Is Penny Hurt?

Jack McKeon insists there's nothing wrong with Brad Penny, but any reader of UTK must have doubts. Carl Pavano will get the start on Tuesday, and he's looked pretty good in his relief appearances this season. I think we'll see something from the Marlins on Penny shortly after they exit the season, whenever that may be. His elbow just can't be right, especially if he's not used in Pavano's relief role.

I dont think there anything wrong with Penny, just the writers dont got anything to write about so they mkae up trash.. Plus Penny pitch very poorly lately and we cant afford that now

My sources say he's so out of shape he's the laughingstock of the clubhouse with his fat gut and his poor eating habits. If he survives (with the team) the off-season, he has to come into camp next year 20+ lbs lighter or be gone then.

im sure the writers of baseballprospectus.com had nothing better to write than to make up stories about Penny....

I don't know if there's anything wrong - his velocity in his last start was certainly around where it should, I think McKeon is simply trying to send him a message. I think Brad's been his biggest "project" this year in turning around this staff, and this could be a good way of teaching him a lesson.

Nothin' wrong with Penny.

Pavano is the better match up and has pitched much better than Penny as of late.

Guys,

Jack sat down Penny because he doesn't do well against the Cubs. He likes his chances with Carl because...

1) Earlier this season Carl held the Cubs to one run for 6 innings or so and that is what Jack wants.

2) Carl is a new pitcher that the Cubs haven't seen too much and may not hit well compared to Penny.

3) Carl is underrated by many and may help the Marlins scratch out the win.

This will either work for Jack or explode in his face, just like everything he has done this season. Hopefully it will work.

I couldn't agree with you more Ramp. BaseballProspectus is a good read but very thin on the facts, and more often wrong than right. Plus, generally, they are as anti-Marlins as they come.

Penny pitched very well in his relief appearance on Saturday. Why would he come in in relief if something was wrong?

they said after the season they may find out something is wrong with him Yes, but if the excuse for not starting him was that he was hurt is then that would be negated by the fact that he appeared in relief and was successful there.

you call walking 1 guy and letting 2 hits and loading up the bases in 1 inning very good?

he pitched well on saturday?????????????

compared to a baby-maybe

what r u talking about?

Unless you count the brain as a muscle, there is nothing wrong with Penny.

But seriously, I dont doubt that something may be wrong with him, but I wouldnt blame his bad performance on his elbow. If there is something wrong that has to be dealt with now - before he goes out on the field. And I doubt McKeon would throw him out there twice knowing that something is wrong with him.

But could we really be faced with another Dr. Hacknife Andrews patient? Add him to the list of Burnett, Spoon, Neal. We should get a discount...

prospectus is stoopid. they always aare. dont read there stuff unless you are bored. they just copy baseball america and make up the rest.

funny, you calling a baseball website 'stoopid'

He isnt hurt just Penny has gotten Racked all his Starts in the postseason. He cant be injured, he is still throwing in the high 90's. Just he doesnt have control in this Post season. He just threw the ball with no control.....
