Pitching matchup

FLA: RHP Byung-Hyun Kim (5-5, 4.79 ERA)

Kim was brilliant against the Reds in his last outing, allowing one run on five hits in a season-high seven innings to earn the victory. He commanded his fastball well, struck out six and walked two. Kim is now 4-3 with a 4.27 ERA since the Marlins acquired him from Colorado on May 14, and Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez called him "a terrific pick-up." Kim allowed five runs in three innings against the D-backs earlier this season while pitching for Colorado. He's 1-5 with an 8.56 ERA in eight career appearances against Arizona, the team with which he began his Major League career in 1999.

ARI: RHP Micah Owings (5-5, 4.90 ERA)

Owings struggled mightily with his command in his last start against the Cubs, but somehow managed to battle his way through four innings with only two runs coming across. The right-hander managed to get a no-decision in a game the D-backs wound up winning, 3-2. In his previous outing against the Brewers, Milwaukee pushed across three runs before Owings faced the cleanup hitter.

Byung-Hyun Kim will look to piggyback a dominant outing his last time out when he faces his former team in Thursday's series finale against Arizona.

Kim, who pitched mostly as a closer for the Diamondbacks from 1999-2003, allowed just one run in seven innings in his last start to beat Cincinnati. The side-armer is 2-1 with a 3.72 ERA in three July starts, and 4-3 with a 4.27 ERA in 12 appearance with Florida. When he's pitched at Chase Field as a visitor in his career, he's 0-3 with a 10.91 ERA.

Tony Clark is 5-for-8 in his career against Kim, with a pair of home runs that both came this season.

The Marlins head into Thursday looking to avoid being swept in the four-game set. Florida is now 10 games behind the Mets in the National League East.

Arizona starter Micah Owings has not yet faced the Marlins in his rookie season. The right-hander started the season 5-1 but is 0-4 over his last six starts. His last victory came June 20 against Tampa Bay. His ERA is almost four points better at home -- 3.18 as compared to 7.15 away from Chase Field.

The Diamondbacks have not won a four-game series at home since taking four straight from the Astros from May 24-27. Florida has not lost a four-game road series all season.

GO MARLINS!

Mets lost, Phillies lost. I don't like being double digits back of anything. Go Fish!

Losing is a disease...as contagious as polio...as contagious as syphilis...as contagious as the bubonic plague...attacking one, but infecting all.

That makes just about no sense, but I love it! :notworthy

How does it make no sense? BK.

Ah-ha, brilliant! It's shameful I didn't think of that.

BK Kim...

THAT makes no sense. I always wondered why he was called BK Kim when his name is Byung-Hyun Kim. It'd be BH Kim or just plain old BK. >_<

EDIT: Or BHK.

Yes, Josh Johnson, a cooking show is more exciting than a ballgame the way your team has been playing recently...

EDIT: Or BHK.

Because his first name isn't Byung, it's Byung-Hyun. So his first initial is B, not BH. His middle name is actually John, I believe. So it's his first and last initials, BK.

Man, Kim was rolling until Rich was like "BK has not done well at all against the Diamondbacks".
