December 6, 200718 yr The press is just having a field day with Loria & Co. :lol I think what you mean is the Huizenga-centric sports columnists are having a field day. Somehow they seem to think this will make people forget the worst franchise in South Florida has been, is and will be for many years, is the Miami Dolphins. While a number have taken shots, one would have to be blind to not recognize the pure venom being spewed by thouse employed to cover the Dolphins. Coincidence? I think not. Dude you're insane. You have really lost your mind. LORIA IS A MONEY GRUBBING PIECE OF TRASH. I worked with someone back in NY many years ago that was his nephew and the guy said the whole family HATED HIM. Said he was a back-stabbing slimeball. Exact words. You can't defend this piece of crap HOORAY, UNVERIFIABLE ANECTDOTAL EVIDENCE THAT THIS LURKER JUST PULLED OUT OF HIS ASS! Oh shut up. You're such a pseudo-intellectual. Look up the Loria family tree. The guys name was Mike Popowitz. IDIOT. You're just so cool for taking the other side of the argument, BROWN-Nosing Loser

You're just so cool for taking the other side of the argument, BROWN-Nosing Loser :lol Awesome! I especially like how you put "brown" in all caps. That was a nice touch. I mean, most people would have quit with capitalizing "idiot", but you went that extra mile. That's why you are a special talent.
December 6, 200718 yr My point was not in defense of Loria but the level of vitriol and venom coming from the Dolphin columnists.

While a number have taken shots, one would have to be blind to not recognize the pure venom being spewed by thouse employed to cover the Dolphins. Coincidence? I think not. Man, this is just wrong. The Marlins have quit on this city and their fans; the Dolphins have not. There's a categorical difference between what the Marlins and the Dolphins are doing. I can take losing. I can take a lot of losing. I'm not going to root for a franchise that continues to spit on this city and its fans. I don't know if you hate the Dolphins or whatever, but the idea that the columnists have a hidden agenda here is just a reach. They're calling it as they see it; there's no conspiracy. And I don't know if you've noticed, but they've been tearing into the incompetence at all levels of the Dolphins organization all year long, and, no, it wasn't because they were in bed with Mickey Arison or whatever.
December 6, 200718 yr My point was not in defense of Loria but the level of vitriol and venom coming from the Dolphin columnists. Whether there's a bias or not I can't fault these guys. The monkey Loria is so obviously trying to weasel his way out of Miami. That's what I'm concerned about. Because I see the writing on the wall. It's the same scenario that happened in Montreal. Same exact thing. That's why I'm so angry. I know I'll wake up one day and news of a relocation will be there. It sucks to love a team with an owner you hate so much.

You don't know that. What if I'm really good at gymnastics, but nothing else. Does that still make me a talentless idiot? Would you, then feel bad, if you found out about my gymnastic skills? I expect a full apology. Do I really make you sick? I mean, I'm not sure if I've done anything naseauting up to this point. That seems like a load of hyperbole to me.

December 6, 200718 yr I don't know if you hate the Dolphins or whatever, but the idea that the columnists have a hidden agenda here is just a reach. You are so on the mark about so much stuff it's terrific, but if you don't think when a guy who is paid to primarily cover football covers a story like this in the world of baseball the way the two I referred to are, thats it's not agenda-based I say this without malice, you're being naive.

Yup, sooner than we think Im afraid. Also it's not just the local press ripping on Loria, the National press is on the same wagon.

I have a problem with this post for the simple fact that its clearly evident that South Florida media has favored the Dolphins since the first pitch was thrown in 1993.

