August 21, 200718 yr So I'm looking into buying a car. I am zoning in on the following 07 models: 1. Toyota Corolla-My top preference because of my previous use of Toyotas. I'd like to get it under 15k with ABS, but have been having a tough time. 2. Nissan Sentra-Less preferred, unless I can get it with ABS and less of a price. 3. Hyundai Elantra-I have heard both sides of this. Hyundais are bad cars, go Japanese. Hyundais are catching up, plus that warranty is key. It's also best for the price when one includes ABS. 4. Honda Civic-Would like it, but don't think I can afford it. So any suggestions?
August 21, 200718 yr Check out Suzuki....I have a 2006 Grand Vitara Luxury 2WD and love it. They have the SX4 and Aerio which I have heard people raving about...both bring lots of extras including ABS and side airbags.
August 21, 200718 yr FWIW, I own a 2005 Elantra and I love it. You get the most value for your money and the warranty is great, even though I've never needed it. Handles great, smooth ride, great interior space, very good gas mileage. Only thing not so great is the acceleration, but thats not uncommon in the class.
August 21, 200718 yr Can't go wrong with any of those choices. I'd probably go Corolla, Elantra, Civic, then Sentra. You should also consider the Jetta/Rabbit, Focus, Mazda3, etc.
August 21, 200718 yr Author Thanks guys. The key for me is trying to balance price/monthly payment. With what I'm putting down, the monthly payment is manageable for me to spend around 15k. I'm positive I can get an 07 Elantra with ABS and side airbags with money to spare. I have been trying to fit the Corolla(got a good price but no ABS) and the Sentra(hesitant about whether it is worth paying more for this over the Elantra) with really no success with the Civic. I would love a Jetta, but it is just outside of my price range, unless I go carmax. I never thought about Suzuki. I'm going to read up on it. Ross, good to see that you like your Elantra. It's where I am leaning as I do agree that it seems to be the best bang for the buck.
August 21, 200718 yr I never thought about Suzuki. I'm going to read up on it. I really like mine and the warranty is excellent. I had an incident with my XM Radio that knocked out one of my A/C vents and they replaced it for free in about 45 minutes after the part came in on order. Suzuki also has more dealers, at least in areas I frequent, compared to other import brands like Hyundai or Kia. Take advantage of the special rebates Suzuki offers too. In Florida alone, Suzuki has 40 dealers with the majority being in South Florida. I went to mine (Colonial Suzuki) for an oil change and looked at all the SX4s on the lot while waiting.....very impressive little cars. If you can wait and want a sedan, an SX4 sedan is coming soon. BTW, the SmartPass System PWNS! I have it in my Grand Vitara and it is really nice to have. SX4 Sports and XL7s have it as well I believe.
August 22, 200718 yr I bought a 07 Corolla Sport last year when they were first released... I got it around 16.. But it came with a spoiler, fog lights, etc etc etc.... you can get a plain one for under 15..
August 23, 200718 yr I love my Corolla. its what I would choose, but I am biased, although most here tend to be biased anyway. only problems i have had with my corolla are my own doing and the tires were crap on it, but thats a minor detail if you arent driving 40k miles a year.
August 23, 200718 yr If you're looking for a new car to get you from one point to another, and you're trying to save as much money as possible i would recommend for you to but the Yaris. It starts at about 11,500 and it makes around 40 MPG on the highway and 34 MPG in the city.
August 23, 200718 yr Honda Civic! I love my 2007 its been worth every penny. Agreed...I have an '05 and it has been amazing. Got it for a pretty damn good price too.
August 23, 200718 yr I drive a Honda Element. It's a real good chilling car, and it's water proof inside so when i go to the beach i don't need to worry about the sand or people getting in my car wet. It's awesome.
August 23, 200718 yr When my parents bought my car, my moms boss told her about this website(that is great) to go on www.edmund.com on that website you put in which car you want and the area you live in and dealers will contact you almost immediately!! we have a couple thousand dollars with out traveling all over town getting quotes!!
