The Marlins have filled six of their seven allotted Arizona Fall League slots. The players headed west for the five-week, six-team circuit that runs from Oct. 9 through the Nov. 17 championship game: catcher Brett Hayes, outfielder Jai Miller, infielder Chris Coghlan, and pitchers Scott Nestor, Craig Molldrem and Ross Wolf.

The Marlins' contingent will play for the Peoria Saguaros. Triple-A Albuquerque pitching coach Rich Gale will serve in the same capacity with the Saguaros.

interesting on the offensive end.... not so much on the pitching

Who will be the lucky #7?

It seems like with the exception of Coghlan, their not dipping below AA for the AFL. Have they invited anyone from Greensboro to the AFL before?

Highly doubt they would send a young guy

If they would it might be Daniel Garcia down in Greensboro,I know the brass is high on him but he needs to work on his fielding ALOT!!

Doubt Morrison,Cousins,Burns All have played alot already this year and Morrison and Burns both look they could use some rest instead of more baseball

More than likely #7 would be a Marceaux,Kris Harvey,or Spike

I would like it to be Daniel Garcia or better yet Jose Campusano (Not sure if he will back tho in time)

They got the AFL rosters up on BA

Florida is sharing a team with Philly,Det,SD,LAD

Pitching on this team is not that strong with Orenduff and Greg Miller of LA,Savery who was a 1st Round Pick, and Jair Jurrjens of Det but doubt he goes if injury is still there

Looks like Brett Hayes will be catching alot, Chris Coghlan should also play alot at 2B

but

Check out this OF WOW!!!

Greg Golson

  • 2 weeks later...

AFL bat stats as of 10/25

Coghlan continues to blister the desert...

.406 (13-32), 3 R, 5 RBI, 3 BB, 2 SO, SB (0 for 3) -- .916 OPS (.447 OBP)

Hayes, has cooled off a bit as he has a couple hitless games. But from what I understand he is hitting the ball hard and playing well..

.242 (8-33), 4 R, 3 2B; 1 3B, 4 BB, 7 SO

Jai completes the desert trifecta and has also been showing his growing power at the plate...

.267 (12-45), 3 2B; 1 3B; 1 HR, 8 RBI, 2 R, 4 BB, 15 SO (ouch)

The pitching we sent over has been dismal at best, with Nolasco leading the way allowing 7 ER in 11.2 IP. Scott Nestor has allowed 4 ER in 5.1 IP, and Molldrem is holding a ridiculous 11 ER in 6 IP.

Nolasco update from the AFL...

MIAMI -- Some life has returned to Ricky Nolasco's fastball.

Pitching for the Peoria Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League, Nolasco's fastball was clocked recently in the mid 90s, according to his agent, Matt Sosnick.

Nolasco, one of four Florida rookies to reach double-digits in wins in 2006, had an injury-interrupted '07. Twice he went on the disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow, and he finished up the season pitching at Triple-A Albuquerque.

At the Fall League, the Marlins are looking for Nolasco to log some lost innings.

After some initial soreness from inactivity, Sosnick said of Nolasco, "Now he's throwing in the mid-90s." In four AFL starts, Nolasco still is showing signs of rust. He suffered the loss on Thursday night, giving up three runs over three innings while throwing 45 pitches. He is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA for Saguaro, and on the positive side, he has struck out 10 in 11 2/3 innings.

After todays game Jai is hitting .310/.349/.448 in the AFL. He does have 18 K's in 15 Games but he isnt disspointing out there.

3/4

Nolasco had a nice outing today against Team USA (pretty solid lineup):

5 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 K, 0 R. 54 pitches, 32 strikes. Only thing I noticed was a lot of fly ball outs (half infield pop-ups.) 10 FO/1 GO.

AFL totals: 16.2 IP, 14 H, 3 BB, 14 K, 3.78 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, .229 BAA.
