October 3, 200719 yr http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...F6?OpenDocument does anyone know what the Cards young talent is and how it matches up with us?
October 3, 200719 yr IF Dontrelle still has reasonably high trade value, the Cards are a poor fit. Not so sure about that.... a package involving Colby Rasmus and Bryan Anderson would be awesome and for those who don't know, Colby is a power hitting CF, while Anderson has hit .298 or better in 3 years in the minors as a catcher
October 3, 200719 yr The Cardinals farm system is one of the poorest in baseball. They for the most part dont scout or draft well. They have a few (very possible)successes, Rasmus and Anderson among them, but overall they dont have much in the way of prospects. Rasmus, well we could of had in 2005(we picked twice before he was taken and had our 3rd pick immediately after), and I wish we would of taken him. Anderson looks like Joe Mauer v2, defense isnt quite as good but the stick is excellent, and he is improving defensively. They have a few others worth noting, such as Chris Perez and Joe Mather, but not much else.
October 3, 200719 yr the cardinals want to move anderson, and trust me, you guys want him. i saw him play for a three game series in springfield, missouri. (family ties) and this kid was good to say the least. the only reason he is not in the majors is cause molina. the cardinals wont move molina anytime soon, but this kid needs to be the majors. he hit 3 home runs in the series i saw him in, and filled in at first base for an inning or two. anderson is the real deal, while rasmus had 19 homeruns when i saw him, not sure what he finished with.
October 3, 200719 yr very very doubtful they move Colby. He's suppose to take over CF once Edmonds' contract is up after next season.

October 3, 200719 yr I'd like Duncan and Wainwright..... We have no room for Duncan... that and I thought we were trying to improve on defense

October 3, 200719 yr Intelligent people with similar goals and the ability to work together in a manner that gives each what they need in exchange for what they're giving up, can make a deal. At this point I don't know how you set a value on Dontrelle (and I'm not in "let's move Dontrelle" camp anyways) if you're the Marlins' GM or one interested in acquiring him. I would guess the first thing that happens if there is a semblance of a deal is confirm between both parties the condition of Dontrelle's arm and shoulder, whether it be through reviewing medical records or requiring an MRI to get to the next step, because if Dontrelle is in fact healthy and his problem is mechanical, he's worth significantly more than if his health is a question mark. It very well might be a healthy Dontrelle is worth some or all the players being mentioned here, either by himself or as a multi-player two-sided trade, but I am reminded of Beinfest's maxim, "always get pitching back in return" so I would assume the deal would have to include at least one meaningful Cards minor league pitching prospect as part of the mix. But we're all getting way ahead of ourselves based on the supposition of one reporter in a city, far, far away.
October 3, 200719 yr id rather us see if we can sign dtrain to a discount deal... if we get rid of him we have absolutely nobody who can replace his 35 starts. if anything hes worth keeping because of the innings he eats.

Anderson and Rasmus would be wonderful. Ramp Hanley played a little bit at 2B in the minors I believe how was his defense there at the time? Wild speculation hanley to 2nd and Uggla for pitching and use andino at SS? It seems beinfest really likes him defensively always.

I'd say "off limits" isn't a term to throw around lightly in speculative Dontrelle deals. A year ago, certainly, but not anymore.
October 4, 200719 yr I'd do it for Yadier straight does anyone get the fact that the cardinals are NOT trading yadier molina? and thats the reason this thread was about bryan anderson being moved...
October 4, 200719 yr Yadier is essentially a defense only catcher. For sure, not a bad thing. And Cardinals fans are enamored with him. But Anderson could most certainly be an elite offensive catcher in the NL whos defense is average right now and should get better.
October 4, 200719 yr EDIT: I see this was already posted in MLB forum: Of course what's being discussed here is based on one reporter's thoughts on what happens next with the St. Louis Cardinals. The answer: Walt Jocketty St. Louis GM was just fired. I won't bother to post the whole story here but here's the link Jocketty Gone My guess is it's going to be a while before any move in Dontrelle's direction is made, if at all. Or the opposite could be true that the new GM wants to make a big splash. Stay tuned.
