason. they certainly didn't lose last night's game because of Alex. they were down 8-0 after 3 innings facing Mark Prior. that's what lost them the game. it's an option for the future, but probably a little premature to make the move in the middle of the playoffs. it just kills me having Lowell's bat wasting away on the bench though...
October 9, 200322 yr I for one will be glad to see Alex out line up but not sure defensively how good Cabrera is at SS.
October 9, 200322 yr I, for one, am 100% against sitting Gonzo in favor of Cabs. For all of you who have questioned whether AGon is that great in the field, ask yourself, "Which NL SS would you rather have (speaking of defense only)?" I say NONE. He, IMO, is the best. And on top of that, he has exceptional chemistry with his longtime DP partner Luis. This brings me to my next point... In a series where your team is not expecting to score too many runs you can't afford to give the other team more chances to score their own runs. That means not making erros as well as turning every DP possible. Who gives you the best chance of doing these things? Gonzalez. No SS in the NL has the ability to turn a DP like he does. He has more controll over his body, while airborne, than any player I've ever seen, and he has the arm to compliment this. On top of all of this, anyone who has ever played the middle infield will tell you that it takes time to become comfortable with your DP partner. You need to know where they will be at any given moment, even with your eyes closed or your back to the infield. My second major point is this: While I agree that Lowell offers a lot of offense, he also provides McKeon a major weapon on his bench. Late in a game, when you need to make a double switch, Mike can be inserted in the 9-hole and play third, putting the new pitcher in Cabrera's spot. This will allow you to get an extra inning out of Fox or Pavano while losing almost nothing defensively at 3B. No other team in these playoffs has that type of option - with any position. My bottom line is this. We all agree that Lowell is a major part of this team, but, the team is playing excceptioanlly well right now (not counting last night, and quite frankly, Lowell at 3B, - Cabs at SS would have made absolutely zero differnce in the game) and they're winning. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
October 9, 200322 yr i dont think this should be taken too seriously, i mean i am against Cabrera going back to shortstop but it is temporary, i hope, and that IS okay. If Jack is thinking of giving Alex a break for a game that's fine. If thats the case its not a big deal. Being a great defensive player and making great plays day in and day out makes up for his 1-4 or his 0 fors'...Thats just my opinion.
October 9, 200322 yr I hope jack has read my mind,and put cab's at short!imagine the lineup. 1.Pierre. 2.Castillo. 3.Pudge. 4.Lee. 5.Cabrera. 6.Lowell. 7.Encarnacion. 8.Conine. 9.Pitcher.
October 9, 200322 yr Conine batting in the 8th hole is absolutely ridiculous to believe... that lineup is SICK... *wipes drool* Trader says Alex will start game 3
October 9, 200322 yr Yea but that's the worst hitter we got if we had this lineup, crazy huh? *follows ramp and wipes drool*
October 9, 200322 yr Btw:i think alex is 1 for 25 in the whole playoffs!*jack please take alex out* does anybody think that mckeon wont take out gonzo cuz of his attitude?
October 9, 200322 yr Sigh. I've said it a hundred times.... The Marlins do not have an offensive enough lineup to warrant carrying a defensive SS with absolutely no bat whatsoever. Cabs at SS for the love of God!!!
October 9, 200322 yr that lineup is SICK... I would be sick (to my stomach) too, the instant that Cabs muffs an inning ending DP and a run scores (directly or indirectly) or doesn't get to a ball in the hole and a runner scores from second. The mark of a good coaching staff is putting their players in positions to succeed. Putting Cabs at 3B is setting him up to (potentially) be the goat.
October 9, 200322 yr Lee should not be batting fourth. Cabs third, Pudge fourth. Put Lee wherever you want a crap-shoot long ball gamble.
October 9, 200322 yr This is a BAD time to do this. The postseason turns on errors. Now is not the time to experiment with putting a guy at the most important defensive position on the diamond, when he hasn't played it in 2 or so years.
October 9, 200322 yr Lee should not be batting fourth. Cabs third, Pudge fourth. Put Lee wherever you want a crap-shoot long ball gamble. Pudge is a classic 3 hole hitter.... dont move him Alex hasnt been himself on defense(ieven with 2 great plays).... i hope he isnt bringing his offensive struggles to the diamond
