...then there was 3...

From the first game of the new Loria era, there was problems. We ran out of hot dogs. The media had a field day, ripping Mr. Loria and his front office for buying the Marlins. How dare they come to Miami and try and save this franchise...cant they see we were just happy as it was? A wreck under Henry?

But now, only after one year, when the Marlins made some offseason moves that drew criticism - from pundits and media alike. A corpse with breast implants? Funny, because all that move did was put us in the World Series and win an NLCS MVP - thanks Pudge. For the baseball - that you will never let go of - not for the breast implants. Oh, how does that crow taste, Le Retard?

Beinfest made all the right moves - much debated here in Marlindom, but still proved their worth. Give him a king's stake in this.

Samson, the diminutive businessman, called forth a prediction that made the so-called experts laugh. He called for this team to win 90 games. We won 91.

And Loria. The media attacked him. Fans from Montreal cursed him. Fans in S. Fl. cursed him. He opened up his wallet. He gave his braintrust the freedom to make the right moves. He stayed low-key. And at the end, hoisting the NL trophy in the air, he gave the credit to the team, the organization. He said "I couldnt," but changed it to "we couldnt have done this..." and went on to name who had a hand in all of this. It does start with him, but he showed that it was an organization that got this done. He believed. Samson believed. Beinfest believed. McKeon Believed. This team believed.

Mr Loria, thank you. You do deserve a lot of credit for this. I just want to say to you, "thank you, thank you very much". It is funny, back in '97 there was a saying used by the team then. 'One Heartbeat'. Seems that corpse was resuscitated here when Loria brough it back to life.

damn straight...i want everyone here to say something about Loria and the front office - something positive of course, but how could you not...

Great point JL....

I'm not too proud to not step up to the plate and eat some crow.

I was wrong about Beinfest's baseball acumen and Loria's commitment to bringing in talent. I've gone from thinking they were the worst ownership group to feeling like it all couldn't of happened to a more deserving group of guys.

You can keep your Billy Bean prodigies and your fat Payrolls, I'll take this bargain basement squad they put together anyday.

Samson was like a little boy screaming at Steve Lyons on how happy he was.

Yeah, looked like he had a bit of stubble there too...playoffs? I know my beard is nice and juicy...til I trimmed it before Game 5. Looks like I have to keep it short....

Before this thread disappears into internet obscurity I wanted to add my thanks to Loria and company, especially Admin Beinfest, for putting this team on the field and then having the guts to bring in Jack McKeon to teach them how win.

Thank you Jeffrey, thank you David and thank you Admin. You guys did a wonderful thing this season for baseball fans everywhere, not just in South Florida.

Breast Implants on a Corpse = MVP

That LeBatard quote will go down in baseball history as one of the stupidest ever said.

I believe Samson predicted 91 games exactly not 90 *shudders at the creepiness again*

My bro (often an unbeliever) was talking so much crap about Loria not too long ago. Boy did I shut him up good.

Where is everyone at? Everyone on this board should pay homage here...especially those unbelievers - and you know who you are...

jonny,

Look at all my posts and you will see the thanks I give him. this man was mistreated in Montreal, not given a chance. The media down here tried to do the same, but many fans came back this year because of his efforts and now the media has to eat their words.

Good. I am not here pointing fingers, just encouraging, if not compelling, everyone to say thanks here. Maybe Loria reads this board...who knows.

I could really do without David Samson.....

or maybe he could just do his work & not make too many media appearances. :)man that guy is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Great work by all three though. Loria said the team could make some moves if they were in the hunt. He put his money where his mouth was. Beinfest went out & got the right guys at the right times. He wasn't afraid to offer some prized prospects to get the pieces that this team needed to make it here.

They get Pudge, CJ-Preston for Pierre, they acquire Mark Redman, bring up Dontrelle, hire Coach McKeon, bring up Cabrera, went & picked up Urbina, Fox, Conine, Harris, and on and on and on....

Beinfest for GM of the Year. No contest.

I thought we overpaid for both Urbina and Conine (I still do), but I said at the time that if the Marlins were able to make a good run at the wild card then those moves would be worth it in my mind. Needless to say, they were worth it and then some. Whatever all those prospects eventually do, it was worth it.

I didn't understand the Pudge move, but I didn't blast it. It was exciting to have a player of that caliber, and I defended him against all those people who said he was washed up. Did no one notice that he hit like .380 the last two months of 2002? Frankly, he didn't even exceed my expectations until the playoffs. What he's done in the playoffs has been amazing.

What else? Bringing in McKeon (I was ambivalent), bringing up Willis and Cabrera (I was against the first but for the latter), signing Chad Fox (I liked that move all the way), that crazy series of trades that brought us Pierre (I was pro-trade, but didn't have the foresight to understand how well having two leadoff men would work out. Frankly, I thought it was superfluous, but I was more wrong on this than anything this season)...and so on. Everything worked. I don't know why, but it did.

Is Beinfest a genius? I don't know. I don't think even he expected everything to work out like it did. Is McKeon a genius? He's a terrific manager. Perfect attitude for this club. Makes curious moves, but they usually seem to work out. Is Loria not an a**hole? I'm not qualified to answer that.

But I thank them all...the front office, the manager, the players...all of them. Thank you for a terrific season. Now let's win a World Series.
