Cody Ross

Featured Replies

well since alejandro, im sure, will get a good look at center field next year i also think that cody ross should get a serious look as well. He is great defensively with lots of power and has 10 home runs in only 48 games this year compared to when he had 13 in 99 games last year. And we all thought he did a great job last year. On top of that his average is up about 100 points and i think that if he can maintain and stay consistant he can be a great ball player. But...everyone always brings up the fact that maybe becuase he doesnt play everyday is the reason as to why hes been successful. Regardless, i still think that he deserves a shot.

It sucks big stuff that Willingham could not become a good catcher, because imagine if we could keep his bat in there as the catcher, and have cody out there on LF. *Dreams*

How about Cody in LF, Willy at first, and Treanor/someone other than Miguel "Allergic to Walks" Olivo at catcher?

Because if he plays full time against righties Cody Ross is going to hit .200

nah.

He's hitting .250 against lefties this year, with 3 hrs and 9 rbi (per espn), and more than .300 against righties....I'd bet that he hits at least .250 with 20 hrs and 70 ribbies full time. Plus he isn't a liability defensively either. I think he deserves a shot.

Those stats are false.

vs righties: .279/.367/.588 (before today he was at .250 vs righties)

vs lefties: .404/.500/.809

well buddy I just posted what ESPN said... :confused

Your ESPN is broken

says lefty: .404, righty: .250 for me (not updated for todays game, obviously).

And while he isn't a deffensively liability when it comes to fielding, arm, ect., he doesn't have good enough range to be an everyday CF. It's fine against lefties when his bat more then makes up for his range in CF, but against righties he's a career (lot more ABs = lot better sample size = better projection useage) .212 hitter against RHP with a sub .650 OPS.

I don't think De Aza has earned serious consideration yet to get the starting CF job next season. Either the Marlins acquire someone or they find a solid platoon mate to hit vs. RHP.

DeAza seems to be having a real hard time with that off speed stuff. Something he really needs to work on in the off season. His D hasn't been bad, but with such a limited amount of time seeing him during the regular season... Unless someone else is brought in he should be the leading candidate going into ST. And I would think Olivo is history so a real starting catcher will be the main signing this off season.

Limited payroll. Miggy is going to get more $$$ even if he does leave his glove in the dugout most games. DTrain will get more, for some reason or other (if he is still here, and the way he has been pitching I don't think we can get as much as we will want for him). We have a couple others eligible for arbitration (Gregg and Kensing to name two?) that we will want to keep. And a couple FAs that we may want to hang onto. Boone jumps right to the front of my mind. He hasn't done anything that makes me think we wouldn't want him back in that role next year.

To me that means even tho we will be spending more on payroll next year we won't be seeing big changes on the roster. So buy new TVs and complain about ownership while the few and the proud attend the games. I don't expect any big rise in attendance until about a year before the new pond is ready to open.

lmao I just realized that I had flipped the stats hahaha righty was lefty and vice versa, so you are right. Sorry lol

But yeah, he isn't Beltran out there, but he is not that bad.

We need to put Hammer at 1st, auction off Jake and get an FA or 2. I'd be more concerned with getting arms rather than position players, though. Treanor has been as close to adequate as you can get, and we have some CF options; between Ross, Amezaga, Carroll, and you never know... Reggie could become viable at the highest level, since he continues to own every other level.

I think going into next year Cody has earned the job as the CF vs lefties and I don't care if he struggles next ST.

I agree. Unless we bring in a legit fulltime CFer, he's our guy against lefties because he absolutely mashes them.

I have never seen such a little man with so much power. Rickey Henderson maybe... but Rickey was ripped.

see i dont think reggie will be anything more than a AAAA player. he may own every other level but he hasnt owned the one that matters. and it seems like everyone wants jacobs gone but realistically im very sure that jacobs is going to be the 1B of the future. lately its looking like he is finding some kind of groove and i doubt the front office will be "auctioning him off". as for cody i definetly would like to see him get a shot at a full time CF job. i think hes earned it or at least a full time platoon with him and amezaga, if ur still concerned about him hitting against RHP

IMO, we need to keep amezaga as the utility guy, not the everyday cf. If any platoon should be made in CF, if should be De Aza and Ross. However, Im all for giving hte full time job to De Aza.

De Aza had month to earn the job and he fumbled it. Reggie had chances last year and again this year and he fumbled it. If anything give Carroll a shot the next 4 weeks. He did nothing when he was here earlier but it wasn't much of a shot as it was only for about a week or two.
