Well, Mando has 3 Blows, but we managed to win one of those. He has two other loses. So my extremely unsabermetric answer is 4. And that's assuming Superman gets the save after him everytime.

Just about every team has a guy or two in their bullpen who sucks and blows games. Granted, Julio was in a category of his own, but you can't expect the bullpen to never blow a lead during the season.

He's been real bad (2+ runs atleast) in 6 out of 26 apperances, nearly 1/4th of the time, that's still not pretty.

I'm convinced the FO is obsessed with "names" for the 8th and 9th inning. I wonder just how much Fredi's hands are tied to moving Miller into the 8th. Fredi's "I've been thinking about a lot of stuff." comment is telling.

 

I don't think people are being too hard on Armando, I think people are just sick of seeing the wrong guy in the 8th and it's frustrating. It's like giving away games.

You know what I mean. I'm mainly referring to the inning that has had the most problems. It's pretty apparent the FO wants Fredi to play the guys that are getting paid.

 

That is the only explanation in my mind why Olivo is still catching.

 

EDIT: There is no reason why Fredi should still be settling for mediocrity this late in the season. The time to experiment and let guys get back on track has passed. It's win now or nothing. Get Mando out of the 8th and put a guy in who can handle the job. This p***y footing around is pathetic. Screw Mando's confidence, if he doesn't like pitching in the 7th or 6th inning then f*** him. I could care less about Mando's feelings. I want to win, not make sure Armando's panties aren't soiled.

Thanks for correcting me I forgot just how much salary the Giants were picking up. Then it simply holds water that the FO is scared to admit they have made some crappy FA acquisitions this season. The fact is we just won't know unless someone else is given the shot. Anyone with common sense would allow the guy who is pitching best out of the bullpen to take one of the more important innings. Miller hasn't just been good lately, he has been good all year.

I will say, I'm sure the FO doesn't want to admit that some of their pickups have been a bust. But it also could come down to the fact that Justin Miller is a career 5.20 ERA journeyman pitcher. We're not playing for anything right now, right? It doesn't matter if we blow every lead from here on out, because a losing season is a losing season. For my money then, I'd rather have the established pitcher with a track record of saving 300 games over a pitcher whose claim to fame is having lots of ink on his body. And I'm sure outside of Florida, no one knows Justin Miller is pitching for us. Hell, I'm sure that IN Florida most people don't know Justin Miller is pitching for us. So let's say we throw him out there in the 8th inning. One of two things happen. Either he'll continue to be lights out, it will raise his profile, give him even better statistics, and increase the money he'd get as a free agent or in arbitration. Or he'll crumble under pressure and be the 5+ ERA pitcher he's been his whole life, damage his psyche and now we have no one in our pen to turn to. He's working perfectly fine where he is, at this point in time there's no reason to move him around. Next year, if he's back with the club, he could get a look and see if he's still got the same stuff to be our 8th inning guy. But right now, I don't think there's any reason to move him.

Perhaps I just don't understand this concept. If this year is a bust, why not try Justin Miller out in the 8th? Doesn't that make more sense? Perhaps I'm just lost. Am I not mistaken that we were shopping Mando at the deadline anyways? So chances are he wasn't in our plans for the rest of the year?

Exactly! Moving him into the 8th will show how much confidence the club has in him. Might even give him more confidence. I think he has proven all season he deserves a more important role.

I dont think it really matters. Somone else probably blows them. The marlins are a bad team with benitez and julio or without them.

While I'm all for trying him out in the 8th, I'm still a little skeptical about that guy that has stunk it up his whole career and is suddenly lights out now. Something sounds like it's going to crumble.

 

Still, if it's not crumbling so far, why not push it a bit to see if it's for real? The guy might have turned a corner... it *does* happen to some guys late in their careers. I say put Justin Miller in the 8th and see what happens.