Well, I appreciate the compliment, and believe me, the only reason I'm responding is because I respect you...because I've read A LOT dumber things on here in the last 24 hours that I've just chosen to ignore. So, you know, let's get a room. But seriously...the idea that the Marlins ownership is guilty of a gross deriliction of duty can easily be arrived at without having a hidden agenda. If the columns were unreasonable, maybe I'd be more inclined to agree with you. But they're not unreasonable. And like I said, these same columnists have been bashing the Dolphins all year. I don't see how that's consistent with some kind of cover up. These columnists are not in the employ of the Dolphins, and I doubt the paper is receiving money from the Dolphins either. The dots just don't connect. I still believe printed newspapers like the Herald and Sentinel have journalistic standards that they try to uphold. Whatever. I don't need to defend the columnists. What I really mean to defend is the Dolphins. There's no comparison right now between these franchises.
December 6, 200718 yr The worst part of this, is there's nothing we can do about it. What are we going to do stop going to the game, WOW that will bring the attendance down to 395 from 400. Write a letter to Selig? Like he cares. There's absolutely nothing we can. That's what pisses me off, we're so powerless
December 6, 200718 yr if the taxpayers are dumb enough to buy this guy a brand spanking new stadium, why on earth would he agree to sell the team? giving this cheapskate a stadium would be the death of baseball in south florida, because it would ensure that Loria would be able to maintain ownership forever. He could now anyways thanks to revenue sharing keeping them solvent. His initial investment means absolutely nothing. All that matters now is the franchise value. With a new profitable ballpark, it goes through te roof. Maybe keep the team and the incredibly profitable first years of the park. But there's not much incentive for Loria (or any owner in a similar situation) at any point thereafter. So, with the knowledge that you have of the business of baseball, are you saying that basically we'll not see a payroll near league average any time down here? Are you saying that the franchise needs to move to somehow have this happen? Or, is there something that could be done here to make Loria, or some other owner, the financial incentive to have an average payroll? Or, if the franchise stays or moves, does it take an owner who has the financial means and the competitiveness to pay for a decent product.
December 6, 200718 yr [ its clearly evident that South Florida media has favored the Dolphins since the first pitch was thrown in 1993. mostly because South Florida itself has favored the Dolphins since the first pitch. Coverage is merely reflecting what the fans want to read about.
December 6, 200718 yr By the way, BS quote of the night from Jeffrey Loria about the Marlins' future: "Although we cannot ignore the economic realities we face, which will change the moment we are in a new facility, our determination to win on the field remains as steadfast as ever." And if you believe that, Mr. Loria has a new stadium in Montreal to sell you, cheap.
December 6, 200718 yr Author What does it take to get this piece of garbage out of here. It is so obvious what he's doing. How can Selig sit there and let this happen. I'm so heated. I can't take it anymore. PLEASE LET LORIA GET HIT BY A BUS PLEASE. It doesn't deserve this team If anything, the Marlins don't deserve an owner and South Florida doesn't deserve a franchise. But what are you going to do? To fill out the schedule and any semblance of objectivity on the part of the league, you got to have both. Spoken like the true Marlin fan you claim to be . You are not a fan of the Marlins come clean you have already admitted you enjoy the drama of this that is all

You are not a fan of the Marlins come clean you have already admitted you enjoy the drama of this that is all It seems like RFerry is a fan of the franchise, not the Marlins. and while he says the franchise would be best served under ideal circumstances in South Florida, it seems like he really doesn't care if they remain in South Florida or find more ideal circumstances elsewhere. If I'm wrong, then plese explain RFerry what made you a fan of the Marlins to begin with and continuing? Was it certain players, or maybe you have a fish fetish, or something else? What?
December 6, 200718 yr Spoken like the true Florida fan you are. The facts tell the story. The Marlins are unprofitable without MLB welfare and their local revenues (from their lease to pathetic broadcast rights contracts) are disappointing. There's a reason why the franchise was rumored to be contracted. You think this team demands ownership or the market a franchise? If not for the promise of profitable future, there would be no Florida team for you to root for. Thankfully that promise still exists. And when it does, the Marlins will be able to operate like the MLB team we all hope they can be.
December 6, 200718 yr don't expect any help from Selig, he got Loria the team in the first place and will help him leave if no deal on the stadium is reached.....I believe he sent Lucchino down here to help get Henry a stadium and lo and behold shortly thereafter Henry owns the Sox and Lucchino is HIS president and right hand man and then Loria gets the fish..... Selig is in on it all and don't believe any crap he says that baseball HAS to suceeed here !!!
December 6, 200718 yr My point was not in defense of Loria but the level of vitriol and venom coming from the Dolphin columnists. This has nothing to do with the Dolphins. Any sports columnist in America could have penned this article. Why? Because it's the truth. I would wager, just from reading your posts, in general, that it makes you feel good about yourself to be a contrarian. Good for you. It's never a bad thing to hear all sides of an issue. That said, some of your theories are flat out ridiculous. This may come as a surprise to you, but the South Florida media is pretty apathetic to the Marlins. Every now and then there's an egregious act by ownership that reminds all of us why this franchise is the laughingstock of sports. This was one of those acts, and the media followed suit by reminding us why the Marlins are totally irrelevant. Honestly, you don't even do that great a job of making a career out of playing the Devil's advocate. For you to be right, everybody else has to be lying or trying to sabotage Loria. I've never heard so many conspiracy theories in my life. Forbes is wrong, every columnist is out to get Loria...give me a break.
