August 21, 200718 yr I want to download madden 08 for pc, but I am at my college dorm at FSU. I dont know how strict there policy is but I dont want to risk anything. Normally I buy everything that I play, but I dont really feel like paying $40 for a roster upgrade- apparently, the pc game hasn't changed at all. Is using torrents safe? Or is using sites like rapidshare, megashare, etc better? Also, if anyone goes to FSU, can you tell me how strict they are on their piracy policy? Thanks.

August 21, 200718 yr I have several friends that got hammered while using torrents at a variety of colleges. I'd stay away unless you know someone in the tech department and ask them point blank what the rules are. They'd know for sure.

There's no way to tell that gigs at a time are being funneled through a single port on a managed switch or identifying which port corresponds to which jack in which room or finding the mac address that is hard coded in your nic and matching all of that to the computer plugged in to the network port on your University's managed network. They would never knock on your door, identify the jack, verify the mac address on your system and identify you as the culprit through system logs either. Network Admins are idiots anyway and would NEVER look for suspicious traffic like that and CERTAINLY do not have automated scripts running to alert them to suspicious traffic. Not that I have personally put two professors in handcuffs for nastier stuff or seen anyone get nailed by the FBI or anything. :thumbup

August 21, 200718 yr Music wise, you can use ruckus for free but that doesn't have as well as a catalog as illegal sites and it doesn't allow burning onto cd's to put into itunes. So what my roommate did was download a converter for 15 bucks and it works fine, I will be doing the same.

August 21, 200718 yr I downloaded music at school, though never through torrents. My suitemate gt caught using torrents, but I only downloaded through Rapidshare, Yousendit, and the sort, and never got in trouble...
August 21, 200718 yr They won't get you for downloading from any of those free upload sites. You could be downloading a rar of your friends vacation pictures. It isn't always music or a program although it usually is. I just wouldn't torrent. I couldn't deal with that though which is one of many reasons I'm glad I lived off campus. I couldn't stand not be able to torrent like I'd want to.

August 21, 200718 yr a friend said that u can dl torrents as long as it doesnt have a tracker....he ges to UCF...idk how to find a trackerless torrent so i wont be doing it. and i will probably go home once a week since im 45 mins away so i can dl torrents then....for music projectplaylist is alright but u cant know the bitrate until after u dl it.

August 22, 200718 yr I feel horrible for those professors!!!!!!!!! FBI has a lot of nerve picking on people. Don't feel too bad... they were hosting some nasty stuff and ABSOLUTELY deserved it. I don't want to go much further than that.
August 22, 200718 yr Idk know about torrents but you can download music in doems. Limewire and Bearshare are blocked for me but I found this program called ares and it works fine. You can get anything that you want on it .
August 22, 200718 yr FSU's policy is "just say no" to bad downloading. That includes downloading legitimate software that may contain spyware/malware.
