  1. As a Nationals season ticket holder, I can tell you that Nationals Park broke ground in May 2006 and was opened by late March 2008. And you don't have to worry about the winter preventing construction (although rain or, even worse, a hurricane could slow things down). As long as you break ground by early 2009, you should be ready for opening day 2011. With the economy the way it is, I would be more worried about obtaining the money. Good luck. true, but the difference between the nats ballpark and ours is that the nats dont have a retractable roof. that adds time to construction. and yes, we can play a half a season in dolphin stadium then switch. its happened a bunch of times before: seattle did it most recently. the heat even did it, they moved from mia arena to aaa after the first of the year.
  2. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! But it's not for any of those reasons. We didn't need Manny and I feel we were giving up too much. Giving up what exactly ? A bust 1st rounder ? We'd have a chance to get 2 1st round picks in next years draft when Manny deserted us after the season. The Marlins would have made a statement to their players that they are serious, instead the players now know that this front office will never be about winning, but just about being as cheap as they can. Only an ignorant person would call a 24 year old, already in the big leagues a bust. :whistle Being 24 and being in the big leagues isn't a reflection of talent, its a reflection of our needing someone cheap and affordable to play right field. What about Hermida's 2nd half #'s last year? Is that a reflection of talent? How about waiting till a player reaches his prime before calling him a bust? i am very happy you get to keep your sig :notworthy

  5. Yes, short term only and possible disruption of team chemistry. Nevertheless, Marlins are in need of a marquee player, if nothing else to bring the fans out. No Cabrerra's on this squad and I think it's reflected in fan interest/attendance. we have a marquee player, and he also happens to be named ramirez
  6. I'm broke, but I will try to get some tickets for tomorrow. then rob someone. yes, its that important. (hopefully everyone who reads this has a sense of humor and realizes i am only kidding about the robbery part)
  7. everyone with half a brain knows it isnt a legal arguement, but the braman team is going to try their hardest to argue that it is. the reason why they are taking that approach is that it is the only one left for them. this trial has become a complete joke and a total waste of money.
  8. Why couldn't we have built a new version of the Roman Colosseum. That would of have been nice. only if we have david samson and norm braman fight to the death in the outfield
  9. The Marlins and the City and County should not settle anything with this idiot. Beat him in court so he will shut the heck up for good! Regardless if they could win or not, settlement is always preferable to a court case. Hopefully something can be worked out. exactly. a settlement also keeps braman from going after the stadium again, whereas if he loses in court he will probably try to appeal.
  10. tomorrow's the big day For sure? Big day = court day... I am actually pretty excited Can it really be over by Thursday? What is going to happen? I hope it gets thrown out, but if not I hope its settled same day. even if the trial ends in one day, the judge usually doesnt give her decision right then. i would guess next week we will know the outcome. not like it really matters... we know braman has no shot at winning
  11. No, but that second one looks like a plan for when they were going to build a soccer stadium on site in addition to the ballpark. That is no longer happening. That other stadium, I believe, was the OB that was going to be renovated. These are all from the old plan of building the new stadium next to the OB. Don't turn off the lights on a Soccer stadium yet for Miami. why you know something? we have to wait until 2012 now... we passed the june deadline.
  12. this could all be taken care of this guy is whacked.... i mean... GO MARLINS! ummm, probably not a good idea to post stuff like this... where do you think the first place the cops will look on the internet if braman happens to wind up dead this weekend? just keep that in mind in the future.
  13. ok wtf... where the hell is the article? everyone is talking and excited but nobody has an article. just one guy went on and said volstad has been called up. i dont buy it. if someone has a link could you please post it? that would make me feel a whole lot better. but if it is true i am pretty damn excited.
  14. thats three millers we have on the active roster... two who's first name start with a j. wonder how thats going to work out...
  15. Cabrera was in the derby and it didn't effect him at all so? it doesnt affect everybody, obviously. but there are well documented cases of seasons turning to shi'ite because of slight alterations to a swing that can occur to swinging for the fences over and over and over again. he could also very easily pull a muscle or something its just way too much of a risk for something that adds absolutely nothing to our quest for the nl east. yeah, it would be very entertaining, id love to see him win, but it makes absolutely no sense. every single person here will be bitching to no end if he hurts himself or if his production drops afterwards. they should probably do away with the derby entirely... but they wont because too much money is made off of it.
  16. I have been to chat rooms, message boards, forums and so on and so forth. One very dissapointing thing I hear from other fans though is "Wow Dolphins Stadium looks packed how many fans showed up 200?" It bothers me but I can always use history especially on the Phillie fans (Phillies -1980, Marlins- 1997,2003) I know no one on this board can really do anything about the attendance at Dolphins stadium (Terrible Stadium, wayyyy overpriced) but I only hope we get the new stadium deal figured out and finalized "SOON" so I can sleep better at night. Another thing, its nice to see a Marlins website, created by Marlins fans, with a "DECENT AMOUNT" of Marlins Fans here on a daily basis. Another big thing, little to no flaming, trolling, spamming, everyone does their job here and it makes everything that much better. Props to the Marlins Staff here. :notworthy :thumbup here is your comeback: yeah, there may be only three fans here, but i guarantee you those are the three biggest, most dedicated fans anywhere in the country. id like to see you follow and regularly attend games for a $20mil payroll team that the local media constantly poops on (despite how well we play) in a hot, humid, rainy, uncomfortable, oversized football stadium that is at least a half-hour away from 90% of the fans. look at the atlanta braves, for example. in the eighties, almost nobody went to their games except for a small core of diehards. when the braves finally started to win in the 90s those diehards who stuck with their team wore their loyalty to the braves through the bad times as a badge of honor. so will we. You see that as a negative?? I see that as a plus. Even tho I would argue the "90%" stat. Even if those that live south of the stadium argue the traffic flow means they have to drive 30 minutes or so to the stadium I have never heard any of them complain about the trip home. So what is it? 45 minutes round trip? To have the priveledge of seeing MLB teams play?? I would like to see the numbers for other stadiums and the time it takes their core of fans round trip. Because I would be willing to bet we are near the bottom of that list too. to be honest, i pulled the 90% out of my butt... i have no idea what the exact percentage is, but i do know that most marlin fans are split between north broward/south pbc and the nicer parts of miami-dade... both areas are about 1/2 hour away from the stadium. it never stopped me from going to any games, but i cannot speak for the casual fan. for me, it is a plus because i live in boca and the orange bowl is another 20 min away. however, dont place me in the group of fans up here that constantly bitch about the new stadium being in miami. to me, that is the only logical place to put it... even though i have to drive farther. id way rather drive to miami than fly to san antonio.
  17. a big fat hell no. he deserves it, and would probably do a good job. but look what happened to bobby abreu... hr derbys are famous for screwing up players' swings. injury risk is also very high.
  18. If the Marlins move to another city, that should not cause you to jump ship to another team. yes it should

