Nothing would make me happier than seeing Hanley beat out Chase Utley for the batting title.

Same here, Utley is third on my list of most hated players trailing only Jose Reyes and David Wright.

Utley is not only first on my list, he's 1-10 on my list. I hate him oh so very much.

I've believed for awhile that Hanley has a chance to become the greatest player to ever wear a Marlins uniform, and that includes Miguel Cabrera and Gary Sheffield. Assuming he can improve the other half of his game there appears nothing in his way to becoming a huge force in major league baseball for a decade or longer.

I couldn't help but notice a line in the story that confirms he's been playing hurt all season and perhaps it explains his lack of mobility, especially to his right (it is after all his left/glove shoulder that is problematic and going to his right means extending and possibly hyper-extending his left shoulder across his body) may in fact be instructions from management (onfield or upstairs) to not extend himself in fear of exacerbating that injury. If you notice when he ranges to his right it is almost always by circling the ball as if to keep his glove in front of him. He does move fairly well to his left, which only reinforces my suspicion.

Earlier I thought he might be our centerfielder of the future (something some thought absurd but I'm not afraid to be criticized for thinking outside the box) but I also wonder whether his future could at third where there may be less demand on his surgically repaired shoulder. Even though I'm not ready to jettison Jacobs were Cabrera to wind up at first and a healthy Hanley at third, filling the shortstop position might be an easier task than some alternative scenarios. And even though I'll be bashed again, I wouldn't rule out him moving to the OF depending on how his surgery goes, thinking of Soriano's move as the most obvious example.

In any event his ascendancy to superstardom seems inevitable if he isn't there already. It's great to see him get the acknowledgment he so richly deserves. If this isn't a guy who should be locked up and quickly for as long as possible I don't know who is. I'll leave it to others to calculate what the deal would look like but it has to happen sooner rather than later.

Let's hope this is just the beginning of more and more national recognition for the kid, he deserves it.

My list consists of

1) That loudmouth by the name of Jimmy Rollins.

2) Bonds

3) Utley

4) Soriano

5) The Atlanta Braves

I actually don't hate Reyes, I hate Steve Phillips and the people who drink his Reyes kool-aid.

I'd be more than in favor of moving Cabrera to first but I don't think you can take the legs out from underneath Hanley by putting him at third. Putting him in center field and looking for a shortstop sounds good to me but I don't think ownership goes for it anytime soon, at least.

Ramirez has often dominated the game this season the way Michael Jordan would take over the final minutes of an NBA Finals game.

great quote!
