November 21, 200718 yr I don't buy the there's no talent on the team theory. Phillips and Campbell will be 1st rounders in the '08 draft. The recruiting classes from '03 to '05 were all top 10 classes. I think there's talent but the coaching (both Coker and Shannon) left the talent down. They've had 4 OC the last 5 years. I think it would be tough to learn a new system every year. Shannon has the Canes rated about 60th out of the 66 (or so) BCS schools. It's not the lack of talent. Phillips will be a first rounder in THIS YEAR'S draft. I don't see him coming back for another year when he's gonna be a top 15 pick. Campbell on the other hand might come back. He hasn't had the kind of year UM and NFL scouts were hoping for, but he's one of those few guys that could go to the combine and work his way into the top 15 with impressive workouts. By the '08 draft I mean the draft coming up in April '08.
November 21, 200718 yr I criticized the Shannon hiring pretty strongly when it first happened, but I actually now think it was the right thing. I think we're going to own the recruiting battle down here with Shannon as coach and that, more than anything else, is the recipe for success at Da U. Their record this year doesn't bother me or change my thinking much at all. You can't win without a good QB and the guys we have right now are pretty bad. And the WRs are even worse. I remember listening to a game on the radio some time in the last couple of week, and Joe Z flat out said, "if there's anyone in Miami that can catch a football, come on down". It's bad. I highly doubt Randy Shannon was out there recruiting QBs and WRs so we really can't blame him for that. I haven't really watched the last couple weeks. Some analysts have wondered whether the team has quit on him. I don't really know. If that's the case, then maybe there is a problem. And whether that's a problem with the players, or with the coaches, I have no idea. But otherwise, I'm willing to support Shannon. And Trump? That's the last guy I'd listen to.
November 21, 200718 yr I don't give him a free pass on the offense but I can see how arguments could be made to give it to him but the defense is horrific and that's his defense and there's talent on that defense. Zagacky will throw the kids under the bus but will never be critical of the coaches. Also, Shannon is the one who picked Freeman to start. Brilliant.

November 22, 200718 yr I would love to see Dennis Erickson and ASU somehow sneak in the BCS Championship game. If they blow-out USC on national TV they could jump Ohio State and then if Oklahoma beats the Missouri vs Kansas winner and either LSU or WV stumble then it could happen. It's remote but it could happen. They need to blow-out USC tonight.
