May 8, 200719 yr he has been sidelined with a sore shoulder.....absolutely super!!!! damn it sun-sentinel: SANCHEZ SIDELINED Recently demoted Anibal Sanchez is out with a sore right shoulder
May 8, 200719 yr Full Sun-Sentinel Article: MIAMI GARDENS ? Scheduled to make his debut for Triple-A Albuquerque tonight, recently demoted starter Anibal Sanchez won't be pitching anywhere for a while. Sanchez has been diagnosed with right shoulder tendinitis and will rehab in Jupiter for the next several weeks. He is on the Isotopes' disabled list. "After we optioned him out, he said his shoulder didn't feel right," General Manager Admin Beinfest said. "We'll see when he starts to ramp back up." Sanchez has consulted with the team's medical personnel and undergone the usual battery of tests. He is on no-throw orders for the next seven to 10 days and will be re-evaluated after that. Friday, the Marlins demoted Sanchez after he lasted 3 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits and walked four against the Mets on Wednesday. Sanchez's high pitch counts and inability to close out hitters were more damaging than his 2-1 record and 4.80 ERA through six starts. He averaged 19.1 pitches per inning. Over his past five starts, Sanchez threw just 57.6 percent of pitches for strikes. At no point during his struggles did Sanchez hint at a physical problem. After Wednesday's game he said about the only thing he had going for him was he felt great physically, which added to his frustration. Sanchez experienced shoulder discomfort during his offseason throwing program in Venezuela. Two springs ago after the Marlins acquired him from the Red Sox in the Josh Beckett deal, a sore shoulder all but derailed his chance to make last season's Opening Day roster. Beinfest would not speculate as to whether a sore shoulder could explain Sanchez's command problems. Sanchez's performance/physical shortcomings are costing him plenty of money. He was earning $381,000 in the majors, but he'll collect the prorated share of $121,151 while in the minors.
May 8, 200719 yr If he was injured, why send him to AAA? Why not the DL? I don't get it. "After we optioned him out, he said his shoulder didn't feel right," General Manager Admin Beinfest said. "We'll see when he starts to ramp back up."

I would bet he's been injured for a while.
May 8, 200719 yr He was hurting for a while apparently and didn't bring it up until they told him he was getting sent down. It rubbed a lot of people the wrong way from what i've heard.
May 8, 200719 yr I'ts like the injury bug the heat had this season has spread to the marlins. This sucks donkey balls.
May 8, 200719 yr It is so frustrating to watch these young players at the minimum decieve with impunity their manager and coaches. Whether it's a DeAza or a Sanchez (who really ought to know better, his wife is a doctor for God's sakes, it isn't like he couldn't speak to her in confidence), all that results is this. Again, I blame the MLBPA for not educating their members better. This is the same MLBPA that's proven themselves to be the chief drug-enablers for more than a decade. They should be in every clubhouserunning seminars, especially for their younger players. I'm really sorry to read this this morning. Alot of this didn't have to happen.
May 8, 200719 yr Thats sucks but what can we do? I wonder if Wes will be our permant starter for those few weeks.
May 9, 200719 yr 05/08/2007 10:53 AM ET Ailing shoulder lands Sanchez on DL Righty experiences tendinitis after being optioned to Triple-A MIAMI -- Another bout of shoulder discomfort has led to Anibal Sanchez being placed on the Minor League 15-day disabled list. Optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Sanchez was placed on the DL on Monday with shoulder tendinitis. The Venezuela native was in line to make his first start for the Isotopes on Tuesday at Memphis. Now he is in a 7-to-10 day no-throw period. He will rehab at the Marlins' Minor League complex in Jupiter. In January, Sanchez experienced shoulder discomfort and had an MRI exam. The 23-year-old righty was eased into Spring Training, but he was built up enough to be the third starter when the season opened. Sanchez made six starts with the Marlins, and was 2-1 with a 4.80 ERA. But he struggled with command of his fastball, and he walked 19 and struck out 14 in 30 innings. He was optioned after he lost to the Mets on Wednesday at Shea Stadium. In that game, he was struck on the right knee on a comeback liner off the bat of David Wright. Sanchez remained in the game, but he was lifted after 3 1/3 innings and 75 pitches, with 44 for strikes. Joe Frisaro is a reporter for MLB.com. May 9, 200719 yr I'm glad he's hurt, because it means the poor performance wasn't the league figuring him out (for the most part).
