God I hope they don't let him pitch both ends of winter ball again this off-season.

PINTO!!!! Wow, I'm surprised I am happy, considered that I thought him, along with Matt Herges, the bane of my existence by then he of last season.

Can we plz give Pinto a couple of starts? :thumbup

He'll be out of the bullpen for us for the rest of the season.

Big return: Confidence has been contagious throughout the Marlins' clubhouse, and it only took reliever Renyel Pinto three pitches to catch a case of it when he returned to the mound Saturday night.

 

Pinto, who had been on the disabled list since Aug. 3 with a left shoulder strain, saw his first action in over a month with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth, with Todd Helton at the plate representing the tying run.

 

"How bout that?" said Gonzalez, who had said that he would ease Pinto back with a low-key situation rather than putting him in to face the likes of Helton in the eighth. "No pressure. I said in the eighth. This was the fifth."

 

In hindsight, jumping right back into the fire may have been good for Pinto, giving him an immediate mental boost.

 

"I was surprised; I was thinking I wasn't going to come in that situation, but they put me there and I had to do a good job," Pinto said. "In that situation, I tried to get away from [Helton] and then throw a fastball outside. He was looking for a pitch to tie the game. I threw a changeup a little bit high to him. Then I tried to come with a sinker down to get a ground ball."

 

After throwing two balls, including a changeup that had Helton ducking to avoid being plunked in the helmet, Pinto got him on a sinker outside, inducing a lazy grounder to first to escape the jam.

 

"I feel good," Pinto said Sunday, glad to have tested his shoulder and his stuff, acing each test. "Now I have more confidence. My first outing coming back, you worry if you're going to do good or bad. That was pretty good for me."

 

And good for Florida, which bounced back from the threat to immediately double the score in its next at-bat, thanks to Miguel Cabrera's first career grand slam.
