July 19, 200719 yr I wonder if Trelle is hurt and not telling anyone. He thinks he is always "okay" and his last 2 starts have been poopy.
July 19, 200719 yr D-Train is too good for it not to turn around for him. A change of scenario is probably best for him to get on the right track. He is a money pitcher, his motivation is dwindling and his level of frustration is increasing. An empty stadium is probably a major force that has led to his sagging performance. He needs the stimulation of a vibrant crowd and a winning attitude in the clubhouse. I am not sure he is getting that in South Florida
July 19, 200719 yr he is losing value by the start We have to define 'value' here. Were the Marlins going to trade him for anything less than the ACE package? No. Is Dontrelle an ace? No Was a contender going to cave in and over spend on him if he was pitching his normal 3.50era/1.30 whip? Possibly. Bavasi is really dumb. Now, Are contenders going to target him now that he is down and seemingly can get him on the cheap? Absolutely. Is Beinfest going to let that happen cause he's an idiot? No I don't think the phone calls end at all. I think Beinfest gets more calls now actually, and I think if the goal is to get rid of payroll and fill some holes in the process, he'll be more realistic to trade offers then he was before because of Dontrelle's performance. Which if we have to find a positive of Dontrelle struggling, that might be it. Like I said before, hypothetically if we're talking Seattle, maybe Adam Jones is absolutely off the table now. But there is no reason to believe that if the Marlins send over Dontrelle/RP, we still can't acquire their other AAA kids. Jeff Clement has really only been hitting this year. Balentien's BB rate could be a sample size fluke and the K's could go up, Jeremy Reed's name is still Jeremy Reed. You don't know if their young arms, Morrow, Lowe, O'Flaherty, will pitch to their potential and can stay healthy. Dontrelle is still a proven commodity next to all of these guys. He isn't this bad, everyone pretty much knows it, so the value is still going to be there even if it's not the Herschel Walker package Beinfest was hoping for. Plus if he goes to the AL, I bet he shows up with something to prove in a pennant race and starts blowing people up with that delivery. Especially in Safeco whose dimensions are perfect for him (and their defense is a TAD bit better).
