I'm kind of tired now so I can't do a full review that this movie deserves but I'll get that up tomorrow. So I'll leave it at this. I'm a huge fan of gothic horror, and John Cusack so this may take something away from my opinion. But this movie was the greatest piece of horror I've seen since the Shining or the Exorcist. I'm not saying it's better but I haven't enjoyed a movie in a long long time. It harkened back to a lot of the old Roger Corman, and Mario Bava horror movies which are classics but this movie surpassed those by far.

This is easily the best film of the latest horror craze, passing movies I really enjoyed including the descent and Wolf Creek.

Just to wrap it up, I may just be on adrenaline now but I just saw a movie that is one of my favorites of all time, and really really worth checking out.

I'll get a better review tomorrow but yeah, Go see it.

Yeah it's gotten really really good reviews and currently has an 8.0 rating on IMDB which is very high for that site.

And even two days after all the adrenaline's worn off from the first showing I still say it's the best horror movie I've yet to see and defiantly one of my top 10.

i thought it was boring and the ending was blah. to me it's just one of those things that's probably a lot better in words than on screen.

You do not disrespect any John Cusack film in my presence.

Eh, I can understand it. I think it's either you like gothic horror/unrealistic suspense movie or you don't.

didn't mean to rain on your parade, really. john cusack's a cool dude but you're right, it's a hit or miss thing. i was intrigued in the first place because the concept was cool but i was disappointed with the execution. the beginning was slow and then boom, he hears about dolphin hotel and then the background is kinda rushed and then all the scenes inside the room happen and there's the movie. i didn't feel i got a good enough feel for the hotel that i could be frightened. it was too cut throat for me, if you get what i'm saying.

No, I totally understand and don't worry you didn't. I knew when I wrote this up that I was coming from a background of a guy who thinks so so highly of the lead and supporting actor and I love the genre. I totally understand your point of view.

High Fidelity is far and away the best John Cusack movie.

i've been wanting to see that movie forever now. i'm gonna rent it this week. he's never really stood out to me but i liked him in runaway jury.

I think you'll love it. Granted the movie is very much from the guy's prespective on break ups and relationships but I've shown it to plenty of girls who love it. It's my favorite and certainly the truest thing I've ever seen about relationships on screen.

I'm sorry, but anyone who saw this movie and said it sucks is likely a fan of torture porn and thus has clouded judgment when it comes to this genre. And I'm not talking about HeatGirl as that was a more indifferent response.

This is an old school thriller/horror/suspense film that elects to use traditional scare tactics over violence and bloodshed.

John Cusack gets an A+ for an awesome performance. He has one scene with his daughter that just shows such unbelievable range it nearly made my head spin.

The movie gets a 8.5/10 for having the balls to be a throwback in a dying genre, a great throwback. 1408 is probably the best all-around movie I've seen so far this year.

Saw this movie tonight and for me it was just very 'meh'. Not a big fan of the horror genre though, and I know I'll be in the minority on this but I cannot stand John Cusack. He always plays the same smarmy journalist/writer that thinks he is a badass in every movie.

Makes it even worse when I hear so many people talk about him like he is this great actor. Something about him and his movies just drive me crazy. Being John Malkovich is the exception though.

:lol Maybe badass was a bad choice of words. It's more just a smarmy obnoxious "i'm too cool to care" persona who seems to have in all his films.

Yeah, even though I adore the guy beyond words I can't argue that point.
