June 19, 200818 yr I certainly hope so, but I can't remember if he was invited last year or not. I don't think he was but maybe my memory fails me. If he isn't chosen, what excuse does MLB have ?
June 19, 200818 yr I think it would be funny to see a second baseman in the derby, hopefully Uggla will have more home runs then Utley before the break.
June 19, 200818 yr do we want him to be there tho? doesnt it negatively affect the swings of players that compete? eg alex rios who participated last year, only has 3 homers so far in 2008
June 19, 200818 yr I say no, i wonder why because we like a team we think everything is great with that team, if Ross hit two more homerun will we be seeing someone saying he should be in the HR derby, i think that is one of the reason Hanley is second in the voting, we should be focusing on voting for him to be a starter, instead everyone is asking to split our time on him and Uggla.
June 19, 200818 yr I think he'll be invited since he's an almost shoe in for the all-star team and has a tone of homeruns. I'd like to see a Marlin in it, I just hope it doesn't screw with his second half power numbers.

I am sorry but what are you talking about splitting the votes between Uggla and Hanley? Have you even voted? because apparently you seem not know that you can vote for both of them without compromising either player's votes. Yeah Hanley should be a starter, but Uggla more than deserves to be in the all-stars game, chances are he won't beat Uttley but he deserves to be there.

I have voted many many times, i saw where someone voted for Hanley 7.000 times then will move over to Uggla with another 7,000, what i'm saying i would rather give 14,000 to Hanley trying to make him a starter than 7,000 to Uggla hopeing he make it, JMO

That's why i vote for both of them always, instead of just concentrating on one.
June 19, 200818 yr I just vote for both at the same time like any smart person would do. I also vote for cantu but we know that's not happening. When is the last day to turn in the paper ballots? I have a stack here to turn in. plus I've been voting 25-100 times a day online (numerous fake emails) lol

June 19, 200818 yr While we are at it, we should try to get, Rich & Tommy to call the game since they are the best in baseball,
June 19, 200818 yr I say no only because just about every guy that competes in the HR derby ends up slumping a bit in the 2nd half of the season I would much rather see Uggs start at 2B in the allstar game itself than see him in the HR derby... I'd much rather put Jacobs in the HR derby if we had to have a marlin in it... just to see how he'd do
June 19, 200818 yr After what happened in 2006 (Phil Garner left Dan Uggla on the bench for the entire game. I believe he was the only NL position player on the roster not to play but I'm not 100% sure of it) I'm more interested in seeing Dan playing than whether he takes part in the Homerun Derby.
June 19, 200818 yr I'm with most of you guys, i'd rather see him in the All Star game, rather than in the Home Run Derby.
June 19, 200818 yr a big fat hell no. he deserves it, and would probably do a good job. but look what happened to bobby abreu... hr derbys are famous for screwing up players' swings. injury risk is also very high.
June 19, 200818 yr Well, would it really affect his swing? He's pretty much always swinging for the fence anyway. And he's said it before.

I didn't vote for Hanley 7,000 times..then do another seperate 7,000 for Uggla. I just did both guys on one ballot. They're right next to each other....it doesn't slow me down at all. I did the exorbitant number in hopes of winning the contest the marlins had....where I had to vote for both, anyway.
June 19, 200818 yr Cabrera was in the derby and it didn't effect him at all so? it doesnt affect everybody, obviously. but there are well documented cases of seasons turning to shi'ite because of slight alterations to a swing that can occur to swinging for the fences over and over and over again. he could also very easily pull a muscle or something its just way too much of a risk for something that adds absolutely nothing to our quest for the nl east. yeah, it would be very entertaining, id love to see him win, but it makes absolutely no sense. every single person here will be bitching to no end if he hurts himself or if his production drops afterwards. they should probably do away with the derby entirely... but they wont because too much money is made off of it.
June 19, 200818 yr I don't think it will affect Danny's swing, seeing as all he does is swing for the fences regardless.
June 19, 200818 yr I would love to see it, but I don't want anything to negative to happen to his swing. I remember Bobby Abreu dominated it, and never really found his swing after the Derby. If he was to be in it, he would have to be the favorite.
