That includes entrepreneur Donald J. Trump, who says the Hurricanes should have hired Texas Tech coach Mike Leach instead of Randy Shannon to replace Admin Coker. In a letter sent this week to UM President Donna Shalala, Trump refers to Texas Tech's upset victory of No. 3 Oklahoma on Saturday and reminds Shalala that he strongly recommended that Leach be given the Hurricanes' job. Miami, on the other hand, got shellacked by (Virginia Tech), Trump wrote in his letter. "You are my friend, but you should have listened to me. If you did, your team would be fighting for the National Championship," Trump wrote. The authenticity of the letter was confirmed by Rhona Graff, Trump's executive assistant. Leach met informally in New York with a UM search committee in December that included Athletic Director Paul Dee. But according to UM sources, the meeting did not go well and Leach was not considered any further. "I got the letter and I laughed," Shalala said through a university spokesman. The Hurricanes are 5-6 heading into Saturday's regular-season finale at Boston College. A loss would keep UM out of the post-season for the first time since 1997. Shannon said he's not bothered by critics. "That's a part of the business that we're in," Shannon said Tuesday. "I'm an upbeat type of guy, not just in football, in life. Randy Shannon was out there doing quite a bit of recruiting, those arent only "Admin's players".

The recruiting classes from '03 to '05 were all top 10 classes. I think there's talent but the coaching (both Coker and Shannon) left the talent down. They've had 4 OC the last 5 years. I think it would be tough to learn a new system every year. Shannon has the Canes rated about 60th out of the 66 (or so) BCS schools. It's not the lack of talent.
November 21, 200718 yr Who cares what Donald Trump thinks about the Miami coaching situation? Hes a businessman, not a college football analyst. I dont think hes taking any real estate advice from Lee Corso Besides, not even Vince Lombardi could win with Kirby Freeman or Kyle Wright at QB

Phillips will be a first rounder in THIS YEAR'S draft. I don't see him coming back for another year when he's gonna be a top 15 pick. Campbell on the other hand might come back. He hasn't had the kind of year UM and NFL scouts were hoping for, but he's one of those few guys that could go to the combine and work his way into the top 15 with impressive workouts.