  20. its just conjecture, and id believe that gammons would be the first to admit it. sportswriters always mention sources, even if they are anonymous. gammons is just speculating that boston may want a short term bat to replace big poopy, and looked at all the mlb rosters to see if he could find a team with a spare starting outfielder. hammer aint going anywhere.
  21. jesus christ guys, calm the eff down. someone name the last time that the local media (other than the sun-sentinel and herald) ever got anything right about the new stadium... south florida local tv news is the worst in the country, hands down. if this really was a story, and it really had wheels, it would be all over the herald and sun-sentinel.
  22. unfortunately, we arent getting the soccer stadium. we needed to secure a franchise by the june 1 deadline set by either the county or the city (or both, i forgot which) in order to get the sss built next to the marlins stadium. not only did we not get a team, but there wasnt even any movement, no potential owners emerged at all. from what i understand, the city/county moved on... i believe it means we will have a bigger ballpark village. the 17th and 18th mls teams will most likely go to st. louis and montreal. all is not lost, futbol fans... fiu offered an mls team free rent at their new stadium if they move there. imo, its more likely that a chivas usa or columbus crew move to miami (fiu) before we get an expansion team. the mls cannot ignore the south florida market forever... for obvious reasons. if any of you guys are soccer fans and want to see an mls team in miami, go to www.miamisoccerfan.com and register. I would hate to see a Soccer stadium next to our stadium. umm, why? no offense, but normally when people make an opinionated statement like that they explain why it is they feel that way. when you just say "id hate it" you add nothing to the conversation. however, i am curious as to why you would think that way... please explain yourself. Why would you want to jam two stadiums right next to each other? #1 It looks bad for the Marlins stadium #2 It looks ghetto eh, not if they do it right. id need to see the renderings first before id pass judgement, but believe me, if it looked like crap id definately be upset. dont worry though, if they build one at all it most likely will not be by the marlins stadium because they are using the proposed soccer stadium area for something else (not sure what, but id assume either more parking or a bigger ballpark village).

Chivas moving to Miami just sounds fitting... id say thats the best case scenario. they already are a competitive team... we dont have to wait for an expansion team to develop. a competitive team makes it even more likely for the market to succeed. i dont like the chivas usa name, though. id hope theyd change it. it gives them a stigma of being a farm team or something. but chivas mia is better than nothing.
