July 31, 200817 yr Personally I'm somewhere in the middle. I would've been excited to complete the deal, but I love Jeremy so I'm cool.
July 31, 200817 yr YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! But it's not for any of those reasons. We didn't need Manny and I feel we were giving up too much.
July 31, 200817 yr I would have been excited if we got Manny... I felt down after the deal failed, but I feel better now... I think...Anibal will make me feel better.
July 31, 200817 yr I am in the middle. Would have been an exciting 2 months to say the least...but I am happy that we didnt give up Hermida and prospects for a 2 month rental. I am much more upset that we couldnt get a catcher. Texas only has 8 of them to deal. :sigh:

Well yeah I didn't want to make a 100 poll responses but thats close enough to option 1, its basically happy, mixed feelings or sad. And I agree with this reasoning as well, but it would make me feel a lot better about this non-deal if Manny looks decidedly average with the Dodgers and they fail to make the playoffs.

July 31, 200817 yr Yea we didnt get Manny... nothing we can do about it, was a cool thought but it didn't happen... Jeremy is still here and he is still the same player who rocked the Cubs @ Wrigley... We got this far with the line-up we have now, sure it is nice to get some reinforcements at the deadline, but hey guess what? WE STILL HAVE A GOOD TEAM!!!

Ohh.....i am sure the Marlins inquired and made a run at them. I am just surprised on how tight Texas was playing their plethora of catchers.
July 31, 200817 yr Yes, short term only and possible disruption of team chemistry. Nevertheless, Marlins are in need of a marquee player, if nothing else to bring the fans out. No Cabrerra's on this squad and I think it's reflected in fan interest/attendance.

We'd have a chance to get 2 1st round picks in next years draft when Manny deserted us after the season. The Marlins would have made a statement to their players that they are serious, instead the players now know that this front office will never be about winning, but just about being as cheap as they can.

They are cheap, yet the Marlins are still winning. I dont think too many people have a problem with that.

If fans can't get excited to come to a game to see a player like Hanley Ramirez...well, who cares about them?
July 31, 200817 yr Author You guys are arguing over whether fans will come to see Manny or Hanley and ignoring the elephant in the room (or more accurately, the tarp on the field). Its pointless, we're NEVER going to draw well (at least in the regular season) until that new stadium is built, with a roof.

Only an ignorant person would call a 24 year old, already in the big leagues a bust. :whistle BTW, if it was up to the Marlins they would've probably made the deal. Part of the reason, the deal wasn't made (according to reports) was b/c of the Pirates. They didn't feel they were getting enough in return. ...and I'm fine with it, personally.
