October 25, 200323 yr Author We have some GOOD NEWS! According to ESPN.com Morning After, the coaching staff actually REALIZES that Jay Fiedler sucks, and that we need a QB badly: Heard in the pressbox ? No matter how the rest of the season plays out, the Miami Dolphins have already decided to make quarterback their top offseason priority. Even though the coaching staff goes to great lengths to defend Jay Fiedler, it knows, as does management that he isn't going to be a guy who ever gets the franchise to a Super Bowl. There has been plenty of rhetoric about Mark Brunell wanting to play in Miami, but don't count on it, for any number of reasons. The preference is to get a veteran for a year or so, maybe even (Brian) Griese if he reduces his financial demands, although no one is sold on him yet, either. But the push will be to get a quarterback in the draft, perhaps even the first round, or to trade for a young guy, like (Drew) Henson. There are financial ramifications, too, with Fiedler. He is due a $2 million option bonus by next March 14, is scheduled to earn a base salary of $5.775 million, and has a cap charge of $7.57 million. He's just not worth it. He's like the little girl with the curl. When he's good, he's good. But when he's bad, like (on Sunday), well, you know the rest. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor..._len&id=1641626 Again, I'd say the Griese deal was a huge blunder and it won't be until the offseason that we can acquire a *good* starting QB, but why not go with what you have right now, over Fiedler? Hopefully Brian's toe will be alright, and hopefully Jay will elect to stay injured this Sunday.

October 26, 200323 yr Author Good news... it looks like Brian will get his first start on Monday night. Bad news... Mark Dixon is NOT coming back (argh) From the Sun-Sentinel: Griese probably gets first start Monday Griese probably gets first start Monday By Michael Cunningham Staff Writer Posted October 26 2003 Davie ? All signs are pointing to Brian Griese getting his first start at quarterback for the Dolphins on Monday night at San Diego. Coach Dave Wannstedt didn't make it official Saturday, but starter Jay Fiedler missed practice for the second consecutive day with a sprained left knee. Fiedler, who said he still has "a little bit of instability" in the knee, had one day of significant practice all week while Griese took all of the snaps with the first-team offense Friday and Saturday. All that indicates Griese, a starter with the Broncos the past four seasons, will face the Chargers for the fifth time in his career and the second time at Qualcomm Stadium. Last season, Griese was 26 of 35 for 316 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception, in a 29-6 victory at Mile High Stadium. The Chargers have changed some of their defensive personnel since then, but Griese said he still could draw from that experience. "Same coordinator [Dale Lindsey], some of the same guys, [and] I have played in the stadium quite a few times," Griese said. "So I should feel pretty comfortable." Wannstedt said Fiedler would be available in some capacity if he doesn't start, but that he hadn't made up his mind whether Fielder would be the backup or the emergency quarterback. Fiedler said he would next test the knee Monday. He took practice reps Thursday but was held out the next two days on the advice of doctors. Fiedler, who missed six starts because of an injury in 2002, suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in the fourth quarter of the Dolphins' 19-13 defeat last Sunday. He was able to play in overtime with a brace on the knee but said the brace "doesn't help" when the knee is at certain angles. Griese last played Dec. 22 at Oakland. He was a healthy scratch for Denver's season-finale against Arizona, the first indication that coach Mike Shanahan was ready to move on without him. The Dolphins, who believe the performance of backup quarterback Ray Lucas last season was a major reason they missed the playoffs, quickly moved to sign Griese after he was released in June. Griese started slowly and then suffered a badly sprained left toe Aug. 22 and didn't return to practice until Sept. 29. Griese said his doctor told him at the start of the week that he shouldn't fear going all out on the toe but that he would be in pain the rest of the season. "It is just something I am going to have to deal with, but it feels pretty good," Griese said. It had been over two months since Griese got significant work with the starters. He said his timing with his receivers benefited most from the increased repetitions, and that his teammates were able to get a feel for "the little things" such as his snap count cadence. DIXON OUT Dolphins offensive lineman Mark Dixon missed practice for the second consecutive day and was declared out. It is the third time Dixon has aborted a return because of his bothersome right ankle, which has been surgically repaired twice since training camp. Fullback Rob Konrad (knee) and defensive tackle Admin Chester (shoulder/neck) will start, Wannstedt said. ... The Dolphins are preparing Sam Simmons to return some punts in place of Charlie Rogers. Simmons also is expected to line up deep with Rogers on kickoffs.

November 16, 200322 yr The O line is the problem-fix the O line than you wont have a prob. with the QB.
November 16, 200322 yr Author The O line is the problem-fix the O line than you wont have a prob. with the QB. ooof, i remember this thread. yes, i agree, the offensive line sucks monkeys. jay fiedler also blows, but the offensive line is worse. not that it matters that jay fiedler blows, since brian griese sucks, too. START SAGE ROSENFELS! :lol :banghead hopefully whoever's in charge during the offseason will have the brains to figure out which side of the ball we need more talent on
November 17, 200322 yr Well offensive line pass protection was better tha naytime this year and Griese couldn't do jack.Jay Fiedler will be back next week.
November 17, 200322 yr Minus you have definitely proved me wrong on Griese/Fiedler. I thought Griese was worlds better then Jay. But turns out that Griese is much worse then Fiedler with the same personell. If I were Wannstedt I'd put Fiedler in there. But I still don't believe Jay is some kind of All Pro at QB.

November 21, 200322 yr This Brian Griese thing is working out real well. :thumbdown Lets see who gets the start this week. :mischief2
November 21, 200322 yr even if u hate fiedler-you still should stop to think before saying brian g. should start. they both have had thier share of troubles.
November 21, 200322 yr Author even if u hate fiedler-you still should stop to think before saying brian g. should start. they both have had thier share of troubles. whom are you talking to? fiedler was performing horrendously at QB. brian griese was unproven, but he has been good before and even went to the pro bowl. i think anyone with half a brain could've told you that brian griese deserved a shot when this thread was started. if you look at the stats up there, you'd see that griese has been superior to fiedler his entire career. you should stop to think and perhaps look at the date of this thread before you make your comments. now it's pretty clear they both suck. if they can stop the pass rush like they did last week, griese should start again. it'll still be tough if the run blocking is poor and ricky cant get any yards, but it won't be the QB's fault if we lose. if they think they wont be able to stop the pass rush (which might be the case since we got 2 more OL injuries last week), then we need jay to start because he can actually run away from pass rushers. if your linemen cant stop pass rushers, then you NEED a mobile QB. of course, jay would have to be healthy enough to be mobile this weekend, so it's still a big question mark. regardless, they're both horrendous, and i'm glad they won't be back next season.

November 21, 200322 yr Author KILL HIM!? TAKE HIM OUT OF THERE ALREADY!!! #$!$#@#$#$%%@!#$ START BRIAN GRIESE! I withya this is what i was talking about... yeah, i know. i'm referring to the date on that quote (oct 19). fiedler sucked and griese clearly deserved a shot. now we know they both suck. i'm leaning towards fiedler considering our offensive line troubles.
November 21, 200322 yr ok-i thought at the beg. of the year that we had 2 great QB's-its not all the O lines fault.
